The quality of the pop/rock coming out of the UK in the 60s was just bloody mental. Never to be repeated times.
The year my mum died. Only 39; I was 6. Hearing this reminds me of her even after 54 years.
god bless you
My dad died in 1968. He was 49.
Wonderful words. I hope the song brings you good feelings.
Love ❤
That's heartbreaking mate x
In 2002 when I was 13 I was in a Foster home in St. Austell in Cornwall, I hit it off with the foster carer as we both loved this song, she had this on vinyl, I remember in the 1990s this song was in a best of the 1960s compilation with Bobby Charlton holding the World Cup. I'm sure Verona Mayhew passed away years ago but through the turbulent times I dearly thank her for being a great foster carer.
Absolutely lovely song!!! I remember it from when I was young ❤❤❤❤❤❤
We'll never hear music as good as this again ...... it's a brilliant song.
How rich we all are to have all these great hits forever !!!
neva goes
The 1960s had countless beautiful pop songs but Jesamine by The Casuals may be the most beautiful of them all!
I agree. Stunning song 👌
I love it!
Thomas, have you heard of Chicory Tip? Oh my, they are right up there with the Tremeloes, Badfinger and Marmalade, awesome band.
@@deb9622 Oh yes Chicory Tip is a marvellous band. I have their complete output on a 2 CD collection. Marianne and Take Your Time Caroline are my two favourite CT songs. Son of my Father reached number one in Britain and is one of the first "synth pop" songs. Good Grief Christina is a banger!
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 I love Son Of My Father, Funny How Love Can Be and What's Your Name. Funny How Love Can Be is such a beautiful song.
The 60s, such a great decade to spend your teens in. Great music, so many great groups, and fashions, never to be again.
Keith it was a complete utter pleasure being part of the 60s era ,, we had to look beautiful at all times ,, being noticed on the dance floor was our aim ,,,,,,you can look but dont touch ,, the music was to die for jane x
Keith i agree with your comment , What a great time we had in every aspect , im so happy to have been their xxxx long live the 60s era Jane x🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Amen to that. Lived every minute. ❤
Always brings back memories of being a child in this era
This was and is such a beautiful song. John Tebb has a lovely voice and is a good looking man. Still listening to this in 2021, as I see others are. I forgot to say that it is in my record collection!
John died in 2018 at the age of 72. He may be gone but this beautiful song will ensure John is never forgotten
@@skygazer6898 OMG!! I did not know John had passed and am so sorry to learn this. Thank you for your comment and as you say this beautiful song ensures he will be remembered.
He looks a bit like one of the Walker Brothers.
Written by Mari wild who also wrote" Cambodia" for his daughter !!!
To think i was only 2 years old when this song came out!! A great timeless tune from the 60s.
Apparently, this is one of Paul Weller's all-time favourite songs. It still sounds as good now as it did all those years ago.
He named his daughter after this song
Yeah, but that applies to all great songs, and this is one of them,
I loved this song, the minute I heard it.Back in 68, and i'm 65 and still listening to it.Mind you, it beats most of the crap on the radio these days.
My childhood years blessed with beautiful songs❤
uk made. thanks fo passin
Absolutely LOVE this song. The minute it comes on the radio, the sound is ramped right up and I sing like a wee lintie. Magic. So many memories x
Know the feeling, such happy times they were.
I was 13 when this song came out and it reminds me of this girl I was in love with. I will never forget this girl even though our relationship was very innocent! She went on summer vacation to Italy with her parents and died in a car accident on the way back.
A wee lintie? Is that a bird found in Scotland?
@@martinlee5604 It's Scots for a Linnet, which is native to the UK.
@@nancydurham5859 Thank you. I had a feeling it might be!
1967 the year before i left school, how the world has changed, & sadly not all for the better.
Certainly makes you think of the past and how things were so much more simple.
@ A Gobiner : Spot on 100%. We were the lucky ones who lived back then in a simpler way of life . Those memories can never be erased .
love the posh British accent... i always wanted to sing like that
What a btilliant song im 60 and this is one of my all time favourites takes me back to my child hood this is what good music sounds like kids todayd youth dont know what they missed glad to be a baby boomer
Your the same age as me and yes it takes me back to a wonderful era in time and certainly music
My dad was born in 1946 and this was my most listened to tune in the family car that I can remember whilst being a kid and growing up. I googled it again last year and i’m hooked on it now. Fantastic song
Gorgeous words and sounds. Takes me back to a great time not to ever forgot.
Wooow .. hadnt heard this song for almost 50 years .. suddenly im back to my early teenage years.. memories.. 😪
I'm there too, where did time go.
My dad adored this song, lost him january just gone. Got the lyrics “butterfly child so free and so wild” tattooed on my shoulder as a tribute xx
Great piece of pop. Brings back good old memories.
Such a beautiful song, for a beautiful decade of beautiful songs., Wouldn't mind popping back,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and maybe staying there as long as I can.
I was at City School, Lincoln with John. Seated together with Geoff Sams (who has recently passed away). Around 1961 when we were all 15/16 we went to John's house one afternoon (across from school sports field), John lifted piano lid & played Nut Rocker very professionally. Geoff & I were mesmerised to say the least. It was around the time John bought a Fender Stratocaster which was £155 from his earnings around local pubs at weekends with fellow Casuals Howard Newcombe & Don Fortune (original drummer). Almost lost touch after we left school but then re-connected when I started apprenticeship at Ruston Bucyrus with Howard & Don. Howard's dad was also there & he was their roadie, running them round the pubs in his Transit van. After school John worked in Telephone Managers Office in Lincoln until going professional. Last time I saw John in person was when he got me ticket for a pop concert at Nottingham in 1963. John was one of the most unassuming & laid back people I have ever met. RIP John.
Thank you for sharing that!
one of my favorite songs of all time....brilliant!
Lots of great records in the 60's - but this is my all time favourite. Never tire of hearing this song.....so uplifting and uncomplicated. So glad to have been around at the time - a decade like no other.
Steve , i like your comment , i feel the same , this classic will still be played in eternity lol Jane xx
this song was bugging me for ages. i remembered the chorus from childhood and stumbled across it from one of those 60's compilations. i absolutely love it. what a great voice
So true and simply a beautiful song ; sixties and seventies were the best.
Vocally, The Casuals was a vehicle for John Tebbs stellar pipes but unlike say Honeybus and The Bee Gees they weren't exactly a Harmony Pop band. Some members offered additional vocals on some of their tracks but mostly it was Tebb surrounded by strings, oboes, harpsichords and other Baroque Pop laden instruments. Jesamine is one of THE finest songs of the entire 60s. Written by Manston and Gellar( Marty Wilde and Ronnie Scott) it reached no.2 in the UK in late 1968, held off from pole position by Mary Hopkins Those Were The Days.
Saw these when I was still a child, at a FAB 208 show at Empire Pool Wembley. Beautiful.
Beautiful song. Play it often still.
Simply a brilliant song 💗
These lovely well spoken guys were the tops , This divine love song , brings out the very best harmonies ,,,, long live the 60s era , it was a pleasure living and loving in a beautiful time lol Jane xx🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
Beautiful love song. What a talent Marty Wilde had and a great performance by the Casuals. Love the simplicity of this presentation and the sincerity of the words and the singing. Great 60's fashion and hairstyles too!
What a great reminder of that year in the late 60's.
Criminally underrated, The Casuals late 60s song catalogue is filled with Baroque Pop gems. A complete recordings CD box set is waaay overdue. Cherry Red is Records is just the right Reissue label to get that project in motion!
Thomas i like your comment , you sound in the know , i adored the 60s era , what a diverse choice of music we had ,, it was a great pleasure belonging to a time of musical charms xx jane xx This Casuals song was a delightful hit xx
@@oughtonoughton2634 Thanks for your kind words. I was born in 1980, so for obvious reasons I wasn't around to witness the great 60s and 70s music first hand! I'm a serious student of classic Pop music between 1964 and 1976 and my favourite genres are Sunshine Pop, Popsike and Harmony Pop in general. I'm also into 70s singer songwriters like Peter Skellern, Emitt Rhodes and my all time favourite artist, the wonderful Gilbert OSullivan! My father introduced me to the superb music when I was 12 years old in 1992 and started collecting CDs in the mid 90s. I've got a vast and varied collection including 15 000 CDs. I drive my family insane with the amount of CDs in our house but what can I say? I'm a dedicated CD collector! I really hope The Casuals get a reappraisal and a most deserved CD box set including all their recordings issued between 1967 and 1973. I'm Norwegian and there's only one CD store left here in Oslo and that's a crying shame. Thank God for Amazon and the Internet! I'm able to find everything I could ever want there.
One of, if not my favourite song ever.
mine too , i still adore these stunning posh blokes whos classic still gives me chills lol xx
Def one of my all time fave , this one is the classic best
I have many favourites from that era but this is right at the top x
I was quite captivated by this song at the age of 13.
Was just starting work 1968 when this song came out still love it
We Can Never Bring Back The Good Music, Cars, Guitars, (ETC) But We Must Keep The Great Memories Alive For The Future Generations To Look Back On And See What They Are Missing. Keep On Rockin In America And Beyond.
A beautiful song with fine lyrics. What more can be said except that the bright child returns to the elderly adult.
What a great song.
One of my favourites songs from the 1960s
If you were born in the 50's, and this song doesn't bring a tear to your eyes (yes, even men), then might I ask 'What does?'
Indeed ! I was only 10 when this was in the charts, But there were so many great songs from that decade, Its impossible to pick out any bad ones,
Good god this brings back happy memories of the 1960s
The first single I ever bought. Still love it all these years later.
Excellent!
Would have LOVED to hear The Bee Gees cover this in the late 60s with their trademark three part harmonies. They were too busy composing their own masterpieces, I reckon! Just a beautiful song by the highly underrated The Casuals.
great song, exemplifies the mid to late 60's Brit sound. Some Fab Four & Bee Gees tucked in there. Great bass line by the way.
A pity about the crap video though!
Thank you copilunio for posting this. Thanks also to the Casuals, to John Tebb and to all the lovely contributors below for their comments.
you cannot get much better than this its great from the best music era
2021 & this is on my playlist a timeless classic
First recorded and released by Welsh combo The Bystanders in early 1968. It was a flop so The Casuals picked it up and released THEIR version in late 1968 to massive success. A UK no.2 hit, stalling behind Mary Hopkins Those Were The Days.
Jaman aku blm sekolah tp aku sering mendengar lagu ini pd thn 69,70-72, setlh dewasa lulus SMA thn '83 aku kangen lagu ini, kudptkan kasetnya dan sealbum dg lagu milik grup Marmalade( Reflections of My life), lagu dlm kaset tsb semuanya enak, nikmat utk didengar, diresapi, ini bkn penilaian subyektif tp obyektif, warna musik pop yg indah dan sangat indah pd jamannya bahkan lagu ini msh sangat enak didengar walau jaman sdh berganti dg hiruk pikuk musik Trash metal, salam kangen.
Mantabs dech 👍
Aaaah - the memories. Last dance of the evening at our local sessions with the boy of our dreams.
1968 .. I am still in elementary school (in fiveth level) ... I remembered that my all relatives is very fave this song
"A butterfly child so free and so wild and so full of living"
This song one of my all time favourites
Robert i agree with your comment , This adorable looms large in my top ten singles of the 60s era , what a diverse choice of music we had .Those were the days xx
This song is a classic. It may not be today,But in time, it will be a monster of a classic.
when I was in junior high school, this song had become oldies, but I felt new at that time, I knew this song in 80', and I really love this. now my daughter with the same name is 19 y.o.
I was 11yrs old back than great song always will be great memory's
❤️ this song, cause was popular when I born 1968
I was born the year this song came out but this song 🎶 is one of my favourites. Gets a lot of air play on Gold Radio station ❤️ beautiful track.
Unforgotten: John, "Her Majesty`s Bloody Old Tabasco Bastard"... Great times... also in Germany (Sinsheim) and in Munich 1982 (Palais Lenbach - and in my living room, with the guys from the band "Rock`N` Roll Circus") Big crowds of music, laughter, beer and... tabasco... Oh Mr. Tebb, rest in peace!
Was in the UK charts in September 1968 when my good lady and I first became an item.
Only kept off the No 1 spot by Hey Jude if I remember correctly
You can see the guy on the second step is the drummer, he just can't help himself ;) x
❤ this brings up memories of fishing with a stick and line as a 5/6 year old and the smell of rice harvest and orange blossoms..somnolent summers by the river and the smell of the classroom in grade one. Happy memories of my childhood days ❤❤❤❤

I was ten in 1968 and this song takes me right back!
I had this 45 when I was a child. Loved it. Still think about it from time to time! Thank you
AHHH... How beautiful this song is. I was too small to remember it from when it first came out, but came to know and love it from a various artist CD comp back in the late 1990s. Always brings a tear or two and a lump in the ol' throat for me now - but in a "good way", of course :-) ~
2024 NZ. Last concert 2005 SOAD, yet loved this forever. I was 3 when it come out!
A lovely song with great words I remember it well because one of my ex-girlfriend's her name was Jesamine
Brilliant brings back at lot memories great record
I wonder if the great Marty Wilde realised at the time of writing just what a great classic his song was to become
Beautiful song that’s stayed the test of time, still listening in 2020
Paul Wellers fave song...a song that fitted the time....
Marty Wilde DID NOT WRITE THIS
@@johnkennedy5876 oh yes he did he co wrote it with Ronnie Scott, google it friend but whatever it’s still a great song
@@kenhatchett7645 You are correct my friend, I stand to be corrected, it seems he was using a pseudonym of Frere Manston "STRANGE NAME", It is indeed a great song and Toys was pretty good as well
I like it a lot, takes me back to a good time of life
I Love this song..
This song released 1967 (my father era)
This is the first 45 I bought X so many memories of youth club and my teenage years X
Ultimate hippy song
i love this song ive played it hundreds of times first time ive seen this video version
Qué tiempos aquellos!
Gracias por compartir esta música.
.
Beautiful, takes me back to the day's of radio when people listened and sang, whistled along to these songs to pass the day at home and at work.
Una joyita de los 60', gracias por compartirla!!
My first love played this to me in the summer of '76... so beautiful.. so uncomplicated.
Beautifully produced, too .
Thats Love's trouble, winning the losing, but so good you had that moment in time.
Brilliant tune this one of the best from the 60s
BTW, searching for the American Casuals brought me here. I wasn't disappointed then. Very "hooky" and I wish a single had been released over here.
Seen the casuals live at the sands club Whitley bay Newcastle upon Tyne in the 70s what a band ❤
Best song in the world ever. Beautiful
A favorite of mine for over 50yrs
saw them live at mr georges coventry sang this great
I named my daughter Jesamine after this song.
Originally recorded by The Bystanders in early 1968. It didn't chart. The Casuals recorded their version shortly after and produced a smoother version which gave them a UK Top 2 hit and its a magnificent song and a superb version!
A great song.
Clint i agree with you , its so romantic in a sad way ,, weve all been their alas xx
great memories, this was when music was tops unlike todays rubbish, will always listen to this type of song, lits great to be a 60s kid now 69
The year I got married a great song and a sound typical of the 60s. The volume always goes up when we hear this!
I remember this song because it was difficult to dance to.
It's a "snogger"...(or smoocher) - ie one to dance to, holding on & kissing.
❤ love this , I was about 15 in Windsor Girls School Hamm
If you replace the name Jesamine with the name of your love, this song captures EXACTLY how it is!!
The most significant line for me after nearly 30 years with my "Jesamine"???
Beautiful days, lost in her eyes, and then the whole world dies!!
Her eyes are the same now as the day we met, and I still get lost in them!!
The lyrics alone are amazing from an era sadly are gone but immortalized in time
Robert i really like your comment i agree with you on all counts lol Janex 🌹
This song takes me back years to times when life was so much better .
