The Making of Silk Carpets in Turkey - starting with the silkworm cocoons into threads

On a tour “In the footsteps of Paul the Apostle”, we went by cruise ship from Athens, Greece to Ephesus in Turkey. From Ephesus we traveled by bus to the Turkish countryside to see a demonstration of how Turkish carpets were handmade at Anaudala in Izmir, Turkey. We were shown how the silk weavers begin by making silk thread from the silkworm cocoons and were shown how the carpets were woven. Our guide told us that “traditionally and historically, we Turks are known as fine quality carpet makers.”
