Best line in the whole damn movie, when the senior Huron says, "Sarihokton'!" (Your affairs are ended/cut, or equally "shut up") Rest in peace Mike Phillips, you were a good man.
The best lines I agree 100%. All the lines spoken by the indians in their indian language are great. So deep, powerful and wisdom in their words when they speak.
Duncan showed tremendous courage and bravery. He made up ten fold for his misgivings at the fort. I felt a bitter loss when he sacrificed himself for them. He was wrong but he didn't deserve to give his life.
Wes Studi is a great guy off camera. very active in the indian community, for the preservation of native languages. that is so cool you got to meet like you did!
Mike was a Mohawk, Im a Mohawk and we come from the same place. He was speaking in Mohawk in a couple of places, although the character is said to be Huron. It is said that while Huron was still spoken that it was very similiar to Mohawk.
@ bijomik,...I agree Uncas' character in the book is much more fleshed out then in the film. All in all, the movie adheres to the book better than most I've seen. The idea of Alice becoming completely unwound and jumping off the cliff is plausible. After all, she was from an enterily different culture, she was very young and had led a sheltered life. If Cora had been forced to run the gauntlet she would have survived! She was warrioress material! :-)
@dionysos46 : "French's voice", one expression for two things speeched in one: Human Rights, discussed in an eloquent french speech ... Dominique de Villepin speech in UN parliament Vs W. Irakian War is an another good exemple... Have a nice day... ;-)
I've always thought it was in heavily accented English showing that the old one could understand English too. I've always heard it as "That is what I thought" in reply to what Hawkeye was saying.
Duncan was a good soldier in the original novel written by Cooper. This film was very different from the novel. Not just Duncan. In the novel, Cora loved Uncas, not Hawkeye. Also Duncas loved Alice, not Cora.
This scene is so well done. The Huron (and the 5 nations) valued rhetorical ability very highly, so walking into the cap and making his case was the perfect solution on Hawkeye's part. And the decision to take Duncan instead of Cora was totally believable. Unfortunately, Duncan didn't realize that stoicism in the face of torture was what the Huron were looking for. Who among us is really prepared to be burned alive though1
Sleepy Hollow is movie with humor. Johnny Depp is great in it :-D Native language sounds nice! The Last of the Mohicans is one hell of a movie. I always have to cry watcing it... ;)
The elder was giving Alice to Magua to replace his wife that had died as the result of Alice's fathers actions (in Magua's mind anyway). Thus, the debt repaid, and the healing process begun.
the first segment of the chief's soliloquy is actually in french (which duncan knows but Hawkeye doesn't). The second part is in the language of the Huron: and therefore neither hawkeye or duncan understand.....
There were no Huron at the time of the French and Indian War. The Iroquois had defeated and displaced the Huron in the 1680's. They were forced to leave their Canadian homeland around Georgian Bay and relocated to Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, where they were renamed the Wyandot.
Huron tribe is actually many tribes..Magua was not from that tribe..also he said he was going to another Huron village at the lake..so the Hurons had many villages..this was just one of them..They also probably had different accents..like almost all Native American Tribes has...the variety in this people are far more then any European land..only the far east Asia can compare..
Well you can't expect Hollywood to put a native as a hero and pewpew a white girl? I'm just glad marky mark and the funky bunch ain't starring in this. The final chapter and the soundtrack sure brings tears to my eyes anyway
Yes. It seems entirely logical that he knew the Huron language but still needed a french translator to speak to the chief. Also, it is tough to explain in the movie (beyond this clip) why Hawkeye is completely perplexed as to what the Chief said when he exchanges Cora for Duncan.
Dude, Magua was adopted by the an Iroquois nation, so he learned Iroquois. But since French was the lingua franca, he is speaking french to the Huron, who speak an Algonquin language.
Magua is speaking' French with Native American Indian accent, all the Indians are..while Long Rifle is a Mohican and they speak only English and Mohican.. But that old Huron Chief changes his language and suddenly speak only Huron...U can hear the difference?
the french were not smarter, they had short term goals. fur trade is a short term goal. Britain built and annexed colonies. But many of the Europeans colonies existed with treaties, this is well known with the French, where the Huron formally invited them to settle with them.
What a wise chief. They do not make leaders like this anymore, lol ;p :)) !!! With leaders like this, there would be a lot less wars going on around the world ;p :)) !!!
@purple1123 some people just cant be reasoned with so its not a matter of stupidity its a matter of setting limits to those who think they have none sure people always throw in people are intelligent enough as thinking creatures to know that violence is a quality that animals use because they dont have the thought process to do otherwise so when people do that it shows we are no better than animals well in that case we dont need sex since were already cutting of one instinct why not all
Magua is a badass mutha shut your mouth, I delivered him dry cleaning working at a holiday inn in gallup, nm. He is really short, I was disappointed to see a villain from last of the mohicans and dances with wolves to be so small hehe lol
Best line in the whole damn movie, when the senior Huron says, "Sarihokton'!"
(Your affairs are ended/cut, or equally "shut up")
Rest in peace Mike Phillips, you were a good man.
If only someone HAD made this speech back then.
The best lines I agree 100%. All the lines spoken by the indians in their indian language are great.
So deep, powerful and wisdom in their words when they speak.
@audiolabguy i loved the village elder so much wisdom and judgement wish we had them around and get these kids put in there place.
Magua survived, recovered, moved out west and went after settlers and of course Kevin Costner.. died in a creek.
Very riveting and compelling scenes from this film.
My complement sir,.. finally a true gentlement
duncan's sacrifice is beyond comments...i wish such characters weren't roles played by actors
thank you for the video
@Rigald33 I was always curious who's huron/french accent shined the best. Thanks for the info. I'm just glad Daniel Day didn't try to speak it.
"...infected with the sickness of greed". Tell'm Nathaniel!!!

"My compliments sir, take her and get out"
@eff901 Its the Mohawk language equivalent of "Your affairs are ended/done" or simply....."shut up".
long silent stare from the chieftain. then: sasischua tha rofl, this scene is solid as gold.
It is up to the real head of a people to make the best decisions.
@captainunload : It's famous french theatre actor and director: Patrice Chéreau. La voix de la France! ;-)
how do I find the sence where magua speaks to the french officer about his hatred of the grayhair?
I feel so at home.
i also saw him in some famous indian movie,(bad guy ofcourse) it was wonderful to see him
Major Heyward might have been arrogant and concieted at times , but he was in the end, an officer and a gallant gentleman

wait what were they going to do with alice at the cliff?

@dionysos46
Cool. La voix de la France? Whats that mean?
Sums us english up in this one scene ....Respect

what a badass scene
@firstjedi its b/c they are speaking french not huron
3:08 goosebumps
The elder was giving Alice to Magua to replace his wife that had died as the result of Alice's fathers actions (in Magua's mind anyway). Thus, the debt repaid, and the healing process begun.
@cjwright79
He's a great character, but many were great. I think the French Commander played a small, but excellent role.
the first segment of the chief's soliloquy is actually in french (which duncan knows but Hawkeye doesn't). The second part is in the language of the Huron: and therefore neither hawkeye or duncan understand.....
RIP to the Mohican father (his name in the movie is escaping me at the moment)...

number 1 native american movie along side dances with wolves!
@ch3rryl3m0nn
" je crache sur vous " :)
You can almost make out the french.
@AndrewIda Very true, Greed is one of the greatest driving forces of evil in this world.
Greed is what kept slavery alive for so many centuries.
Why did he agree to trade the girl for the British officer? What did Nathanial say exactly?🤔
I actually like the accent..the French language sounds more cool with an Indian touch..
Valaki igazán feltehetné ezt a filmet magyar szinkron változatban teljes változatban!
Huron tribe is actually many tribes..Magua was not from that tribe..also he said he was going to another Huron village at the lake..so the Hurons had many villages..this was just one of them..They also probably had different accents..like almost all Native American Tribes has...the variety in this people are far more then any European land..only the far east Asia can compare..

daaaaaaamn, english dude chose to burn to death for them...such....honor...
cool my name is Sashem after Sachem, my parents changed the spelling just so everyone can pronounce it.
the french were not smarter, they had short term goals. fur trade is a short term goal. Britain built and annexed colonies. But many of the Europeans colonies existed with treaties, this is well known with the French, where the Huron formally invited them to settle with them.
is my boss the old man wise
1:06 translation - "yo, shut the fuck up...just shut the fuck up"
What a wise chief. They do not make leaders like this anymore, lol ;p :)) !!! With leaders like this, there would be a lot less wars going on around the world ;p :)) !!!

They are speaking Iroquois... Mohawk and Huron are tribes, not languages... The Huron, which is the tribe Magua belongs to spoke Iroquois...
@purple1123 if women are equal then i should be able to get in a fist fight with one just like i do guys thats equality isnt it
@CheckLike ok, so instead of feeling superior, teach us white people
wow i love red indian
not black indian
he's not speaking huron, he is speaking french. a terrible accent, tough
Er you know that Britain won this war right?
This scene gives so much weight to the movie. White men almost completly destroyed the indians from their home.
Really unfortunate that they couldn't have a Indian hero for this.... instead of another white saviour
Easy Grin well the book was written in the 1800s, dont think cultural sensetivity was high on their priorities
In the old book, Uncas was one of the main character, and a hero. He became silent in the movie.
after watching this film many times, heyward misunderstood full of duty , was a true hero.
