one of the most incredible things about this performance was it was only a year after they released their first album and they were already headlining the biggest festival in the world, with the crowd singing one of their songs back to them, their rise to fame was rapid
Their rise was so natural. Not contrived as it is so often. Truly “indie” a small record label, utilising the internet to spread their music. Immortalised in Who the f*** are Arctic Monkeys “But we’ll stick to our guns, Don’t care if it’s marketing suicide, Wont crack or compromise”
Arctic Monkeys instant rise to becoming the biggest band in the UK essentially overnight was so Oasis-esque like with how they did the same back in '94
@@richierudolf3410 I think they meant “the biggest” as in one the most iconic music festivals in the world, which it is. It solidified itself in the festival scene in 1970. But I will say that there’s a lot of other great festivals in the world, especially in Europe!🙌🏿😂
Arctic Monkeys are iconic to a certain generation of people in the UK. If you are around the same age as them, it feels like we have grown up together. Remember thinking that they can't get any better and then they released Brianstorm. 2007 was a great year!
@@bentownsend4017 the difference is you didn't grow up in a time when they were releasing music like this. I love the beatles but can't understand what it was like to be there at the time and the love that generation feel for them. Anyone can love them but when you're there during it, it's just different. As a 31yr old, who was there, I can tell you it isn't the same as listening to the album like 15yrs after it's release.
so Glastonbury is like, the biggest festival in the UK! the triangular headlining stage is pretty iconic, and to headline is pretty huge, so for AM to do it at this age with only two albums out was big at the time
I'm sooooooo glad you reacted to this. Arctic Monkeys are such a cool band. I love that there from near the same area as Louis and Yungblud. You can hear the influences in their music today. They are British musical icons.
My local band being from the same village so I was lucky enough to see them before they had even released a single and playing in small standing only venues of 500 to 1,000 capacity which were absolutely mental.
I think this was shortly after they released their first album as an unknown band and they're headlining glastonbury which is like the biggest festival in the uk
I would DEFINITELY recommend reacting to their TRNSMT performance. Specifically when they performed From the Ritz to the Rubble and The View From the Afternoon!
I was there and I was also a 14 year old lad growing up in Yorkshire when their first album came out. Went bananas when they played ritz to the rubble. Amazing Glasgow crowd too
I was in this crowd. It was absolutely EPIC. My one and only Glasto and, hands down, (including Thursday arrival pre-gigs) the BEST four consecutive days of my life. And that includes my honeymoon. The flags help find your mates in the crowd.
I absolutely love Arctic monkeys. Saw them live once and they were great love all her albums especially the earlier ones through AM which I think is the best. Try listening to a certain Romance, teddy picker, 505, RU Mine, do I wanna know, Arabella, Mardy, bum, fluorescent, adolescent, and many more.
Watch them in 2009... no energy. You start to feel as if they are losing a grip on things. Until you realise that they are about to embark on a new journey. Absolutely fascinating band and one of the greatest British bands of all time. 6 incredible albums!
Galstonbury is a massive festival held most years on Worthy farm, a real dairy farm, in south west england. The flag thing is a bit of a glastonbury tradition but it's also practical - you've come with your mates to a massive festival with 20+ stages, campgrounds, shops, a circus etc, and it helps to say to your friends, i'll be by the Pyramid stage, look for the Japan flag/Alien on a stick /Massive undies on a pole, etc. Then they can work out where you are in the massive crowd. With 200,000 people showing up in rural Somerset, mobile reception can be patchy at times (well, it might be better now) but, that at least used to be a part of the reason for them was that you can't always just text/call and say "where are you".
You should watch their live version of View From The Afternoon from years back, if you search for the drums of it on youtube you'll see them play the song live with just the cameras on the drummer. It's really cool.
Glastonbury (or Glasto) is as big as you can get in the uk. It's the size of a small city!!! I'm in my mid 30's now and arctics have continually described the periods in my life with their albums have grown up. In my opinion the same or bigger than oasis
Glastonbury the most famous music festival on the planet mate everyone wants to get agig their nearly 200 thousand every year attend great reaction pal
Top 5 bands of all time Top 5 drummer of all time Top 5 album of all time Best lead singer of all time, the way he plays while he sings is incredible, I grew up listening to Arctic Monkeys, there debut album will always be a classic🙏
The flags are so you can find your group. There is like 80 thousand people (used to be a lot more when you could jump the fence) and it’s super hard to find your group if you get parted.
I'll be honest, slightly surprised you haven't heard of Glasto. Glasto is the mother of all music festivals (Reading Fest being the Daddy, imho). But when you can get a crowd to not only sing along to the lyrics but sing along to the guitar parts you know you're onto a winner. Arctic Monkeys are a great band, going a bit left field with a few songs but looking forward to their next album.
Alex Turner couldn't have been more than 20 or 21 when they headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. Monkeys were on their second album and were the biggest UK band since Oasis, if not The Beatles. What's cool about these guys is that they just love playing in front of a crowd of people, regardless the size. Glastonbury is like 250 K, and I saw them in a club in Fort Lauderdale, FL in front of only 3,000. They booked the venue at the last minute when the festival they were supposed to play was cancelled due to low ticket sales, and they ripped it up just as much as this. Met the drummer, Matt Helders, while I was on line to get in. Small club, so the band's tour bus was right next to the venue. Said hello as he came off the bus. Incredibly nice guy, with an accent so thick, I think I understood every third or fourth word.
I'll never forget Beyoncé's post Glasto interview. She could not believe what had just happened to her. Glasto is so special that American headliners are overwhelmed.
their is no such thing as a bad artic monkeys song. there is just ones you prefer. they are in a way like the gorillaz, they do a lot of experimental style music, and its hard to put into a pidgen hole.
Hi can you please react to scared to be lonely the acoustic version by dua lipa and martin garrix . Or can you please react to be the one by dua lipa live by the critics choice🥰
You use the flags to show your friends where you are because you will get lost at Glasto, or Reading or Leeds or any UK festival. And we all know the songs. Jay Z and Beyonce & Dolly Parton came here. Did we know their songs. Of course we effing did.

Oasis did the same thing. They did Glastonbury back-to-back

They're iconic everywhere, including Mexico, best concert ever.
They were only around 20 years old at this gig.
Unbelievable stagecraft for that age.

Not just the UK, biggest festival in the world, baffles me how americans have never heard of it, every artist dreams of headlining in the pyramid
Lol, I gather you've never been to the Danube Island Festival in Austria.
TRNSMT 2018, insane crowd for them
They were barely 20 here...
insane to think that they've headlined glastonbury barely a year after they released their debut album
You HAVE to watch Pretty Visitors live if you wanna see more of the drummer
