Great review man. The comparison to Ledaig makes me very intrigued. Last virgin oak peated whisky I had was the Octomore 13.4 Virgin oak. Interesting and good whisky, but not my preferred Octomore profile. Cheers buddy 🥃
I feel like Octomore profiles are all over the place these days. I remember the 5.1 and The Dialogos 10YO the most. They were both these really fizzy, Jalapeño styled whiskies. But yes, if you can lay hands on this for RRP, 100% worth your time.
I do get some off notes with the Chinkapins I tried, including the single cask from Glenallachie but I think due to the peat any off note was gone and I quite enjoyed this one. Cheers Phil!
All 4 hit my local market in the states. Of course I tried the turbo first. I'll have to ask my therapist if I need all of them... $10-20 less than the Laph10 sherry. I guess I'll find the space and the $$$. There was a 4 year old peated GlenAllachie that I passed on, at double the price, so all is good. Since I am not finding many nice new bourbon matured unpeated options lately, I've been all about the peat. And it's simply amazing how I smell and taste right past it. The sweet notes and the cask influence just blend in and surpass the peat. KK HP, Ardnamurchin and even Uigeadail are what I'm alternatively drinking. I wouldn't be so excited to buy a 5 year old unpeated anything.
Incredible, aren't they! I ignored them at first, and I've no idea why. Flippers and collectors taking all the stock for themselves. But having tasted, loved, and now owning them, truly delicious.
Sounds unreal bud. Cheers.
Can't wait for you guys to get your hands on them.
Chinquapin in the Beech Family, Genus Chestnut (I think) -- thanks for the review -- I've ordered the sherry and this one as well.
You are correct! They're both so good. I'm just in awe.
Great review - thanks. On a side note, really recommend the new Glasgow manzanilla cask. It is incredible.
I've had my eye on those three releases. I'm in Glasgow in May, hoping to try it then.
That sounds great, I hope to see them in USA I day, I appreciate every single review of yours.thank you
Thank you! That means so much. They should be in the US very soon.
Sounds delicious, Phil. Thanks for the informative review.
Anytime!

The peat did balance out a lot of the acetone/glue notes you can get from virgin oak at times. The peat just added a new level to this.
