  • This is a 10 hour of pellet usage check for the drip tray (ease of removal/cleaning) and how much ash remains in the base of the cabin.

Thank you Matt for the videos on the Apex. Per the discussions in the FB group, I was curious if it would be an easier process to be "MATT Clean" lol. Personally speaking, I'd like to see the drip tray as stainless steel than paint (powder) coated.

how satisfied with the amount of smoke are you? How does the smoke get from the burn pot up to the chamber? just around the sides of the drip tray? or are there holes in it someplace?

Hey Matt, have/do you know of the best way to convert mx Apex 36" from propane to natural gas? I've seen ways to do other Camp Chef grills, but nothing on the Apex. I've even called Camp Chef. Looked on their website. They were no help.

Can you tell us more about the heat distribution during smoking. Seems like it would run hot in the middle with the thin metal drip tray as the only diffuser.

The drip tray is actually a good bit thicker than previous CC drip trays. Additionally the heat deflector is welded to the bottom of the drip tray making it even heavier. I did the “biscuit test” with it the other day. Had biscuits all over the grates and every single one was cooked exactly the same. Usually my experience has been pellet grills run warmer on the edges and on the hopper side but I didn’t come to that conclusion with the APEX. Totally even cooking.

Are you planning a full review, new grill on the market and might be what I am looking for.

I would love to see a full review also! This seems like the best idea ever, to combine a grill and a smoker! but there are hardly any reviews out there.

But how hard is it to get a shop vac in there to clean, with the burner bars and ignitors in place?
Can a shop vac hose fit in through the drip tray access?

You will have to remove the burner bars. There is 4.5” of space in between each burner after the bars are removed so a shop vac hose will fit in with no issue. Even better if you have a smaller shop vac but a large one will still accomplish the task. You won’t be able to vac from drip tray access as the visibility is poor and the opening is tapered quite a bit.

Do they have an easy way to keep the burn pot cleaned out between cooks? Do you know if they are using a ceramic igniting rod?

Camp Chef has a lever you pull that empties the fire pot of ashes. I believe they still have the metal hot rod.

I think you should have commented on what pellets you used for the 10 hours of cook time. Yes, it looks good but that is not all on the grill itself. Probably more importantly is your pellet selection.
As far as the shop vac comment, either get a narrow crevice cleaning attach or purchase a Home Depot Bucket Head vacuum and with the smaller hose, it would be a simple process to get in between and clean!

Pellets were Camp Chef Charwood Cherry. A normal sized shop vac will get in to clean with no issues. 4.5” of space between each burner tube so definitely good to go. Also thanks for your comment!

@@mattcartier5384 no doubt on a normal shop vac fitting. Just was giving an option should someone feel that the cleaning may be an, issue with a normal shop vac and not be deterred from purchasing this grill
