- “This is a difficult video to write about and the first time I’m speaking publicly about it, but her it goes- I spent most of 2023 on the injured list, but was working on a Cult part with Grant C between injuries. Finally getting to a somewhat healthy place in November, I started really shifting gears with filming and gettin some tricks I was psyched on… unfortunately that all ended in a horrific slam on November 25th where I sustained a burst fracture in my spine causing temporary paralyses and the need for emergency surgery.
Some VERY dark times followed between a multiple night stay in the ICU and having to navigate home life with a walker, catheter, excruciating pain and a newborn baby. So many people deserve praise for their help during this time, but there’s no way I could’ve gotten through this without my wife. She became a 24/7 caretaker for our infant daughter and myself… how much she stepped up during this time cannot be overstated.
This project is a combination of a video part filmed prior to the crash, and a short documentary on my injury and life for the 4 months following. On a much more positive note, I’m 5 months post injury and have made a pretty miraculous recovery thus far. I’m blessed to say getting back to riding isn’t too far off in the future and I’m working hard every single day to make it happen. Thanks to all who support me and like what I do, it means SO much. Wallrides soon “🖤 -Dakota Roche
Thank you @cultcrew, @veeshermang (editing and documentary), @grantcbmx (riding footage) and @calvinkosovich (additional filming) for making this project possible.
Dak always inspiring, even in the most adverse of situations. ❤
Incredibly inspiring stuff Dak, Veesh, Grant, and everyone involved. This is heavy, but it’s really important to see what a pro rider at this level goes thru to make these kind of parts. Thank you Dak, and wishing you a speedy recovery on the rest of your journey. ❤
DAK has been and will always be my favorite rider/person. Glad he’s overcoming this challenge
So grateful that you've still got the use of your legs, Dak. You're an inspiration to the BMX community and beyond. Heal strong brother 💪
Dakota Roche the man, the myth, the legend... and of course the epic mustache. \m/
TROOPER! This man’s catalog of insane video parts is truly unparalleled, went IN more than I can even imagine for some of the most iconic and heaviest moves on a BMX… EVER! Dak you are so frickin inspirational! Wish ya nothing but the best! (the fact that you have kept all this to yourself and your closest all this time speaks volumes about your strength and integrity as a human being!) Salute!
The video clip of rudimental comes to mind when i watch this...
Im greatful to see your recovery brother ...
I had a fall at work.... off scaffolding... i fell 6 meters down to concrete ..(just shy of 20 ft)
It took time, but i persisted and trained to walk again and in good time was able to ride my bmx...
Im back to work again now and alot more conscious of the risks i take :)
For work ... aswell as for fun
Keep riding safe brothers
To see someone as amazing as Dak bring themselves back from something so terrifying helps put the weird injuries and ailments that are keeping me off my bike for over 6 months in perspective. Time to get better!! ❤
So inspiring!
The GOAT for sure.
While it's heartbreaking and terrifying to hear about your injury your story continues to inspire as usual. The BMX community loves you, wishing you and your family the best, stay strong on your path to recovery - you've got this!
You sharing this and being vulnerable is very important for educating everyone Dak
Praying for a full recovery

Dak is such a beast! I wish You a speedy recovery big dog👊🏻 you got this, shout out to your wife for keeping things held down, she’s a saint
Thank you for putting this out into the universe. Much respect, brother.
Amazing. Tough to see that fall and struggle, but so important. Shows us that vulnerability is strength too. And as a dad to a young kid myself, I relate to the drive to be stronger for our children. No amount of pain can keep a dedicated father from doing what he must to take care of his family. This is inspirational to say the least!
Lots of strength brother, from the best exponents of the sport, speedy recovery and good health. Is incredible.
This is a legendary video that will be handed down for life.
A brave video of a warrior who continues to play hammer tricks in the face of 40.
So happy being able to see dak recover from such an injury 🙏
Dude I am so sorry. Your strength is extremely motivating. Glad to see you doing better and soon to be riding. Stay strong. - Kai

Incredible that Dak has the strength and courage to share this with us all, not everyone would. I've only had the pleasure of meeting Dak a couple of times, definitely an inspiring individual and wish him all the best for a good recovery so he can take care of his family and hopefully back on a bmx.
Amazing... A speedy return! You're great 🔥

Grateful you can be able to walk away from that! Take a rest from bmx as long as needed, take care of you and your family. You've done more than the job already man. Well deserved rest 💪❤

Strength Only Triumphs 💪 keep pushing good sir, wishing you the best 💜
Hell yeah Dak! Ill pray for your full recovery sir
Fire video. You're a beast Dak let's keep it going. ❤
Absolutely crazy to only just find out about this, completely inspiring! So glad there doesnt seem to be any long term damage! On a positive note i had an idea for the edit once daks back to it, call it ‘Return of the Dak’ 😂
Ah bless him, so glad Dakota is ok. Had a back injury myself in 96, not through riding but immediately i couldn't move my legs. Like Dak i recovered fairly quickly, shock stops movement to prevent more injury. Dak will only get stronger. He's gotta finish his part.
Wishing you all the best Dak.. Sounds like a horific injury. Heal fast man 🔥🔥
Hell Yeah Brother! Keep on pushing!
cheers to your recovery
May you be well again (and shredding as always) soon. LEGEND.
Props to your partner… a two month old and their husband learning to walk again. QQUUEEEEEENN.

Faster recovery for you!
Dak is a legend ! this was so inspiring, Keep going DAK ❤
Gnarly it's definitely scary when you're in a situation where you don't know if you'll be able to walk again. I don't wish that feeling on anyone. Get well soon.
Got chills from this one
Glad you’re recovering Dak. One of the toughest dudes I’ve seen on a bike. We all have to walk away eventually.. I had to walk away a couple years ago. I never was sponsored or professional but after some injury/ loss of teeth, and getting a career going at the age of 30, I can’t risk those kind of injuries.. always ride, but maybe think about your next move brother. Love you and I hope you recover 100%. 💯
Hope you make a full recovery
Dak, what a legend. Get well soon 🙏🙏
Get well soon 🤟✌️ hope you and your loved ones are doing well
lets go DAK! inspiring since my youth🖤
Very inspiring
This is a wake up call; listen to your love ones
The beast is back :)
give me goosebumps, get well soon
Eres un rider increíble, volverás con todo Dakota 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Speed recovery dak 🙌🏻❤️
Seeing the athletes speak about their injuries now rehumanises them and brings things back into perspective. We put people like Dak on podiums akin to Demigods, they aint. Just like us they break and bleed. We need more of this stuff.
I remember the day you went pro for fit. Always been an idol. Even super man has his fall ..
Rise up legend
Can’t wait to see you come back
yea buddy, this has happneed to me two times. after 8 years of healing ive been riding again for about 6 months now, i couldnt walk for months, but can almost switch whip out of feebles now!!!!! keep pushing it is not the end!!!
speedy recovery to the GOAT!
The best of the best in every way.
Man I can’t imagine how you must’ve been feeling; what was running through your head having that injury with your daughter so young. Not being able to hold or play with my son is one of my biggest fears for sure. Inspiring as always.
Hell yeah DAK!!!.. everyone's on your side.. youll be back better than ever!!!.
Holy Shit Dak I had no ideal. Keep pushing brother
