Jason, I'm Yasmine. Watching you, I just want to give you a big hug as tears are running down my face. You're such a sweet soul. I'm straight, Haitian, and I grew up in a strict Baptist household in Brooklyn after coming to America at age 12. so strict that in the freezing cold of NY, I wasn't even allowed to wear pants. Crazy!! I left like religion put me in box.
Now, I'm much older and for the life of me, I just could never and will never understand the hatred towards the gay community from the church, so every night I watch a tone of videos like yours and it's as if God pours more and more love and compassion in my heart for the gay community after I listen to a coming out story. I thank God for giving me His heart.
I thank Him for my time in the military because the experience exposed me to sailors who were different from me. My brothers and sisters I'm sure you know that some Christians will never change and will unfortunately continue to use the Bible to hate others. Leave them alone. I send all of my gay brothers and sisters love.

I'm moved to tears suddenly. A beautiful but heartbreaking story because I am aware of how difficult it is especially in bigoted, racist USA. He's an incredible mixture of wonderful genes and rich cultural heritage. He enriches our species and world as he seems such a wonderful human being.

I suppose in a way you are the Lucky one ,, what a story !! my father tried to kill me, he felt I was getting away at 16 to live the life he wanted , my mother told me he was a closet gay himself and it twisted him and made him sick with anger. BUT I did get away, I lived my life good and bad, my choices with its conséquences.

It's sad when people ruin their lives through frustration and innability to accept themselves. Fortunately in most cultures today it is easier. I in no way feel sympathy for my father, he had a wonderful wife and home and three great kids and he ruined us and was an awful person .

Reform accepts homosexuals, orthodox is very strict and against it for 5000+ years. Honestly sucks that I was orthodox but can’t be anymore because I can’t change who I am. Isaac Mizrahi grew up in my community tho.

Wow. Not only Jewish, gay and black but both his brothers? That is amazing. I have not heard before of multiple children being gay in a family. With gay only being about 10% of any society regardless of acceptance, to have three children in one family is a pretty big deal. This one made me cry. Such a sweet story.

I'm a little late to the conversation but I'm also black, Jewish and gay. Your Dad was so right. It's imperative that we learn to take up our space in this world. We'll never be enough of anything to please others so the goal is to not care about what others think. What they say or how they act is much more about them than us. We were not put on this earth to please others or to make them comfortable. Keep living your most authentic life because it goes by pretty quick and there's no time to waste on hateful or ignorant people. Much love to you. ❤

what a beautiful family - it must have been hard for their mom - having grandchildren is so much part of an older womans' life. and she had 3 sons. (i have no grandchildren myself, it's not easy.)

My dear mother, who has since passed away as well, prized loving her 3 sons beyond anything else (except maybe her cats?). From what I know, she had initial thoughts about the grandchildren part--but learned that focusing on the present is where you experience true joy. (Also, there was always the possibility of adoption or surrogates or in time, even two male parents, as well as taking care of grand nieces/nephews and other children.) Lastly, the perks of 3 gay sons include knowing that you will age as gracefully as possible; and that there will be a full pit crew to take care of you should you become immobile or go into the hospital for makeup, hair, wardrobe and skin care. ;-)

You are beautiful. I’m 77; came out to my parents and two sisters 61 years ago....about 1959. The world was different. Before Stonewall. Police raids and entrapment were in vogue. Sex was rampant; pre-aids. I was religious so I hid until I was 21 I had no idea of the gay world but by 1964 I found it. Now I see a different scene developing in the gay world. As messed up my life had been, I was given many great persons. I kind of messed them up, but today I am surrounded by many who love me; no gay lover, no gay husband. I grew up in a different time and traveled a different road.
I applaud your courage, persistence, and strength. Glad we can share our stories together. Sending you much light and joy.
