When I was a kid growing up, there was an elderly couple that had a 49 Plymouth and a 50 Plymouth. The 49 was a dark green car, and belonged to the wife, and the 50 Plymouth was the husbands (in Black). They were so nice, and sometimes would give me candy and treats when they saw me. The cars were always shined, and looked great. Both were coupes. Just a neat memory......

I hope that you didn't have to drain all that oil out of that old Dodge every night during winter in Canada, but I fear that you did as I know that it gets awfully cold up there.

My parents bought a used '50 Plymouth Club Coupe in 1952. It was the first car that I ever rode in, on my way home from the hospital after I was born. My Dad was not a car guy by any means, but he always said it was the best car he ever owned, smooth running and reliable. Living in the northeast, the car eventually rusted out.

Dang, this one brings back memories; a cousin had a '50 4 door as his DD in the late '70's... had a good deal of cruising/roadtrip experience in it. Performance was, of coarse. mild, but one of the most solid, comfortable rides ever. The radio's tone control had 3 settings: "Voice", "Music", and "Mellow"... no, they sure don't make 'em like they used to.Pity.

My dad bought a 1949 "Bolivia Green" Plymouth sedan in 1958 from a college student for $100.00 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It was our first family car. He had to get rid of it four years later up in Falls Church, Va. because it was badly leaking oil. I recently sold my '49 Plymouth Special Deluxe four-door sedan. Much of the interior, dash, and under-the-hood appears to be the same. I much prefer the look of the taillights on the '49. I also owned a '49 DeSoto Custom Club Coup with the wacky Fluid Drive attempt at trying to provide an auto trans.😆 Thanks for the excellent presentation. As for the comparison, I would prefer the Ford or Chevy, but my personal favorite (at least style-wise) would be the bullet-nosed Studebaker.

I have a 1949 Plymouth Special DeLuxe 4dr. sedan. I bought it non running for$2500 dollars in 2020. A complete original car, 96k miles with a 1970's repaint. I had it running within 2 days of purchase, started immediately, no smoke, good oil pressure, runs like a watch! I'll admit she's not much in the glamour department compared with other makes, but IMO Plymouth was the better engineered one of the "big three". Short of blowing a hole in the block, you can't kill that 217 6 cylinder! That engine was used in so many things and for so long, you can still easily get parts. Chrysler president K.T. Keller was behind the conservative styling. He believed in function over form and stated that "a man should be able to wear his hat while driving" hence the higher roof line. I also have 1951 Buick roadmaster, which looks WAY cooler than my Plymouth, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for it.

The best choice in 1949 was the Plymouth Second Series Special Deluxe riding on a 118" vs. 111" wheelbase. Both Chevrolet and Ford had shorter wheelbases. From September to December 1948 the 1949 models were rebadged 1948 models. The line closed for two months.
February - June 1949 were the first all new Chrysler cars accross the board since 1942. This was true for GM and Ford as well. Cost of the top of the line Plymouth Second Series Special Deluxe 4-door sedan was $1,629.00, selling over 69,000 units. It included an inside hood release (not on the 1950 and later models, or on Chevrolets or Fords), an oil pump and oil filter as standard equipment since Plymouth was introduced in 1928 (not available on Chevrolets which all had only 6-cylinder engines until 1955, or Ford's 6-cylinder engine). It had a richer interior with more chrome and simulated wood trim on the dash and all window trim frames, it was very reliable and had a better suspension for a smoother ride, the Chevrolet was not as smooth, but better than the Ford! The Ford was plagued with many problems for 1949. This was my parents very first brand new car, which they purchased in the Spring of 1949. I was the oldest, born in August that year. My father worked at the top of a very steep hill a half mile long. The 217 CID, 97 HP L-head 6-cylinder engine, in production with regular improvements in horsepower and torque for decades, had no trouble climbing that hill even in snow and ice.

I like the Air Flow also. Odd for the time though.
Those are the seat covers I had in my 86 F-150 for many years. They went with the colors of the custom paint I did. 😂😂😂 Rattle can satin black on the grill and rear bumper. Plus rubber on the top of the rear bumper for safety stepping. I was eager and my dad let me. 🤷🏼‍♂️
The close ups always look great to me while going around the body.
Rather have the 50 Studebaker. A tough choice though. That Nash was a tie.
    Then the Messerschmitt car.

Hard to beat a "Bullet-Nose" Studebaker. A lot depnds though on the color of the car and whether it is a sedan, coupe, or a hardtop. The '50 Ford in that picture appears to have once been a two-toned Crestliner model that had later been painted black. I never cared for that particluar model much, but a white '50 Ford convertible I would be very desirous to call my own.

I learned to drive on a '50 plymouth,
these cars were so finely detailed for a base car, they had character and they were very permissive on shifting errors, these engines were torque monsters and it was very easy to start on second gear from a standstill stop.
from quality point of view, these early '50 were of a much better fabrication quality than the mid fifties and later equivalents and they were reliable.

I have a real big thing for the Chrysler airflow right now I think I like the 37 the best but they made a lot of different versions of that car.
It would be really awesome if I could find two of them and compare them or compare all three years
with a six cylinder that car can get 34 miles to the gallon and there’s so much space inside of it it’s unreal some of them have trunk some of them don’t it’s just a really interesting car that I hope the future of this year I would really like to drive one

Given the choice I think I would probably pic the Ford, although the Studebaker is hard to deny, and the Nash seems interesting.
