The way he slides and stand up when there is still some momentum is so smooth

I've seen a few of these slides, but glad to see a compilation of them.
The guy turns the clay and grass in front of him into cooking oil on Teflon when he starts to slide, he's that smooth.

Beautiful analogy. His slides are kind of like how Joe DiMaggio used to play the outfield. Pure poetry.

Trea Turner is the Fred Estaire of slides. One in a lifetime to see a player that graceful and smooth.

I played 13-15 league in Colorado and the infield had this weird stuff on it instead of dirt. It was like sliding on crushed seashells. Our pants and batting gloves were trashed from sliding after only a few games.

@@Murdokk00t’s a form of field aggregate. It’s a dirt alternative used so the field isn’t turned into mud if it rains. Still don’t want to play on the field when it’s wet cuz it will destroy it though. MLB fields are made of sand clay and silt mixed in different amounts. The fields are watered before and after every game still though just an fyi. That’s why mlb fields are softer

Worked in college & pro ball as a trainer; watched a LOT of baseball. There are guys who come along who do some aspect of the game unlike 98% of the rest. They may be mediocre at other aspects or they may be top shelf at everything else; there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it.
They make the game of baseball the beauty it is.
Trea's sliding is a good example. How he manages to turn featherlight, like he's mastered gravity, when he throws his body to the ground is a thing of beauty.
Just wondering... ever see him slide head first? Can't say that I have.
Mebbe he REALLY doesn't like the 'in the dugout 5 min later trying to get dirt & grit outta your pants' aftermath of going head first into 2nd.
Mebbe he disliked it so bad he learned how to defy gravity.

When I was 14, a catcher threw a bullet to 2nd and picked me off. The ump wrongly called me safe. I felt so bad. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut and stay on 2nd.
Our third base coach's steal sign for me was to put his hands up and yell across the diamond: "Rico! Steal second!" - I stole almost every time I got on, but only on some pitchers if this catcher was behind the plate.

He's also sliding very late and tapping the plate instead of trying to slide into the base. He's keeping his max running speed further down the line whereas sliding earlier decreases a runners momentum sooner.
