This is such a blessing and I will humbly say that I'm a Homeschool Educational Specialist who has had years of servicing homeschool families successfully and prior to that had nine years of classroom experience from grades TK-8 in the traditional public sector. I was constantly praised by my administration for my effective classroom management and amazing rapport I had with students and parents. THENNNNN I resign to fulfill my calling of homeschooling my own four as what I felt God told me to do and my four year old give SERIOUS push back. I mean full blown melt down all over the floor with tears, kicking and screaming about simply tracing his name. Oh just wait for it... Other times, he will walk up and tell me, "Mom I want to do some work." My goodness if you could only see me shaking me head, laughing and teary eyed as I type this. I work full time from home as a Homeschool ES with a local charter so my littles are in a routine that I need to keep for work purposes (ages 2, 4, 5 & 9). EVERYONE works well with it except my four year old. I'm sure you can imagine as an educator how frustrated I was at first but it's actually turning out to be a testimony as I research determined to find what works for my little guy. Sorry for my ramble BUT my bottom line was that I came across this video and above all else I loved hearing the words "YOU'RE NOT ALONE!" Even though we all know we're not it's so nice to hear it. My husband is convinced he needs to go to private school for kindergarten next year but I don't feel like I'm done trying everything! From a nearly ten year classroom teacher with a Masters Degree in Education and fourth year servicing homeschool families YOU'RE NOT ALONE. I can manage a classroom full of 36 eighth graders and yet my four year old mind boggles me DAILY! Sorry Life in the Mundane for rambling but you truly are a blessing to me. THANK YOU!
I homeschool my youngest son, all my other kids are out of school. He is 12 and hitting puberty has him with a bit of an attitude, emotional and losing focus very quickly. I am fighting his biology with each lesson. Thank you for making this video.
I needed this video so much today!! Thank you!! My kids are currently having quiet time in their bedrooms because I was so very tired of the push and pull this morning. And during such time, I'm here looking at videos/encouragement on how I can do better, what I can adjust and how I can, hopefully, add a little more peace into our homeschooling
Yes we have attitudes esp having five sons. However I have assigned seating and that helps a lot as well as starting and hopefully ending in prayer daily and keeping things as short as possible . We do activities as well during times a year that are warmer to keep from getting stir crazy
Thanks for sharing these strategies! I absolutely love have you your kids back to God’s word 🤗 such a helpful video! This was our first year homeschooling and one of the things that we have definitely worked on is getting our children to express their emotions and how it’s natural to feel certain emotions, but how mindful we have to be about how we act upon it!
Totally off the subject but I have to tell you my funny... I've been watching you for months and I love your video intro and every time I think its so cool that you are a second generation homeschooler and how awesome that would be and while watching this video it dawned on me... I am 🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣. I was homeschooled for 4 years.. oh geesh! 😆 love your videos. They are such an encouragement to me! God bless!
It’s definitely something my parents modeled for me well and you are a 100% right that it’s a muscle that just needs practice and eventually will become natural. Keep up the good work mama.
Thank you so much for sharing this!! The intentional discipling is super challenging to me. Not just in homeschooling but in my youngest picking up toys . Also lesson here is good for us all😞
When I try to communicate about emotions my daughter doesn’t ever open up and just will say Umm sorry momma. I try to give them examples and have their siblings speak on it and then her turn will come and she will just say sorry. It’s really tough on us because she doesn’t let us know what she feels. It’s so frustrating and heartbreaking
I have definitely been there. How old is your daughter? A couple ideas that come to mind when you ask them how there feeling and they can’t answer you can respond with 1) oh no worries I know it can take time to figure it out why don’t you sit there (or go to your room) and think about it and you can let me know once you have it. 2) give her a chart of emotions to choose from and ask which one best describes how she is feeling 3) if you have an idea of her mood give her two options to pick from I hope this can help. Don’t get discouraged just keep modeling it and practicing it.
Thank you so much for this. I am a step by step person and your steps can be easily applied to life and are so good! Looking forward to trying it out…maybe even today 😊
Thank you Katie, for all the resources. I appreciate all the effort you put in to serving other like me that are struggling. God bless you and your family.
With having dyslexic kids I find that this happens a lot!!! My kids struggle to ask for help so fight for it!!! I understand them better than my husband as he expects them to come to us!!! We homeschool day by day!!! I look for pattens!!! We should have more heart to hearts related to the school work, that’s not done much I. Our house but we don’t unfortunately and I need to do this more with my big kids!!! We do discuss the my kids future but not in the day to day struggles. I need to discuss this with my husband so he gets why they don’t ask for help better. Maybe we should use either my bedroom or the kids bedroom for supporting them as they could be embarrassed!!!
My daughter is 8 and math is such a struggle somedays...because she says its boring . I have switched things up but its not exciting to her 🤷♀️ so she gets distracted so easily. But I love the scripture reference because that can't be argued with.
Does anyone have suggestions for getting a 9th grade homeschooler to do his school work?? I have been homeschooling my boys. The oldest graduated in 2020 and his younger brother is 15 yrs old (9th grade) and his 8th year homeschooling. Honestly, the past 2-3 years he just does not enjoy school at all and occasionally mentions he wants to quit. Our evaluator encourages independent learning by 9th grade, with me checking work and giving tests. I feel so weary trying to constantly encourage him. Last year he told me that he felt that God is calling him to be a missionary. I need to at least get him through the next 2 years since he wants to graduate early. I would be grateful for any ideas.
A couple of things come to mind. 1) while many kids by 9th grade can work independently that is not true for all. Some kids require more oversight then others. 2) I am curious what is his problem with school? Is it about difficultly or is it just not feeling like doing it? If it is about not wanting to do it I think explaining that this is what God has called Him to school right now and he needs to be faithful in what God has called him to do. Persevering in the midst of hard things is hard but this will help prepare him for the mission field. Luke 16: 1-12 comes to mind we must be faithful with the things God has given us if we want him to entrust us with more.
My son Greg smiles when he is gotten after but he covers his mouth like he’s embarrassed by it. I don’t know if it has to do with some sort of ADHD etc I remember having the same problem as a kid. It’s so hard 😢
I just found your channel, thank you so much for being here and sharing your wisdom and experience. So excited to look for other videos from you! Loving the encouragement so far!
I am not finding the free printable to the verses you mentioned. I am sure I could just go digging in the Bible myself, but I really did want to see the verses you collected.😁
Im so sorry. I’m having some issues with the link and I’m trying to get it up and working but in the mean time if you email me at lifeinthemundane@gmail.com I can send it to you.

It is not sinful for a child to not want to do something. sining is knowing absolute truth and choosing to go against it. ie keeping the Sabbath day holy and then going out and shopping etc. Sometimes there are mental "problems" or even behavior issues not cut and dry due to "sinning".
I definitely understand mental issues and behavior issues I have several special needs kids and that is why I addressed BOTH sin issues as well as situational issues like you mentioned. The goal is to reach their heart and point them to Christ. Thanks for watching.

I admire how easily you intertwine scripture into discipline. Definitely a muscle of mine that needs practice

I’m so glad to hear it. To be honest as I was preparing for this video I found it incredibly convicting myself.
