  • This is the answer to the water cooler failure. This video is part of the heating and cooling series of training videos made to accompany my websites: www.graycoolingman.com and www.grayfurnaceman.com to pass on what I have learned in many years of service and repair. If you have suggestions or comments they are welcome.
If you are a homeowner looking to repair your own appliance, understand that the voltages can be lethal, the fuels are highly flammable and high pressures are used. Know your limits.

Very neat the way it cools. Thank you GFM for the knowledge.

I've always wondered what kind of system is used in those coolers but I never pulled one out from the wall to inspect. Thanks for your video.

Peltier junctions. Used in all of those DC powered portable coolers (car cigarette lighter cord). It is essentially two sides of a thermopile (a thermocouple driven by a voltage instead of generating a voltage).

What about if your fan is working and still no cold water

Where do you buy the fan? Is it easy to replace?

Is it possible to use it for bigger application? For example Chiller? or water heater or Hybrid systems?

Guy Hakverdi Well, you could if you had more money than Bill Gates. The thermal efficiency is about 5% compared to 300 to 400% for refrigeration.

My cousin just gave me his water cooler because it was not working. I haven't had time to take a closer look. So I assume there is no compressor, evaporator or condenser.
I'll get at it soon. Thanks GFM!

If it doesn't cool you may have the same problem as this one. Check the fan.

My fan works though, what else could it be? The board and the wires are good.

Fan and circuit board works but not cooling the water. Does it make a difference which way the fan blows? Im thinking the peltier semiconductor may be at issue. It does not get warm.

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  Рік тому +1

Fan direction is probably not the issue. If you are getting DC voltage to the semiconductor and no heat, the semiconductor is at fault.

@@grayfurnaceman I concur. A new one has been ordered. They are not expensive. Thank you for your video as it gave me clues to finding a solution.

Does the fan need to blow in or pull out?

      I think it blows out.

You want to remove the heat, so usually the fan pulls the hot air away from the heat sink, however, I have seen many people prefer to push the fresh air onto the heatsink, and there is no noticeable difference in temperature, so I would say as long as there is plenty of fresh air allowed to flow - either way is good. If you are wondering about the set up in the video, the motor mounts will always be on the side that the air is going towards. So here, the motor mounts are outward, so the air is being pushed out towards us. :)

Yep had a portable cooler that had the fan die. These things are resultant devices. Put a new fan in mine and its 15 years old just fine. Known some people that have had them for years as truck drivers!

Try to change peltier module or thermo electric cooler ..or put grease paste .bcoz the supply power of fan same power supply it means same 12 volts fr peltier module...
