Hello form Brazil!! I loved the video, and I really like Machado, you should try Clarice Lispector, an amazing brazilian writer and my personal favorite❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! I actually recently finished 'the Hour of the Star' by Lispector and really liked it and plan on reading more of her soon.

I remember it as he giving an honest approach to the meaningless of life (from a pessimist point of view) when looked out from above, or in this case, from the grave, where the story kind of starts to deteriorate as he writes it. I also like how the closest hes got to ever going religious/transcendental was the fever dreams the character has in the moment of his death (even tho the premisse is life after death in some way), it is in keeping with the nihilistic aesthetics that it builds.
Its been a while since I've read it tho. Excellent Review Andrew!

That's a very insightful take! I liked how Bras Cubas was in a constant search of social status but it eluded him so the only thing he was proud of was his lack of progeny. Thanks for the recommendation!
