      It has become my favorite channel! It's amazing what Alec can make and all of the positivity, creativity, and not being afraid of failure makes his videos truly unique and fun to watch. I don't think you need to be interested in blacksmith or knife making to enjoy his channel. The video quality is top notch in my opinion, you can tell that he is dedicated to making great products and videos!

    Would never have thought of making spurs out of Damascus. Just didn't occur to me. Regular mild steel or silver, yes, but not Damascus. I am sure in the next video, your finished spurs will be absolutely gorgeous. Have a great day. Looking forward to the next video.

    Awesome project!! Those are gonna be mind blowing epicness!!!

    Alec, you may want to consider turning that small taper with your compound. look down at the base and there should be a degreed ring. The benefit of this would be so your tool bit can cut at the correct angle giving your a nicer finish. It is also easier turning one handle on the compound instead of two. looking forward to seeing the finished product! giddy up cowboy!

    • @AlecSteele
      @AlecSteele  7 років тому

      +Channel 67x when i first read this I was confused - I have now understood! My confusion was because I was trying to make a dome shape - but your explanation of using the compound to make a taper makes perfect sense!! My lathe is also equipped with a taper attachement should I ever need to do any serious tapering 😀

    Alec, I haven't been this impressed by a young man in ages and I am a medical professor just to give you the scope of the comment. Likewise, I adore blacksmithing more than the art of medicine....well to that end I am an admin on many blacksmithing groups as well as have my own group, 'Modern Blacksmithing" and would be so very grateful to have your permission to post a link to your daily videos on my FB group page. I will be in Germany in a three weeks ...too bad I won't get the chance to stop by...well, perhaps another time.

    Love your stuff, man! The patterns you are able to create are pretty phenomenal. Is there any chance you could do a video where you forge weld your damascus on an anvil? It seems like most of the videos I see of folks who forge damascus use power hammers or presses to do it. Those of us who don't want to shell out several thousand dollars for those tools (and couldn't fit them in our work spaces even if we did) could benefit from seeing you do it the old fashioned way. Thanks!

    looking good bud, cant wait to see the finished product. I am really trying to get into smithing but am having a tough time finding fiber blanket to build a gas forge. any suggestions where to look? I thought I had found a lead just before christmas at a pottery place in medicine hat alberta (I'm in saskatchewan) but when I got there everythng was locked up and it was posted as a heritage site. Other than that im looking at huge shipping expences and minimum quantities.

    Love the channel, love the damascus spurs. You are a hell of a craftsman. One problem, though. Being a native Texan, I can't help but point out that your Texas flag is backwards. The red stripe should be on the left when hanging vertically.

    Wow. Man that's mad!!! As someone who's used to the way you present and come over on camera now it's really really really strange watching you from 6 years ago. You've got a very similar personality in many ways but the modern you feels a lot more true to the "real" you. You're so much more relaxed and your happy to speak totally freestyle so to speak covering anything that comes to mind and you express yourself far better. Whilst you were perfectly clear back then in terms of what you meant and wanted to get over and even though you came across as fairly enthusiastic and "real" now you can tell your explanations are totally off the top of your head and everything feels more natural and comfortable. Now it's like watching a mate or at least someone you know or are working with. It's a brilliant style and works so well with the stuff you do.
