It has become my favorite channel! It's amazing what Alec can make and all of the positivity, creativity, and not being afraid of failure makes his videos truly unique and fun to watch. I don't think you need to be interested in blacksmith or knife making to enjoy his channel. The video quality is top notch in my opinion, you can tell that he is dedicated to making great products and videos!
Would never have thought of making spurs out of Damascus. Just didn't occur to me. Regular mild steel or silver, yes, but not Damascus. I am sure in the next video, your finished spurs will be absolutely gorgeous. Have a great day. Looking forward to the next video.
Alec Steele, the greatest youtuber know to man! Keep up the good work! Your enthusiasm is contagious, and it is a joy to watch your videos every day. :)
love your video's. i make bits and spurs part time and have been making some knives this winter. i have been wanting to make some damascus spurs based on "kelly bros" gal leg spurs. iam currently working on how to make damascus. still have a long way to go but slowly getting there. keep up the good work.
Alec, how about your next Damascus project be 1,000 layer Damascus billet!!!! No one has done it on UA-cam! Views GALORE 😂!!!!! Plus it is also how some Japanese knife makers made the Damascus back in the day! Awesome project!! Those are gonna be mind blowing epicness!!!
Alec, you may want to consider turning that small taper with your compound. look down at the base and there should be a degreed ring. The benefit of this would be so your tool bit can cut at the correct angle giving your a nicer finish. It is also easier turning one handle on the compound instead of two. looking forward to seeing the finished product! giddy up cowboy!
+Channel 67x when i first read this I was confused - I have now understood! My confusion was because I was trying to make a dome shape - but your explanation of using the compound to make a taper makes perfect sense!! My lathe is also equipped with a taper attachement should I ever need to do any serious tapering 😀
Alec, I haven't been this impressed by a young man in ages and I am a medical professor just to give you the scope of the comment. Likewise, I adore blacksmithing more than the art of medicine....well to that end I am an admin on many blacksmithing groups as well as have my own group, 'Modern Blacksmithing" and would be so very grateful to have your permission to post a link to your daily videos on my FB group page. I will be in Germany in a three weeks ...too bad I won't get the chance to stop by...well, perhaps another time.
+Charles Wright Thank you so much for the lovely message, Charles! It means a tremendous amount to hear this. I would be thrilled if you were to share my videos with your group 😀 have a safe trip in Germany!
Love your stuff, man! The patterns you are able to create are pretty phenomenal. Is there any chance you could do a video where you forge weld your damascus on an anvil? It seems like most of the videos I see of folks who forge damascus use power hammers or presses to do it. Those of us who don't want to shell out several thousand dollars for those tools (and couldn't fit them in our work spaces even if we did) could benefit from seeing you do it the old fashioned way. Thanks!
looking good bud, cant wait to see the finished product. I am really trying to get into smithing but am having a tough time finding fiber blanket to build a gas forge. any suggestions where to look? I thought I had found a lead just before christmas at a pottery place in medicine hat alberta (I'm in saskatchewan) but when I got there everythng was locked up and it was posted as a heritage site. Other than that im looking at huge shipping expences and minimum quantities.
Love the channel, love the damascus spurs. You are a hell of a craftsman. One problem, though. Being a native Texan, I can't help but point out that your Texas flag is backwards. The red stripe should be on the left when hanging vertically.
+thejohnnybob Thanks man! Massively appreciate the kind words! BUT! The Texas flag is in fact in the correct orientation - I made sure to google the correct orientation when I installed it 😉
Any chance of a forge use video? Recently gotten a propane forge and Im not 100% on when to open and close the air intake, when to increase pressure and so on. If there already are videos on this, im sorry, i must have overlooked them :)
Wow. Man that's mad!!! As someone who's used to the way you present and come over on camera now it's really really really strange watching you from 6 years ago. You've got a very similar personality in many ways but the modern you feels a lot more true to the "real" you. You're so much more relaxed and your happy to speak totally freestyle so to speak covering anything that comes to mind and you express yourself far better. Whilst you were perfectly clear back then in terms of what you meant and wanted to get over and even though you came across as fairly enthusiastic and "real" now you can tell your explanations are totally off the top of your head and everything feels more natural and comfortable. Now it's like watching a mate or at least someone you know or are working with. It's a brilliant style and works so well with the stuff you do.
Alec you should should learn how to melt down all those shavings you make with the lathe and turn them back into steel might save you some money if it works
shookings Not 100% sure what class he was a part of in Texas(young Smiths 2014?). He loves Texas and the people of Texas, that's for sure. Again don't quote me on that.
It's really nice getting to see a video that's different than the usual knife. It really shows all the cool stuff blacksmiths can do
Great video, glad your excitement is contagious!
Really awesome idea. Can't wait to see the finished product!
I don't think I'll ever get tried of seeing that beast of a power hammer move steel. Keep it up.
Always great to see you turn out new projects!
+Chris Maxson Thank you Chris!
love the spurs Alec, keep up your great work
This is rapidly becoming my favorite channel

Another great video! I look forward to them!

Looking good
Can't wait to see the next episode, I like that you've branched out into other things aswell as all things weapon related lol
Blacksmithing and horses go hand in hand.
Excellent!
DAMASCUS SPURS!!! Really. Amazing! Weatherford Texas with eat them up. Cutting horse capital of the USA.
Alec, have you hit your lathe chuck with you cutting tool yet?
This was worth looking at my phone at 12:10 am the day of midterms
Cameron Maccrae this is two years in the future so I’m guessing you took the exams by now so how did you do?
XD
Giddy up Alec.
How about some Damascus dog tags or jewelry pieces??

Thank you Jonathan! :) The trick is to just use a smaller billet and scale it all down! :)
I was just thinking would it have helped to tack the spurs together so you'd bend them identical?
For the Mosaic steel, have you ever considered chopping it up into Little round steel medallions?

I love the work you do and your vids, but i really enjoy the music you use, where the hell do you find it?
would spurs fit on converse, and if so how much do they cost on average
knucklehead on average it costs your social life, self confidence, and mental well being. other than that pretty cheap.

Alec you should should learn how to melt down all those shavings you make with the lathe and turn them back into steel might save you some money if it works

You're either up early or staying up WAY late. Love the vid though.
Alec, what's the story on the Texas flag? Not something one expects to see in a Brit's blacksmith forge.
shookings Not 100% sure what class he was a part of in Texas(young Smiths 2014?). He loves Texas and the people of Texas, that's for sure. Again don't quote me on that.
I'm early!
MWAHAHAH EARLY AGAIN!

An Englishman making cowboy spurs out of damascus steel to dubstep music.. Okay!
