I'm not great at repairs but you've given me the confidence to try and fix mine. Thank you.

    I used to have a CCR81 but I think I like the CCR82 better!
It's a nice compact size with excellent features. Having LINE level outputs with automatic volume options means it's so easy to load data cassettes on my Dragon 32 and Tandy Color Computers.
OF course it can be used on a wide variety of other 8-bit machines probably making it the perfect cassette loading device for older computers.

THANKS! I can't believe there is anything for this recorder. One belt was broken and now I know where it is threaded.

Glad it helped. I know how hard it is to find details on some obscure items. I repaired a tape deck this summer, only found one video online about it. While I was disassembling it I popped a small spring off and didn't know where it was anchored originally. Even though this video wasnt on a repair but tear down overview I managed to grab a few frames of the video that clearly showed where the tiny bugger belonged.

Nice looking recorder. Looks great next to the Model 102. You might want to use Retrobrite on the case of the 102: it will look brand new.

I am debating it. As much ad I want it to look brand new, I also like the look and feel of the true vintage. I have another 102 that is not 100 percent in working order (lcd issues) mainly a display piece that I might retro brite.

How do I change/correct the Head alignment on this machine? I have a Zx Spectrum +2a which has a built in deck for loading tapes, and it sounds much clearer than the audio output from my RS-CCR-81 that I am trying to use for loading tapes onto my new Spectrum Next. The lack of definition is clearly affecting the ability to load onto the computer. Thanks.

try recording a tape with it and playing it back. If it sounds muddy as well it is probably not the azimuth. If it sounds muddy a on tapes not recorded by itself but fine on recordings made in it then head azimuth is out. I would try demagnetizing the head first before messing with azimuth adjustments. A magnetized head is by far the most common cause of loss of high frequency response.

There's a lot of audible "wow" on the tape. I'd bet one of your new belts isn't uniform in thickness. I usually have to dig through the piles of crappy chinese belts with my calipers to find one that has the same thickness when measured at several points. It doesn't appear to matter to the Tandy computer, but remember that the wow is added when recording AND at playback, so it can have an additive effect depending on where the belt is when you play it back.
