I agree with what you said at the end of the video -- the titans are all decently balanced and match up together alright, at least on most maps. For me, the main complaints with titan balance is how easy it is to kill pilots/their kit selection. I think part of the reason Monarch, Tone, and even Ronin get so much hate is because their primaries are comparatively easy to kill pilots with; Tone's 40mm has double the ammo capacity of Northstar's railgun and generous splash damage to boot, Monarch's chaingun doesn't need to be spun up or slow down your move speed and has practically infinite range if you're managing the spread, and Ronin's shotty has a wide hitbox and still decent range if you aim. Monarch has pretty cool kits like Survival of the Fittest, but there's no reason to run anything other than Energy Thief. Scorch has a similar problem; his other kits arent necessarily bad (other than the Firewall one), but tempered plating is so necessary that it just overshadows everything else. good video m8
@@puppetfan4634 if you set up your incendiary traps and firewall decently, tempered plating is much better and gets you much more dps, also you cant forget tempered plating which makes the enemies unable to hit crits which makes scorch survive for longer
i think a lot of the frustration with tone comes from how binary her counters are - you either can counter her or you cant. ronin? can counter, easy. ion? can counter, easy. monarch, legion, scorch? tough luck. its especially sucky for the titans that cant counter her, since theyre either ogre-class and too slow to get out of fights against her, or monarch, who cant afford to take any unnecessary damage. theres also the element of her being by far the easiest to play. some people who invest themselves a lot into playing higher skill floor titans end up pretty frustrated when someone whos put in half the hours can outperform them, and for good reason - its a shitty feeling. in the end though, i think youre right about TF|2’s titans being very well balanced. none of them make other obsolete, and the only one that can come out massively underpowered is scorch just by the nature of being so map-dependent.
Here's my personnal ranking: 1. Monarch (heals and outlives) 2. Ronin (speed and strategic attacks) 3. Scorch (dangerous damage) 4. Ion (counter pressure) 5. Legion (disrupting offensive) 6. Tone (field advantage and salvo core) 7. Northstar (range assist) Monarch can survive long enough to always make a decent value in score and kills. Legion lacks adaptability for tough situations. Northstar and Tone are predictable and can be easily avoided.
One thing I disagree with is your Scorch placement. It’s a C-tier Titan due to his utter dependency on what map you play. While his highs might be a or even s-tier depending on the map, he can also fall to d-tier on maps like Homestead. Also before I get murdered by Scorch mains, I am one myself. It’s far and away my highest gen titan and I have nearly 48 hours played as Papa Scorch. Also while I’m saying controversial things, a good Ronin beats Scorch 9 times out of 10.
@@INeedToSeeYourBalls1945 Oh for sure, that's why he's my main. Melting a poor Legion that just dropped by a wall is so much fun. And good Flame Cores? I mained tone at the beggining and i gotta say, you can get countered real easy. If you just rush a tone they will half of the time panic and end up at the other side of the shield, and in the other half they wont get enough damage in, and might even hurt themselves in the process due to splash damage. The titan i "hate" the most is monarch, not just because it can get annoying very quicly, but because in months of playing, its the only titan I've personally encountered that has the most toxic pilots. I have respects for good roning players tho, even if they rush, its hard to master ronin
I think monarch is a bit too strong, simply because she can gain first ult during 1v1, which will make her stronger than any titan + grant her full shield.
personally, I'm all for controller, but a mouse and keyboard is definitely the better input due to how fast the game is and because of all the movement tech, that isn't restricted by controller
In my opinion, monarch is already too op without the upgrades, buuuut if shes a right fit for you is mostly based on your playstyle. So i think she is kinda no-skill but it depends on the player himself.
I'd wager that the continued Tone hate is lefotver from those olden days of course but also sourced from her being a natural counter to as popular of a titan as Ronin, and that you can't just rush her headon.
Idk I really disagree on Ronin and Scorch part (maybe because they are the only titans I played so far with my 80 hours into the game xD). I'll quickly mention the objective stuff though: you should've compared all the titans on different skill levels (like 3). Beginner, intermediate and a great player. Like a beginner Ronin is somewhere in the middle of the D tier by how easy he is to kill, while master Ronin is the absolute S that nobody would want to fight even about the same skill I'm sure. And about Ronin and Scorch placement - I have a feeling that dealing consistent damage is pretty good for your damage counter. And with that both Ronin and Scorch struggles really much. Like compare Monarch and Scorch. With Monarch at worst you do like 3k damage before dying, and with Scorch...Get Nortstar'd across the map you bozo. And I think you can tell how anxious this feels. Pretty similar with Ronin, but atleast he has chances to cut the distance and do some long shots with the leadwall. Scorch is pretty strong in low level pool. Very easy to deal colossal amounts of damage, no argue with that. On intermediate levels he already starts feeling very clumsy, as his Ogre chassis makes him an always easy target, and he can be kited real easy to be honest. And with good players bad Scorch just feels like absolute torture seriously. Most people know how to counter your kit if you were to make a light mistake, so you waste your ENTIRE arsenal to do not much damage, while some general Ion main holds down his left mouse button and annihilates you without any skill requirement lol. It is only if you play your cards great you have just A CHANCE to fight a Northstar, just because you cannot approach and you cannot corner. As well as you cannot really tank for too much time. So Scorch is not bad at low level players pool, but too draining to play against actual great players. And it's the same but backwards with Ronin. He's a terrible titan if you decide to go spam melees into somebody's face, a little frustrating but not as bad at intermediate level, and the absolute beast if you know what you are doing. Like imagine your back encounters 2 HP bars swordcored good Ronin main who knows what they are doing. I'm 100% sure even fullcored Monarch doesn't have that much chance if you ask me, because DPS mixed with astonishing mobility does wonders. Im neutral with others in the tier list, maybe just the Monarch getting moved to the S tier solely because how little her gameplay asks for in order to do carrying for your garbage Ronins and Scorches teammates. Like without her core she's already not a bad middle B tier titan for any level (just a little underpowered), and if you grab just 2 of them becomes high up in the A tier, stronger than Ronin arguably. But of course the 3rd upgrade is the strongest one, as you can remember.. So I say Scorch is like down the C tier, as his gameplay is just so tiring if you are against good players, and Ronin is down of the A tier, as he's just so bad if you don't plan on playing him much. Monarch is barely S tier as she doesn't have a real weakness and her gameplay amplifies your skill (you can do only so much with your 3 HP bars even if you are a great Ronin, but with Monarch you can sometimes have KD above 8 just because of the battery on termination).
My take: From having 22Hrs played with Monarch, easily an S tier even without upgrades, super simple primary, rearm master race, shields baybee Scorch is C tier, easily the worst titan in the game, so map specific and if any other titan has half a brain they will just back up and shoot you Ronin is the most broken Titan in the game, sword shield blocks way too much damage and can block whole cores! plus phasing! absolute BS. Ronin is essentially a complete counter to tone and nothing can be done in retaliation, super unfair. Northstar needs turbo engine to be efficient. the playstyle with NS is zoom, dash, shoot, dash, with 2 dashes you can't do that as good so you gotta have 3 dashes my dude, even with having a pretty meh secondary ability in cluster missile, a shit 3rd in hover, a joke for a "defensive" ability and a shit core, easily A tier even so. Ions core sucks. A lot of people say its good and while I admit its cool, its super slow and apart from northstars core its the slowest and easiest to dodge in the game. tone is completely balanced. From playing the game since launch, tone was easily the best titan in the game, but they nerfed tf outta her and she basically became a shadow of her former self, whilst annoying to go against, she is definitely not as good anymore. legion is probably the most fun you can have with 2 hands on a long, hard and guzzling machine ;) always been balanced and never seen anyone complain about legion, fair play my guy.
