  • Ran into some foul weather enroute to Chicago. You can hear the rain splatter against the window and at times the rain was heavy but it made for an interesting ride. I love these Express runs on the BNSF. (the signal indications I am reading are often not correct.
    I am facing these aspects on what I see on my home Railroad, the Long Island rail Road. They are not the same in the Midwest. My apologies.)

    In the late 80s/early 90s, I lived directly across from the Harlem Ave station. Every day, I'd have a front row seat to the "dinky parade" headed up by BN's classic E units!!

    I miss this one and Geneva to Chicago. I moved from Illinois to Tennessee in 2005.

    I certainly like the head end shots, Tim. Much better than shots out of a side window, Head end shots give us a real feel for the line. Even rear facing shots beat side window shots. I'm not interested in seeing the grass, trees and buildings along a right-of-way.. I want to get the engineer's prospective. I want to see the switches, signals, approaching trains, etc.

    A suggestion for you would be to adjust the volumes between your voice and the sound of the trains. We watch and listen to your awesome videos but to listen you and then a train whistle blows and it lifts us out of the room. We try but then when we listen to the trains then we can't hear you. Just a suggestion and thanks for all you do.

      I think the issue here was the way I was holding the camera I wasn’t as close to the microphone as I would like. That can be easily remedied

    I like how Metra appears to have priority. But i think that is because its run by a BNSF crew? That rain just came through Philly.

    • @3985uprr
      @3985uprr  2 роки тому +2

      During rush hours, the dinkies as they call those trains, have priority. This has been true even back in BN and CB&Q days. The freights are held off until after the rush.

    I am a bit confused here? According to Metra, this line is back to pre-pandemic schedules, but you say otherwise???

    • @3985uprr
      @3985uprr  2 роки тому

      The rush hour sees a lot less trains. There are only 2 Naperville express runs. Pre pandemic there were about 5 or 6 unless they just added stops for those trains today. I don’t have a 2019 schedule to compare notes

    Your signal and sign knowledge needs lots of help. YELLOW over YELLOW is NOT "Approach Slow", Nor is RED over FLASHING YELLOW "Limited Approach" under GCOR rules. Those aspects exist mainly on eastern railroads. A RED BOARD does not mark the beginning of a slow order, rather - it marks the Limits of a Stop Order "Form B"... I would suggest you provide yourself with a copy of signal aspects in effect on the railroad you are going to ride over, or enlist the help of a railroad employee.

    • @3985uprr
      @3985uprr  Рік тому

      Yes. I am calling out what I see based on what I see often on the LIRR. I can see per BNSF signal indication site that I am wrong about many. Now you know what the signals mean if you ever travel on the Long Island Railroad or other eastern roads

      @@3985uprr I think you miss the point of my note... you are spreading dis-information to those who watch your video. If you aren't sure of signal indications, rules or stop boards either do not mention them or seek help from a qualified person or employee. Any of us would be glad to help and this eliminates the teaching of wrong information. For the record, I already knew NORAC aspects prior to your video.
