@@HHH-ye1ro You know what though, I'm at 37:33 in this video and while the blood on Michael Jackson Balanos' jacket and backpack is all the hard evidence I think I'd need to have judged him guilty, it does give me pause that he supposedly was seen on camera, would have entered her home, st.@bbed her 8 times about the head and neck and then run off and be seen running on camera again less than a minute later... like holy **** that's barely possible I'd have thought. Is it a reasonable doubt that maybe he tested the door, found it open, stepped in the house, saw the blood everywhere (and got some on his sleeve and bag) and booked it on out of there? Could she have already have stumbled out of the house and collapsed on the sidewalk hours earlier? Could he have come across her body on the sidewalk, bent down to see what was up, if she was alive or maybe feel her pockets for a wallet before getting blood on him and panicking? If so, why didn't he say that to police towards the end of the interrogation? Absolutely. I called 911 3 times in a 4 month stretch a few years ago. The anxiety is still insidious at times, but thankfully no crazy panic attacks since then.
It was hard to hear him, brought me to tears actually. Pot can really mess with people mentally. I’ve had it happen to me although not that bad luckily.
As someone who works in a mental health facility, I can honestly “buy” the ex boyfriend having a psychotic episode/paranoia. With all of the treatments he recently underwent plus the med change PLUS smoking weed? That’s a recipe for disaster. Changing your psych med dosage on its own is plenty taxing on your mental well-being. Obviously this doesn’t make him immune from guilt, but just something to consider.
Well and obviously intrusive thoughts are a thing, especially if you're in a high anxiety state and underwent ECT and are on a new medicine mixed with Marijuana.
An hour video, wow, thanks for your great efforts Kevin, it's sad to watch these cases especially when we already know by now how many could have been prevented 🥺

Thanks Kevin for another incredible case. The thing that makes your channel stand out from ALL the rest is not only the fact that you bring us cases that we have never seen covered before, it's the fact that you choose to bring us cases that are either controversial or are not so "cut and dry". You bring us cases that could easily go either way. That is what truly makes you stand out from all the rest and it's what has put you into my NUMBER ONE SPOT of TC channels on this platform This case had plenty of "reasonable doubt"!! The attorneys for the defense did a great job of presenting that reasonable doubt!! I'm still about 10 mins from the end of the video but it's quite clear the defense did a great job of presenting the reasonable doubt. It's not the job of the defense to prove "innocence", it's her job to raise "reasonable doubt" and that's exactly what the defense did very well in this case BUT they made some careless mistakes. When you really take the rime to analyze their version of events it just does t make sense. Its like gwy attacked certain details in the case and gave alternate facts but didn't take the time to put the story together with theor version and compare it to the prosecutions version and the actual facts. Biggest prblem I think was when the defendant said the body was cold. That one statement went against everything his attorney tried to present!!! 🤘🏻🇬🇧
Just goes to show how real mental health is 😢 I myself am schizophrenic & bipolar & suffer from hallucinations & paranoia. Luckily I am someone who recognise this & thankfully I am on medication that works well & helps me live a stress free, happy, normal life.❤😮😢

The entire trial is on UA-cam. 1. The boyfriend was not interrogated because he asked for a lawyer that his mom willingly called without even asking her son why was he in jail. 2. The boyfriend was released from the police 3 days later with immunity and his knife. 4. Items from his car, home, his black jacket, or knife was never submitted for DNA testing. 5. The house was covered in blood and the killer would have also been covered in blood. 6. Michael was seen on surveillance at the Casino, moments after the time prosecutors stated she was killed. Blood was not visible and had wore the same clothes he was wearing on parking lot surveillance footage breaking in cars. 7. There were 2 sets of finger prints on the handle of the front door. One was Samantha and the other set of finger prints wasn’t submitted as evidence by the county. 7. Michael’s cell phone never shared the same location as Samantha’s cell phone and Michael received text from his girlfriend before and after the time prosecutors stated that she was killed. 8. The small amount of blood found on his backpack was tested, but they could only confirm that it was blood and they stated that they never tested the backpack for Samantha blood. 9. Michael police records were all for non violent crimes. 10. Michael shoes were tested for blood. The prosecutor never provided the results of that test and the shoe print was not a topic of the prosecutor. Long story short; watch the trial for yourself.
I felt the same way then did more background investigating on the Defendant. Apparently he was involved in a human trafficking ring and also had a proclivity to stabbing inmates when imprisoned before (which weren't allowed to be entered as evidence as Judge deemed it too prejudicial). I believe he is guilty and they will find a way to keep him locked up.
@@annQT3 Even people that were exonerated years after being convicted of a crime and have been put into positions in prison where they have been forced to use violence to survive, that doesn't prove anything. One confessed of maybe killing her, the other had her blood on his belongings. They both lied, but so did the police. This case is just a mess, full of lies, deception and sadness. 😢
But the only lies that should be relevant are the lies of the defendants. I can't see the car thief killing her that viciously, makes no sense. I missed a bit of the video, was anything missing from her apt?

Samantha’s home gave an indication of the type of woman she was. I liked her bright and quirky art and style of decor, her personality shined through her home. She seemed a powerhouse of a woman with a beautiful vibrant smile. The terror she must’ve experienced in being ambushed, I have left my front door open before by accident too, I will be extra careful now 😞 So sad and if the street prowler did murder her he has a special pace in hell waiting for him. Her blood getting onto his jacket is just too much of a coincidence for me, although he didn’t steal any of her belongings I think he panicked and just left the scene. Rest in peace Samantha 🌹 You did not deserve to lose your life in such a violent and senseless way 🥀
She's a progressive liberal. Activist for equality, no cash bail, while living in a luxurious townhouse. She's part of the problem why crime is up. Gotta love these social justice warriors, they want less officers patrolling, leniency, how did that turn out for her?
Wow! The ex looks a bit like the other running man. I feel the police CHOSE to not investigate the other running man, at all! And that car that took away so fast. I think that running man ran to the car, drove away fast, and if the police had investigated that man the same way, the real murderer would have been found.

Jeff’s Auvelity experience scans for me. I switched to this medication and within a week found myself higher than I’ve ever been any substance. To the point of disorientation and mentally incapacitation. I pretty much lost a week thinking it would get better. It did not until I got off the med.
@@loki2stuntthat's not how it works. jeff was likely ruminating about sam's death and how she was killed. he mustve been alone while processing all of this and coupled with his meds and the weed that night, it's not surprising that he ended up feeling convinced it was his fault. i want to add that when someone loses a loved one suddenly to a tragic event, they may often feel like they had a part in not preventing the death. it's an irrational sense of guilt i myself felt for ages after one of my good friends took his life. things like that can eat away at a person and if they're not stable, can cause feelings of intense guilt and paranoia like jeff experienced. and that's why he was convinced he killed her
Man, oh, man. This is a doozy. No matter what the truth is, though, the fact the jury was 50/50 several times per day for 5 days screams "reasonable doubt." May Sam rest in peace. 🕊
If the jury member whose comments we heard thinks that a reason for acquitting the defendant was that the ex boyfriend was equally likely to have committed the crime because he "also lied to police" (which he clearly did not!), then that is at least one person who should have been removed from the jury pool....
I can’t be the only one that is looking at the unidentified “person running away from murder scene” caught on the camera footage around 35:14 and looking at the ex boyfriend testifying on the stand like “They’re the same picture”. That’s him! How could they not identify him???
I didn't catch that, you're right! Looks exactly like him, wow! You pay attention to detail! Definitely sounded more like a crime of passion also, no doubt.
The person who confessed first did it. As soon the other guy said he didn’t enter into someone’s home when the police lied and told him they had footage and he still said no he didn’t, I believed him. Sam opened the door to someone she trusted there were no signs of breaking in. Whoever she let in killed her and left.
This guy was a thief, not murderer. It makes me irate how the police did a cut and paste to put this man in jail. The judge, handing down a sentence of 18 months to 15 years for lying to the police is despicable. The boyfriend that admitted to the murder is a bloody witness, really. The murderer is still on the street because the police had tunnel vision. Very emotional video and well done.
So you think the thief just happened upon a dead body, touched it with his bare hands (per his own testimony) all by happenstance? Sorry but that seems absurd
@@whosaidthat9265 Why not? He was obviously walking all around the city that night. Maybe he was actually checking to see if she had any dough on her. Other neighbor came across her as well.
@@helenmcdonnell2585I don't remember it but I had a change in my depression medication in 2016 and went from Palm to elbow a long the vein of my left arm and almost died. I believe him and them about it just being a delusion. Now while I was thinking the other guy is a thief not a killer, they stated he had the blood on him. That's irrefutable. I don't believe for a second that that blood got on him because he just touched her. They said there was blood splatter. Blood splatter is only transferred DURING a crime.
Shocking that police lied to the suspect about his phone being traced into her house, with a video of him exiting her building. That was "evidence that did not exist." I find it frightening that such a tactic would be used. They lost their case if he was guilty. If not guilty, he would have been imprisoned for a murder he did not commit. Another thought-provoking and outstanding upload from Kevin.
No, they wouldn't have. It's completely legal for them to lie to you about having evidence that proves you are guilty. And if you're even halfway intelligent or have any experience with the justice system/being questioned/getting arrested, and you were in fact innocent, you'd know immediately that they were lying about having this evidence. Because they would have come to your house & arrested you on murder charges the second they had that footage. Not followed you for a week & then took you in on some bogus charge they made up just to get you in the station.
It's common knowledge that police can tell porky pies during an interrogation. If you're innocent & they're telling you *lies,* if you're innocent, you know this is not true & would protest. If I was told they had video of me entering a building, I'd tell them to get me some buttered popcorn lightly salted & let's all watch that video together. That is such an easy lie to dispel.
They have yet to get it right. It's obvious the petty thief was just that a foolish petty thief that belongs where he is. Ex boyfriend, police thief, all liars. What about unidentified person on the other camera. Rest in peace Sam.
This case is a testament to why most every lawyer will tell their client not to take the stand. It was open and shut for acquittal. The only reason why it took them so long, and they were deadlocked is because of his inconsistencies on the stand first he said he didn’t know the race of the girl then he said the woman was white two seconds later !! he said the body was cold. According to the defenses theory, the body couldn’t be cold, personally there’s too much reasonable doubt to convict him. I don’t know if he did it but there’s too much reasonable doubt so I think they reached the right conclusion.
The former boyfriend's mental health issues and delayed panic attacks in the aftermath of Sam's murder was just the wedge of ambiguity that the defendant needed to reinforce reasonable doubt into this case. 🤔
@@Mikael20245Oddly, there are plenty of false confessions. Despite popular belief, 99.99% of the time, they are ruled out by good detective work. Thankfully, that was the case here.
The former bf did it. But it would be antls3m3tlc to arrest and convict him , cause of their special treatment in america. Some will not like this fact being posted
Police arrived 20 minutes after the call! Let that sink in to all people who rely on the police to "save them". When seconds count, police a literally minutes (20) away.
A new case for me and a case that is a roller coaster of twist & turns. Although interesting to follow the reality is I feel so bad for her family and feel sick that no one was held accountable and justice was not served. But I do appreciate your coverage & finding a case that I had not heard of before. You have a great channel and I am shocked that you don’t already have 1 mil followers, but that will be changing soon I am sure
Sam was an awesome person. Rest well. Also, I appreciate that you are willing to cover cases with ambiguous endings and non-convictions. It is far more interesting than showing the same high profile convicted cases over and over again.
Sorry. He's guilty in my opinion. He said he didnt even know the race of the woman when he touched her, but then said he was afraid to be labeled since he was a black man and she was a white woman. Plus, blood was found on his clothes... I would have found him guilty for sure.
This is why someone like you should never serve on a jury it's clear that the boyfriend or the other man who was not found should have been investigated more
Wasn’t she face forward and on her knees? Her hard would have been covering her face and her neck? When he touched her, the blood would have gotten on his jacket because she was stabbed in the back of her head. Yes, he’s a black man, and his concern was valid.
This is my first video of yours and it's exceptional and i appreciate your hard work and attention to detail more than I can express. This new subbie is going exploring now 😊 👍 💯
Great video Kevin ♥ Another really thought provoking case. I'd like to know why the police didn't track the movements of that other man seen in the area... IMO there was insufficient evidence to convict Michael. He was a thief - why would he just go in to an unlocked house, kill someone violently from behind, and not steal anything? He got 18 months to 15 years for lying to the police (the top end of which is frightening) - what did the cops get for lying to him? They told him they had his cell phone data placing him inside her house AND video of him exiting the house. If he had been in the house he did a remarkable job of not cracking then, or creating some cover story about it.
Dead persons blood on your jacket. Admitting to touching a dead person yet his dna is not on the deceased. Wonder if that had to do having gloves on? Career criminal. Plenty of people have been found guilty for less.
@UndergroundRaww to be fair he did say some crazy stuff. This is gonna sound bad, but I'd like to know the jury break down by race. I bet it would be revealing to a big extent.
And that’s not a good thing. This is even less evidence than normal. There’s too much reasonable doubt and not even enough circumstantial evidence. If I was on the jury I wouldn’t be able to convict either. Still upsetting that what seems like a great woman lost her life it seems randomly.
@@kenw2225 actually no. This is only 0,00000001% of innocents charged and lynched. What about the 10s of thousands of african americans who were wrongly accused and lynched, these are the best examples. Your suggestion isn't one.
@@TheBrian1964I thought the same thing.. why didn’t they work diligently to identify THAT guy?! The only plausible reason would be that if the crime happened “between the hours of 1:30am-4:30am” as the video/evidence suggests then the guy seen “running from the crime scene “ couldn’t be responsible being that he left the crime scene before 1:30
Up to 15 years for lying to the cops? I know the likelihood of him serving that much time is very low and we aren’t dealing with an angel, but that appears the judge thought he was guilty and dropped an unreasonable hammer.
15 years for lying to the cops??? How is that even remotely fair???? Don’t get me wrong, I think he is guilty of the actual *redrum* so 15 years is a slap on the wrist for that but 15 years is just insane for the crime he was convicted of ….. 😮 🤯 😳
@@jburton413prolly cuz they think he's guilty also. He also has a wrap sheet and lied in a case that was murder. I dunno if he is guilty or not. They created reasonable doubt for me so I can see why it's dead locked.
It's sad a beautiful young woman was killed for nothing and no one gonna be held accountable for it. As a woman I am so sick and of hearing women's being kill like our life doesn't matter. We as women's has a right to live and not be killed by some heartless man.
@sharonscales674 The jury's decision and my opinion is that the killer is still out there. He may have been in that quart room. But it was not the man on trial. Now it turns out that the last boyfriend got immunity according to another post here. If it's any consolation what I gather is that Sam would not want an innocent man convicted of killing her. May that bring you peace. May we all continue to strive to "be", not to "seem".
For all anyone knows she may have been killed by a woman. Yes it's sad but assuming it must have been a man or implying only men kill women is silly. Women kill their husbands, their children and can even choose to legally murder their own unborn children, and men have no say in the matter. So it's def not an issue of poor women and only heartless men.
Women aren’ the only ones who have been killed for something or nothing. Men and children have too, and it’s been happening for centuries on a daily basis.
@scroogemcduckrich9705 no the blood they found on his back pack and jacket does though. Mind you they found blood on his jacket after his family washed it for him before police got ahold of it. He seemed awfully worried in that phone call to his GF about whether or not they washed his jacket LIKE HE TOLD THEM TO. Calling her stupid for not washing it then she says she did wash it.
@@rogerstone481LOL that’s not what he said in the phone call to his gf but you’ll believe it because your mind tells you he’s “guilty” with very little evidence.. Tell me, why was there none of his DNA found in her home? What about to fingerprints on the door that weren’t submitted as evidence?? Bloody shoe print on the pillow?? 🤔 Seems like a police coverup was in effect.
My thoughts exactly. I posted this elsewhere but... If you have ever seen FBI Files or New Detectives, you will see the pattern in this case, that these are the kind of suspects that are ruled out fairly early. And if they aren't--they will gather SIGNIFICANTLY more compelling evidence before trying a case against them.
This was a very well edited and presented story with many twists and turns necessary to present so the viewer may have a proper grasp of the many parts to this complicated case. There are a number of crime channels, some better than others, but Just Thought Lounge (JTL) presents crime dramas in a way that compels the viewer to “really think.” And, as that is Kevin’s stated goal, he certainly accomplishes his goals with his videos. Much thanks to Kevin and the JTL team.
Here in the UK police have to conduct interviews according to the PACE rules (The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984) These were brought in after some truly appalling miscarriages of justice mainly resulting from police misbehaviour. PACE "makes it illegal for the police to mislead a suspect in order to make them believe that the police have evidence which they do not or that the evidence they have is stronger than it is, or that there is a possibility of leniency (for example in return for 'cooperation')" Now that all interviews are recorded I'm amazed that the police damaged their case against Jackson-Bolanos by blatantly lying to him.
I don't understand how slashing tires was considered as practice before hand... Like how would he even know if she lived alone, had a gun or other means to protect herself?... As someone who works in a mental health facility, I can honestly “buy” the ex boyfriend having a psychotic episode/paranoia. This case had plenty of "reasonable doubt"!!

This is the most intriguing case i have ever seen, and i have seen Alot of these on you tube. Congratulations on this.
Humm..why would Kevin leave this out.. thanks for sharing

Also, the murder was reported worldwide, but the trial was only covered in Detroit’s news only.
Even with the cherrypicked info that Kevin left in, it was obvious that Michael is innocent.
The differences of opinions in the comment section are reflective of why the jury couldn't convict.
Another excellent video. Very balanced and in depth. I love the niche that you have based your channel on, the not so straightforward conclusions.
The person who confessed first did it. As soon the other guy said he didn’t enter into someone’s home when the police lied and told him they had footage and he still said no he didn’t, I believed him. Sam opened the door to someone she trusted there were no signs of breaking in. Whoever she let in killed her and left.
This is such a well-put-together account of a very unfortunate event. JTL is so well done.
@bluechurch776. I just wrote the same thing 5 minutes ago. Crazy he got that sentence! Appears the judge let her personal feelings get involved.
So you think the thief just happened upon a dead body, touched it with his bare hands (per his own testimony) all by happenstance? Sorry but that seems absurd

I don't understand how that is legal but unfortunately it is.
Cops are allowed to lie.
They falsely claim that people failed the lie detector test 😂😂😂

It's common knowledge that police can tell porky pies during an interrogation. If you're innocent & they're telling you *lies,* if you're innocent, you know this is not true & would protest.
Excellent coverage, as always, Kevin. Stay safe and well.

The former boyfriend's mental health issues and delayed panic attacks in the aftermath of Sam's murder was just the wedge of ambiguity that the defendant needed to reinforce reasonable doubt into this case. 🤔

The Supreme court ruled long ago that the police are allowed to lie to a suspect as long as it doesn't extract a false confession 😮

@@christopherleebruceridiculous comment. Women do kill but they are overwhelmingly in more danger of being hurt and killed by men
Women aren’ the only ones who have been killed for something or nothing. Men and children have too, and it’s been happening for centuries on a daily basis.
💯
So this guy spends 5 hours a night breaking into peoples cars, stealing and slashing tires? Pos
agree!!!
doesn’t make him a murderer
Seems like a police coverup was in effect.
@@scroogemcduckrich9705so the blood???
A case with so many holes should not have gone to trial.
@@scaredoclock3881 agreed. On those shows they often feature cases that take several years to build enough evidence for trial.
I hope Jeff knows he had a cannabis induced psychosis and he should not smoke pot. Ever again.
He absolutely knows he's a murderer.
That’s a good thing, police are so corrupt here
I don't understand how slashing tires was considered as practice before hand...
Like how would he even know if she lived alone, had a gun or other means to protect herself?...
You don't just randomly decide to go stab someone without knowing any of those things...
IN MY OPINION, it's someone who knew her or her lifestyle...
Exactly!
Agree
Watching these videos really makes you think about being somewhere at the wrong time … you can be killed or convicted for simply being somewhere you shouldn’t
I also love watching your videos, there is no foul language, and you cover the material so well. I watch all yours, thanks Kevin👍
Excellent presentation of this case! Horrific story. Thanks for telling this story so thoroughly.
Captivating presentation. This channel is not for those who want definite answers and satisfying resolutions. JTL starkly mirrors the way things often unfold in the world. It can be quite troubling.
