The Word Bearers scene always gives me chills. When they were forced to watch Monarchia burn to the ground by the 13th at the Emperor's behest.

@@VashTS7 Yes. He forced the entire legion to their knees while he told them off. If they wanted a god they should know how it was to grovel before one.
By his will alone he forced an entire space marine legion to kneel!

Yup definitely one of the Emperors biggest mistakes imo (with the other one being not having either his custodes or the World Eaters legion help Angrons slave rebellion survive their final battle instead of just teleporting Angron up to his ship)

@@seankozlowski5316while I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about angron, Monarchia was kind of justified. The word bearers were breaking one of the core tenants of the imperial truth, slowing down the whole damn crusade to sow their little cults on all the newly compliant worlds, and if I remember correctly, also punishing the worlds that defied the teachings of the lectitio divinitatus. And the reaction once their little delusions were taken away from them, to doom humankind to endless war and unimaginable suffering, was a little unjustified to say the least.

The part when they are kneeling is an important milestone in 30k story.
The Word Bearers Legion, and their Primarch Lorgar Aurelian, were the first to worship the Emperor as a god. Angered by this, and after ordering them to cease multiple times, the Emperor ordered the Ultramarines and Roboute Guilliman to humble them. They razed Monarchia, the greatest city/cathedral/monument the Word Bearers had built in His honour, to the ground. And when Lorgar arrived to defend his city, the Emperor uttered a single word infused with all His psychic might. "Kneel".
There, they prostrated themselves in the ashes of their greatest show of devotion. Humiliated by the very being they worshipped as a god. God was real. And he hated them.
So yeah. That peeved them for a jiffy.

The beginning of the Part 2 - is the World Bearers kneeling on their home planet while the Emperor and the Ultramarines are wiping out the most sacred city (Monarchia) of the Word Bearers. The ash you see flying like a snow - that's all what left of the entire city and its people. This is the moment the Word Bearers turned away from the Imperium.

"17:00" these Ultramarines that were in the walls and ceiling most likely boarded the ship using teleportation, but without a “teleportation beacon” and teleported into the walls, after which they died in agony, which is why before teleportation the advanced boarding group usually sets up “beacons”
17:35 showing Traitor Space Marines without armor and without fibro-muscle layer
19:31 most likely, judging by the “butcher’s nails” in the traitor’s head, this is the “World Eaters”; they made an arena on the ship and are “having fun with the captured Ultramarines” and the ultramarine with one eye nailed to the wall apparently is like a captain or something like that, they don’t kill him and force him to watch his brothers die in the arena
22:54 this prisoner mutated under the influence of the warp, a Chaos ship after all))
P.S. :I’m trying to explain some points, maybe someone didn’t know and this information will be useful for you

    1. corpses on the outside of the ship are stuck there due to astartes magboots, giving a glimpse of the previous boarding assault fight on the hull.
    2. marines in floors and walls are due to either a blind, rushed, or warp interferenced teleport assault attempt.
-both of these make it seems like the fight was a last ditch effort assault just so they could potentially get a few men on board to sabotage or to break out and warn the next planet where ever they exit the warp from.
    3. blipping demons, old school bloodletter, and mutated mother/child are because there is no gellar field on while they're warp traveling (makes sense given they're wordbearers)
    4. dark mechanicus guy says there's an intruder messing around with the ship: either a surviving ultramarine or maybe that nightlord astartes perched over the pit (could be loyalist).
-more than likely the first since the guy in the cell asks the ultramarine if he's recovered after he finds out they're close to the next planet/about to exit warp, as if ready to spring their own plan.
    5. torso ultramarine over pit is probably the captured captain from part 2 that welcomed wordbearers onto planet; now being forced to watch his captured brothers fight/die in the pit.
-he has his imperial laurel nailed to his head, probably in mockery , and the ultramarine in the pit is wearing his while fighting with two "Macragge" ultramarine signature axes
    6. normal guy in cell is probably a captured ultramarine initiate based on his shoulder armor and dialogue with the world eater; "aspire to become one with the 13th legion".
    - also says he doesn't need to be modified to go toe to toe with the world eater, referring to either the gene seed needed to become an astartes or the butchers nails.
    7. same guy recognizes the ultramarine walking with the wordbearers and is in disbelief; astarte in next cell tells him its a wordbearer that's just wearing his armor; "a lie".
-at the end, you can see both the imprisoned astartes armor being worn by the wordbears and Nakal, as shells that they will "march onto the streets of neighboring worlds"
MK1 Terminator and gal vorbak were a great touch as well. Great animation.

In the early 2000s, before the first Horus Heresy novels were published or existed in any sense, the lore was advanced through the Index Astartes - First Founding articles in White Dwarf magazine. Index Astartes started with other topics, the creation of space marines, and the significance of Guilliman's book, the Codex Astartes. Then it covered marine chapters in the global interactive gaming and narrative event, the Third War for Armageddon. This tangent is worth noting because that's where the Helsreach novel is set. I could say way more lol, but maybe knowing that much could help you start your own explorations!
The next big Index Astartes series, indeed the biggest, was First Founding. While other features were scattered throughout, this one broke ground on each of the - ehem - 18 legions' lore and thus started filling in Crusade and Heresy details.
This added a lot of character to the legions, by adding, well, characters lol, but also through rivalries. This was the first taste of the rivalry with the Iron Warriors that suddenly made the Imperial Fists feel like more than yellow Ultramarines.
The feature covering Lorgar and the Word Bearers tells how the Emperor noted Lorgar's slow progress in the crusade, with the reproach that his purpose was battle, not faith.
In this version, Lorgar, stunned, locks himself away for a month, and just when big E is about to sort them out again, the Word Bearers begin crusading at a wild rate, so the Emperor gets back to other stuff. Unfortunately they were crusading like men possessed... because some literally might've been lol.
They were the first legion turned to Chaos and immediately sided with Horus when his own legion split from the Imperium. Then we're told Lorgar has the Word Bearers attack the Ultramarines - one of the largest and most successful legions - out of jealousy.
The war on Calth in Ultramar gets a few paragraphs here, but the Razing of Monarchia was a later plot development. Lorgar had the city of Monarchia dedicated to worshiping the Emperor, who himself had the Ultramarines raze it after a week of evacuations. This gives Lorgar way bigger motivations than jealousy. In my comment on your last video I hinted at some things Malcador had been through, and Lorgar slapped the ancient man several meters away at the Razing. That's when he called down the Emperor, who made the Word Bearers kneel with his psychic might and reproached Lorgar. After that, Lorgar was led to look for new powers to worship...
And you know roughly how that goes! I hope this finds you well :)

The Battle of Calth was a major battle of the Horus Heresy, in which the Word Bearers Traitor Legion attempted to exterminate the Ultramarines Legion, on the orders of Warmaster Horus, who anticipated that Guilliman, the Ultramarines' Primarch, would not join his rebellion against the Emperor. “ A man can be convinced to do anything, no matter how abhorrent, with the right motivation” - The Word Bearers First Chaplain Erebus -

    Fun actual fact:
The Astartes that where alive during the Great Crusade - Horus Heresy, many of them are still alive today, in both sides, but is most commonly known that the Astartes that fell to chaos are the oldest ones alive. Is very well known that when an chaos Astartes talk, the Loyalist do not understand and they simply say "they are speaking with the lenguage of the demons" or something like that but in reality, most probable, they are speaking their old mothertounge from a long forgotten and destroyed world, or simply they are speaking High Gothic but from 10.000+ years ago. Something like "Ye haveth sich death comegen to ye by me sword ye dumbkopf manner" so the 40k Astartes would say "Yo this dude speaking some Ohio no Skibidi Toilet, tried to rizz my gyatt with no fortnite".
At the end, the Ultramarine that is shown with the cuffs, isnt a normal Astartes, he is a Destroyer Astartes. In de ranks of the Astartes (old ones) there was a few specialties like heavy weapons, stealth, vehicles and so on, destoyers where the Astartes that used forbbiden weaponry like radiation based guns, toxic waste launchers, extreamly sticky flammers or freezing rays. This weapons where views as dishonorable and the Astartes that used them, aswel where viewed like that. Normaly the Astartes that used this weapons died because of them due to their sketchy nature. The one shown in the video is wrong tho, because destoyers always where depicted in black or with black accents to show their dishonor or shame.

    explanation for trailer 2:
the Emperor knew of the Chaos Gods and therefore forbid all religious worship, even (or especially) towards himself. The Word Bearers though, they saw him as a diety and build cathedrals/shrines in his honour on all their conquered worlds. Their "magnum opus" was monarchia, the perfect city. As the emperor knew of this, he sent the Ultramarins to exterminate Monarchia. Afterwards the Emperor ordered the entire Word Bearers legion to the ruins of Monarchia and forced them to kneel (through psychich power), while the Ultramarines stood before them. The Word Bearers then seeked someone who was worthy of their worship, and finally found the Chaos Gods.

The name or saying "Death of Hope" is representing what the imperium could have been with a united peaceful, functional and incredible logistical galaxy wide government, a hope of what could have been.
That is the death of hope, the death of what could have been.
As if Horus heresy never happen there would be peace and probably no Tyranids, Orks not being so rampant and chaos as we know would probably have died out or barely have any influence at all, with the emperors own webway project like the eldar has.
As this hope of what could have been will probably never return or happen ever again, as in the grim darkness there is only war.
Because of and ever since Horus started revolt against the emperor, the galaxy is now one of the most horrifying places to live with always constant war while people of the imperium live in one of the cruelest regimes ever without the emperors or primarchs guidance.
As the emperor sits upon the golden throne immobile and all loyal primarchs dying, disapearing or entering coma, until resently with Guilliman and Lion returning.
Then also hinted at that Horus heresy was so big and catastrohpic that it was the reason the horrible Tyranids came to the galaxy.
Among the fandom Horus Heresy is stated as one of the 3 most impactful/influential big events in warhammer story timeline.

If you're curious why the Dreadnaught said "What is this Heresy?!"
Is due to the fact that Dreadnaught's when they aren't active are in a form of stasis/sleep. So the last time the Dreadnaught was awake would be before the Horus Heresy. To his knowledge, he was about to go into battle against Xenos or Humans not under the Imperium. That's why he's so shocked when he sees its other Astartes he's going to be fighting.
To him, he can't understand it. He literally woke up, was told to go fight the enemy, stepped outside and saw the enemy and went "WTF?"

12:44 my educated guess on this would be the Ultramarines assaulted this ship in the void and the Word bearers translated into the warp forever trapping these souls on the hull of their ship and cursing them to forever relive their last agonizing moments.
13:27 Warp travel is possible via the use of a gellar field which makes a small field around a starship that is in reality so that the demons and other warp entities can not get through. It is not perfect though and there are leaks which usually result in minor demonic incurions aboard a ship or madness among other horrible things among crew members.
14:17 this is a bloodletter lesser demon of the blood god Khorne.
14:58 this is a good example of those failures in a gellar field I was talking about.
16:17 this is a copy and paste of the old terminator armour models from older additions of warhammer a very well done model.
17:48 this is not the ultramarines primarch - because his legion shares his genes many of them share traits with him like blonde hair you can actually see the black carapace on his body just under his skin if you look at his chest closely.
18:18 this is how the world eaters dealt with their prisoners and recruited you fight until dead and only the most capable warriors are given a chance to join the world eaters as they will only ever respect strength and combat ability
19:02 this is a flesh hound another lesser demon of Khorne.

Fun Actual Fact N°2 ('cause the first one was already long)
Black Templars is a Chapter from the Imperial Fists, as everyone knows, the second founding was made from regiments that where part of their original legion, but the Black Templars werent that, actualy they where Astartes that where shamed for their "fanatism" towards the Emperor, as you know the Emperer never wanted to be seen as a god and he spited religions, but some Astartes still didnt listen and viewed him as a god, in the case of the Imperial Fists, those who practice this "belifes" where regected from the lines of the Imperial Fists, their armor painted black, and all iconography that showed Imperial Fist ties where removed, this regiment of Misfists was lead by none other than the great Sigismund, who was the right hand of Rogal Dorn yet shamed for his decition to see the Emperor as god. When the Codex Astartes was created, the Fists let this regiment to exist, creating the Black Templars but they dont follow the Codex Astartes so they dont have succesor chapters and they arent 1000 Astartes, as the Codex says, the numbers can be any if they are in a crusade and as you know, their flag ship is called "Eternal Crusade.
Sadly Sigismund died by the hands of the Archenemy, now days the one " lead " the Black Templars is another great warrior, High Marshal Helbrecht.

Ultramarine are real heroes sure there are some individuals that are cruel, sure by lore they are a bit over used, sure other chapteres need love too (like ravenguard, deathwatch, and many others) but they are super humane, ti8ick i recomend you search up if you want lore on how Guileman met dante finaly, or say Dantioch story (it will make many cry, great story, if it wasnt for Dantioch we could have lost the lion and guilliman when heresy began, so many are waiting for his model this brother is a legend LEGEND an iron worrior who remained loyal and went against his father, and succeeded but it took all he had LEGEND I TELL YOU)

Every waking moment during the Great Crusade, the Emperor heard the cries of untold billions of humans begging to be saved from the horrors of the universe. He has only ever spoken of this to a trusted few- Malcador, Horus himself and a few others, including Lorgar.
Lorgar knew that any delays in the Great Crusade meant that countless worlds burned beneath the cruelty of aliens and oppressive regimes, worlds that the Emperor wanted saved and brought to the Imperium's banner.
Lorgar knew, but sought to keep his misguided worship of the Emperor as his highest priority.
In truth, the Emperor could care less what Lorgar did with his conquered worlds- so long as he kept his quota up. What happened next is subject to controversy and speculation, mostly on the part of the Ecclesiarchy.

Helsreach isn't as lore heavy as Death of Hope is. Death of hope was, as it said, for the true fans of the grim dark universe. Meant for Very Lore Heavy and educated viewers.
For you, Death of Hope was a spectacle of the really amazing graphics and detail that the artist Mark Louis Spark did. That content needs heavy explanation to understand what you just saw.
There is still loads and loads of little details that you catch in the Death of Hope Series at each rewatch. Granted, because of how dark the last episode is, I don't rewatch that one very much.
You will like Healsreach as its set in the 40K time frame and is actually a 40K Novel that was brought to life by the artist Richard Boylan. Richard was then hired by Games Workshop and then did the Angels of Death official series. You won't be buried in Lore like you were in Death of Hope. Your current 40K knowledge is more then enough for Healsreach.

This project's cancellation was the biggest HERESY in recent times, I say. Nothing else, official or fanmade, has ever captured the grimdark as well as this. Especially if you've read the books, this feels absolute gut churning.
Edit: so whats happening here is the ultramines have boarded a word bearers vessel with some world eaters on board as well (the sons of lorgar and angron as you read earlier), the boarding action was likely a last ditch effort and has mostly failed. Some of the ultramarines are still on board and causing problems on lower decks as the techpriest informs and is ordered to capture them alive. The traitors are stealing the captured ultramines' armour and preparing to launch an attack on an unsuspecting ultramarian world desguised as ultramines.

The whole deal about Horus Heresy is not a thing up for discussion, it was temper tantrums fueled by Chaos influence. How anyone can ever support them, or even just like their aesthetics, is beyond me. They are each and every one of them cringelords to the extremes. Monarchia was razed to the ground.. but it was a god damn city where the civilians were evacuated. It was their "God" telling them that they would all be spared (going against the whole "and he hated us" speech.. if he had he would have killed all), but that their worship would have to end. Being the pitiful shits that the Word Bearers are they immediately turned to a new daddy. Ultramarines took no joy in what they had to do, but Word Bearers certainly did.
