Fierce Edge vs Fury vs Rival: An owner's opinion (and if it's worth the $$$)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
- I own two different guns from Fierce. The Edge or Fury and the Rival have a lot in common, but the Rival has a more modern stock geometry but a Remington 700 action type.
At those price points I expect the fit and finish to be excellent.
If I bought that Fierce over the Springfield because of the weight and then it wasn’t as light as they claimed, I’d be pretty upset. And that chip in the stock is inexcusable.
I own three Fierce Edge, Edge TI and a Fury. They are exceptionally accurate. I had to send the TI back to the factory. It wouldn’t close the bolt properly or eject properly and dented the cartridges. They did fix it. The TriggerTech trigger is the best trigger out there. Soon everyone will be using them. Both the Fierce and TriggerTech are made in the True North.
I am from Quebec, Canada and have actualy talked with Fierce people at 2 occasions during hunting show events and my first impression was they don't seem to care much about their customers.... I felt like I was disturbing them rather then feel welcomed. So I never pulled the trigger on buying one of their rifle because of that.
I'm the same way man... It always surprises me the arrogance and shitty attitudes on some of these people. Whenever i sense that, i never buy that companies products.
His comparison about the cheek weld is not apples and apples. The Rival scope is mounted much lower to the gun than the Edge. Mount the scope lower and it should be fine.
Please post your honest opinions. Big boy here! No 6.5 CM
My take is, it’s always about service! If you get those types gut feelings for the price these builders ask, walk away! Theres to many builders out there that don’t have a crappy attitude and are hungry for business…& honestly make a better rifle!
Guess they didn't want to EARN your $2500,
James, glad you love your Fierce rifles! I've loved mine too. Shooters, flat out . . . shooters! I loved attending their shooting school, and every interaction I've had with them has been "Top Drawer." Say, I'll bet if John, Gage, or Courtney at Fierce knew you'd had the issues that you have, they'd make it right with you. These really are decent, morally driven men, and I've sure that, if given a chance, they'll come through for you. Give 'em a holler. Keep the great videos coming. Love your efforts at fairness and straight talk!
I appreciate Backfire, a family show, and a focus on best value for those of use who need to be a little careful with spending!
Great review, thank you.
My vote for waypoint 2020; fit, finish and the way it feels in hand is next level. It’s like holding your love close to the heart 😊
FYI. As an Mechanic for the USAF on aircraft. I can testify to issues with tolerances on parts and tools when useing titanium. Something about the inconsistency in the metal causes difficulty when being machined. I prefer to roll with steel actions due to my personal experience with titanium.
See it’s this kinda comments that make me stay traditional as well like light weight metal seems cool and all like the seeken aluminum action and steel bolt that’s a no for me
It's even better when you use an aluminum action with a steel insert.
I'm unsure if anyone else has commented this and I'm not gonna look, but on their website now it now shows the the Bix'n Andy triggers were recalled and new rifles will ship with a trigger-tech. All BA's are supposed to be returned for warranty replacement to a TT.
I ordered a Fierce Carbon Edge 6.5 PRC from their website about one year ago. 8 lbs with Burris 3-9 and lightweight one piece rings, shoot without using the brake. Feels a little barrel heavy. This is built on either an XM action or long action. I am a fan of three lug actions with the short bolt throw., and most important , the 3 position safety. (one reason why I didn't go Tikka). I felt it was as close to custom as I could get in factory rifle. I am a hunter who would never shoot an animal past 400 yards. But I wanted a rifle that I could take to the range and shoot longer. Edge rifles come with verified accuracy target. I can't shoot quite as good as that with my setup (3/4-1.0 moa) but its no knock on the brand. I like the stock, which is really light and fits well for hunting, though its noisy in brush if you're close to animals. Likes hornady factory ammo and semi custom barnes 127 lrx. Customer service experience was bumpy and I had to "Manage Up" to get them to communicate and get the gun that I ordered. Salesman wouldn't return repeated phone calls for clarification of order. Didn't appear to be very good internal communication within the company. Ended up receiving a gun in a box that didn't match my serial number and had the wrong stock. We got it done with some aggravation. If you buy one, either order one ready to ship from website of from a retail vendor.
My Fierce Edge fit and finish is flawless even under the action and it shoots a .56” 4 shot group at 250 yards with factory nosler partitions. I would think or hope that they would warranty that stock. Your first review on the Edge helped make my decision on buying it. I was trying to decide on between the Fierce or a Weatherby Backcountry in .280AI. If I would have seen this review I never would have bought the Fierce I’m glad this video wasn’t made at the time because this is the best rifle I’ve ever owned. It even out shoots my Sako and the action is way nicer and smoother even if it is a Sako 85 clone. I use the one piece Talley low bases and my cheek weld is perfect. I do love your videos and agree with others that you need to do a review of the Weatherby Backcountry 2.0 that’s probably going to be my next purchase. Thanks for the awesome reviews!
I know I am late, but would you recommend the fierce edge rifle? And can it shoot at longer ranges like 500 yards or 800 yards?
Yes I would recommend the fierce edge or the fury. And with the right bullet it would be fine out to 800 yards. Mine really likes everything nosler that I have tried. It shoots the hornady eld-x and interbond really good and federal trophy bonded tips when I reload. The only thing I have that it absolutely does not like is the factory federal terminal accents I would like to try reloading them to see if I can get them to shoot.
Thanks!!!
OK so no flame but had no idea you had a second channel and I've been a backfire subscriber since pretty much the beginning. You should mention it more, but now I've got more videos to binge watch lol. And this video is definitely worthy of backfire 1.
I agree just bought the way point in 6.5 cm and was shooting .5 groups at 100 but was considering the fierce rifle but the feel of the rifle was what sold me on the 2020 waypoint
Yesterday I had a good look at the Bergara B14 and the Fierce Rival both in 300 PRC. I liked the stock better on the Bergara. I liked the action WAY better on the Bergara. Both rifles are a two lug bolt, but the Bergara was much, much smoother and functioned way better than the Rival. And I most certainly liked the price of the Bergara better. I do not own a rifle built by either company, so I don't have a dog in ths fight. I do however, know (ish) three shooters who own Bergaras. They are extremely happy with them, and I've seen their groupings and they are certainly no worse than the groupings described here. I think I will wait awhile to see if their product, and/or price, improves. For what they want for their rifles, I think I'm going with a custom barreled action with a custom cut, competition grade barrel with a Triggertech tech diamond trigger from K.S. Arms for the same or less money way before I spend the money on a Fierce product.
I totally agree with the Limb Saver recoil pad. I bought my first 12 ga shotgun (Beretta 1013) and even though it was semi aut the recoil was tremendous. I really liked the shotgun but thought I would have to sell it as the recoil was brutal. After putting on the Limb Saver, the recoil was more than manageable with slugs and 000 buck shot, An incredible difference, and a recoil pad I am putting on all my rifles.
Thanks for the honesty in the review!
Fierce sells the Edge/Fury in the LR (long range) stock that is very similar to the Rival’s stock. Also the new Rage (released at Shot 2022) is the same action as the Edge/Fury with the Rival’s stock.
I just picked up a Twisted Rival in 300 win mag. Haven't had a chance to shoot it handles so well and just fits. Great review, thanks.
How are you liking it? I just picked up my twisted rival in 300 WSM but haven’t shot it yet. They had just come out with the adjustable cheek rest so I opted for that.
@@Justin-zs1ql I like mine a lot. My wife shot it this weekend and said it kicks less than her .25-06. She was able to shot about a 1.5" 4 shot group at 200 yards
@@purpleheartbowhunter Good to hear. Slob of a bear BTW, nicely done.
I went to a gun shop to put hands on rifles to decide for my next purchase. I got excited to see a Fierce on the shelf and asked to try it. I just laughed when I tried to work the bolt, because it was so bad and just kept jamming up.
I noticed this on a CT Rogue with Titanium Receiver at Bass Pro. The titanium receiver was dry with no oil and was very "Chattery / Sticky" running the bolt action. The Rogue Stainless Steel Receiver was also dry, but way smoother. I even told the salesman, they needed to lube both those actions up with oil because they felt horrible, especially the Titanium. I later went to another dealer and felt a CT Rival and Rogue with Titanium Receiver's which were well lubed up with oil and they ran just as smooth as the steel receivers. This time, I couldn't tell the difference in smoothness. I think I would go with the steel receiver even though it is slightly heavier and save $300 bucks. I bet you were running a Titanium receiver action, They are definitely "stickier/chattery" until well lubed and broken in. seems like this shouldn't be the case for the more expensive Titanium Action Receiver.
Wow, for $3,000, a rifle should be in perfect condition. Not a custom rifle but for that money.
My fierce rival came in horrible condition. Sent it back for a refund immediately. How something like that is able to get by their “quality control” is beyond comprehension
A good, balanced assessment. Thanks.
Did you complain to Fierce about the weight, trigger and finish? Did they do anything to either fix, replace or satisfy you?
Thanks for sharing.
I have a CT Rival on order since May 3rd. Last Wednesday they said it was ready to ship. Can’t say anything about the quality of the gun yet but the CS definitely needs work over there. I agree they could be a great company but they definitely need to be improving things. Knowing what I know now and seeing this video I would probably have gone elsewhere for my new gun had I seen this months ago.
Update. Finally shipped out two days ago. Not last week like they said. Found out the other day when I called to ask about it the built the wrong gun. Built me the Carbon Rival and not the CT I ordered. Buyer beware about the customer services there.
How is the gun?
@@cvhoway the gun is nice. No complaints on the gun. Test target had a 3 shot group at .223”. It’s capable of 1/4” moa with factory 212 eldx. It’s a 300prc if I didn’t mention it above. Great gun. Crap service.
Thank you for doing this review. I’m in the market for a high quality carbon rifle and I was really interested in Fierce. However, after seeing this I question if I’ll get Fierce. I won’t get Christianson either, for the same reasons.
The Springfield 2020 doesn’t offer in 7mm rem. And that sucks.
I was in the same thinking till id seen the rival. So disappointed Saved a bit more and got a gunwerks never looked back
@@johnnatoli9362 I just looked at Gun works, it was 10k. Am I missing something?
Have you had issues with your Rival? I bought mine, sent it back a week later and they rebarreled it. Now the extractor isn’t working and cases are getting stuck in the chamber. This sucks right, as it is the biggest expense I have ever spent on any piece of hunting equipment. I love the look and feel of the Rival, but have zero confidence in it this far
I would love to support Fierce Firearms, but when the specs, fit and finish are that far off -- I just go back to Tikka T3x Superlite. Less than 1/2 the cost and easily customizable with Bell & Carlson, Stocky or other stocks. Thanks for another great, honest review.
The Fierce website is a mess. It definitely needs to be updated and cleaned up. There are just so many issues there. I did notice they have a recall notice on the Bix'n Andy's trigger. That may explain why you got a Trigger Tech. Nevertheless, they need to be much better about communication. The finish on the Rival is unacceptable. That is just terrible for the price they are asking.
I like Fierce has a front rail on the stock. I wish more manufacturers would do this.
The trigger is an upgrade, but sounds like the web page needs to be updated in a much more timely manner. For the money you spent on the edge and how happy you are with it, I would see how they fix the rival you sent back.
Website also says CT Rival has 70 degree bolt throw. Website says same thing for edge and fury too. Thanks for showing the big difference.
Great review! I’d buy a Springfield 2020 today in 6.5prc if I could actually find it in stock.
I also did an online order and it took 17 months to complete. I had to call them so many times to see what was going on w my build. I can't find ammo so I haven't shot it yet. Honestly horrible customer service. I really want to look into the trigger because that was one reason I went with fierce over Christianson.
one option that never comes up, but is as good or better than any rifles listed are the PROOF elevation rifles. if you look around, they can be found for $2700-$2800 and are shooters!
Matt, where do I start looking around? Big fan of Proof Barrels.
@@ryanswanson1150 gunbroker and RedHawks rifles is a good place to start.
I’m thinkin I’m gonna grab the first proof 7mm PRC I can find.
What are your thoughts on the proof research Elevation MTR ?
With the fierce you could have mentioned the twisted rival which falls into the same price point as the fury. I got one in 28 nosler this year and couldn't be happier. It shoots unreal and recoil with their side discharge break is minimal. I had read into the rivals and had read that there was issues with the bix'n andy triggers that they were replacing them with the trigger tech. I have 2 Christensen's, a ridgeline and a traverse and love both but man I can see more rivals in the future.
I totally agree on the “construction dust” comment. I’ve had both a rival and an edge. Neither shot very well and fit and finish on both of them was lacking for what I paid. Very cool rifles but they aren’t great IMO
Thats why I like adjustable stocks. Even by season with what you wear, they fit different. Really want the Reaper 😁
How did the CT Rival shoot? I purchased a CT Rival in 6.5 PRC in November. I had the same issue with the sticky bolt seemed to catch on the back of the action. I shot factory Hornady 143 gn edlx and Nosler 120 gr ET ammo, both seemed hard to chamber and was getting pressure signs (extractor marks, hard bolt lift especially with the nosler ammo, and brass shavings on the bolt head). Emailed Fierce about the issues 6 weeks later waiting for a reply. Had my gun shop send the rifle back for repairs 3 weeks ago. I think the chamber is to tight or the reemer they used was worn out.
Backfire, love your content and objectivity. One thing I was going to mention is I don’t know why their customer service guy would’ve said the 6.5PRC would be lighter. If anything, I’d expect it to be on the heavier end. They make the barrels to a specific taper, but the bore diameter makes quite a bit of difference on weight, and since that one is relatively smaller, I would have actually expected it to be on the heavier end. I’ll bet if they chambered it in 300WSM for example (at the same barrel length as the PRC), it would probably be on the lighter end of that range. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Good point, but it’s also a short action and a shorter barrel length.
I think the seekins precision havak rifles would compare to the fierce riles. It would be a good test between them .
You would probably be better off going with Seekins….NO EXCUSE for the garbage Fierce is putting out for the price. And yea, I said ‘garbage’….chipped carbon fiber, obvious zero regard for pride in workmanship…and prices at this range and you don’t even get the actual parts the company touts on their website….to me, that is garbage.
@@rickmoss7040 Agree, I bought from both companies, Seekins customer service is WAAAAY better.
Watch bullets for bucks review on the seekins and the new fierce doesn’t even compare, Fierce is better
You’re way better off with seekins
This is somewhat old news now, but there was a trigger issue with the BixnAndy trigger that resulted in a recall. Any Rivals that shipped after that came with the Triggertech. My CT Rival in 300PRC came the same way.
Man thats disappointing !! Unfortunately in Australia we cant buy any cool aftermarket stuff for a Sako which was what i was hoping to achieve.
I wont be buying a Fierce. Appreciate your honest review.
and too far to send it back....
Excellent honest perspective 👍🏻👍🏻👌
My Hunting partner went with the CT Edge in 300 wsm. just like you said , little things here and they were bugging me. Accurate : Yes . But when Im looking at it and shooting it: for me : its a Sako dressed up: thats it !! unless you really want the name : Fierce and pay premium , just go Sako !!!
You pay a premium for features not offered by Sako. Not sure why that is such a problem for some.
Have you or can you do a video comparison of the 300 PRC rifles? I am looking at getting a 300 PRC for hunting and would like your opinion on which one would be the best.
I had the opposite experience. Bought a 7Mag carbon fury. Fit n finish great, accuracy terrible. After 100's of rounds fired costing 100's of $ in factory ammo and reloading components and hours upon hours trying to find a load that would shoot I gave up on it. Best group ever was .96"' everything else 1.25'-2+" completely unacceptable at this price point (2700$). Should've never left the shop shooting like that. Best part of the experience with this gun was the day I got my money back. CS hard to reach slow to reply. Patiently waiting on a Seekins PH2 at the moment.
This kind of story is all too common with Fierce. I just ordered my Seekins PH2 in 7 PRC. Can't wait!
I like the review. I am currently looking at other regional builders like best in west and I have a soft spot for Sako. Any chance you could compare with our utah gun makers?
Thanks this video helped me with my decision...I don't like that when it's written one thing and you get it's totally different.. that really bugs me..
Can you do a review on the Weatherby mark v carbon mark (pro/elite)
Ok, rescue me. I just had to return a new SAKO 85 because the receiver was canted. Heartbroken. I want a rifle that shoots as accurate as a Sako. Point me in the right direction please. What you had to say about the Fierce - I want a gun at that price point to have the proper fit and finish. Thanks for whatever advice you can give.
Great review video. One note is that 6lbs 4 ounces is indeed 6.25lbs. There are 16 ounces in a pound. I believe you stated the gun was 6.4lbs confusing ounces with percentages.
Very helpful video though, thanks.
I think his point was it should have been closer to the 5.8# mark.
I've also seen several companies post 7.12 pounds, and it actually means 7lbs 12 oz. Quite confusing
What’s better in 7prc, Fierce Rival or Proof research MTR.
I ordered the carbon rival steel action. I don't want a triggertech. Now I gotta call them and make sure it comes with bixn andy. I would ask them to swap yours. Unless it had a triggertech special and not the primary
(Little things like that) comes at a cost. Sounds like a heck of a rifle for the cost. Once you get into the “little” perfection details cost go really up
Not surprised about the trigger tech “issue” lot of companies substituting what’s available with supply chain issues since 2020
Have a fury in 6.5 Creedmoor and it's a tac driver and I love it. Also have a 28 Nosler that has never been shot and it's for sale. Not going on an Elk hunt.
This video just made me make up my mind ,,,,,,, I’m never buying a fierce ! Thanks 🙏
Ca vs bergara vs proof vs fierce for cf?
Nice video sweet hunting tools. When is the savage impulse coming into the stockpile?
They’re charging way too much to have that quality of work.
I’d love to own a Springfield 20/20 Way Point, a Fierce Edge or any rifle with the same accuracy, features and price range, but most are not offered in a left hand action. Do you know of any rifle with all of the Springfield 20/20 Way Point or Fierce’s features, accuracy & cost that is available in a LH action? Keep up your great videos!
I have a feeling that sticking is partly due to the action being titanium.
I'm sure it is a part of it, but not all titanium actions are this sticky.
@@BackfireVLOGS has it loosened up at this point (I assume you have broken it in), or is it still sticky?
My Fierce Carbon Rival is flawless. 7 Rem mag 24 inch barrel. Weight and trigger as advertised
Thank you, Backfire 2. If I may ask another question, would you kindly let me know what you're using to clean and Lubricate your shotgun? I've been recommended M Pro 7 cleaner and M Pro 7 oil, but have been cleaning my Firearms with CLP break free for many years. Just wondering what you think.
I looked at a 300PRC Rival here in Australia. The bolt fit felt slack and overall finish was not perfect..... At $6.5K -$7.5K price point it didn't impress me, so I handed it back an built a custom instead.
I have a gunwerks action and I bet it will get stuck if I wiggle the bolt back and forth like you did😂🤦🏽♂️
I bought one but after watching your video I returned it unfired to my gun dealer, exchanged for a Sako
Jesus... based on the fit/finish and it not coming with the trigger they say it should, I’d never buy one. That stock is in horrible shape for a brand new gun and they should send you a new one. A gunsmith making you a rifle wouldn’t give you that.
Also my Bergaras have a smoother action that the Rival from what it sounds like! They don’t stall/ jam with a little angular force while working the bolt.
James, I've had the Rival on my short list as a possible purchase, do you plan to ever update us on what the end result of this rifle was? Would love to hear what the outcome was!!!
I would prefer the 3 lug action of the Edge and Fury but like the stock on the Rival better.
Just found your second channel, great, for what your paying some of the workmanship looks pretty amateurish to me. My eight-year-old son would do better I'm sure. Lately, it seems you have been on a weight binge with your rifles...being I'm older than dirt and back in the day there were no composite stocks, a few ounces of weight is the last thing on my mind when I reach for a rifle..suitable function and accuracy are whats important to me. Unlike younger folks, I will not own a composite stock... Wood has been fine for over 70 years. I do agree about the 2020 Waypoint, except for caliber offerings it is IMHO the best new rifle on the market...and I would buy the stock one, non-adjustable stock, and stainless barrel.
I haven’t found really good pictures of the Rival action. I’m wondering if the bolt shroud is the full diameter of the action, in order to redirect gas to 90 degrees if you had a case failure?
Actually had that happen to me once, the results weren’t fun.
I’m thinking the Edge has a full diameter shroud, looks like it in the pictures….
So i am looking at the rival ct fp in 7prc with a 20” barrel. What would be your best guess on weight?
Remington action better than Sako. Never
Great video as always! Is that the midnight colour stock? Also, does anyone know the stock finish quality difference between the Canadian compared to US models? Cheers! Just bought the Twisted Rival 6.5prc
My thing is why spend $2500 on a raffle when you can buy a $900 Tikka and shoot just as accurate?
thanks for the review. What is the mag length on the Rival 6.5 PRC? I am asking b/c lots of 6.5 PRC rifles are built with 700 SA length magazine which with some mod can get the SAAMI spec but do not provide the flexibility to shoot the 150s bullets.
no way i woulda accepted that rival at the FFL with that chunk outta the stock on a $2800 rifle....QC obviously not there that shoulda never left and been sold as blemished
More likely shipping damage and not the fault of the company.
Great video, but curious which rifle you would choose if you add the Springfield 2020 and the Beraga into the mix. What is your opinion on choosing one of these to add to an aftermarket chassis so you and remove or swing the buttock to save space so you can have a smaller travel case?
In a 7MM mag
Just saw Springfield 2020 does.not offer a 7MM Mag... so the Bergara or one of the Fierce?
looking at Antler Arms as an option, unfortunately the cartridge offerings are not ideal.
Mr. Backfire 2, Can you please give me the name of a reputable Gunsmith that can flute the barrel of my rifle for $100. I have about 400 rifles that I would like to send him. I will be sure to mention to him that you referred me.
If you think about the barrel the 6.5 is smaller bore leaving more metal on the barrel then the 30 cal.
I wish firearm website would let us know these informations too
I'd be interested in your opinion on Cooper rifles.
Well the 6.5 has more barrel weight then the 300. Right? take 1 inch chunk of cold role drill 1/4 inch hole threw it then drill a 1/2 inch hole threw it with one is lighter?
Have you looked at the Thompson center performance center lrr (I’m considering one, a little heavy but looks like a good budget precision rifle)
I would think in 2 years from this video they have refined all that stuff would like to Buy one but at that high a price i would expect excellent quality
how's about Weatherby mark v, I think weatherby is the best to me!!!
The edge is the only one to buy I purchased the rival it was in terrible condition and I had to send it back to the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with.
Fierce 22 Creedmoor or vandal x 22 creedmoor ?? @backfiretv
Fierce has a massive sale at Cabela’s right now.
ive always said the remington 700 action shit! Id rather stay with my $1000 Tikka and have the same accuracy and a better action than pay $6500 for an action that was designed for cavemen over 2 centuries ago.
How does the fierce compare to the bergara in the same price range.
FIERCE MAYHEM?!?!? any knowledge, experience, comments, opinions???? $800 seems pretty cheap for semi especially from Fierce
Do they have swivel studs or sling qd’s?
So get a neoprene style cheek pad. Put on the Edge esp if your going to get the barrel fluted anyway.
Have you reviewed the cva cascade ?
On Rokslide there's been several extremely bad reviews on these rifles. Especially on customer service.
The mossberg patriot I have in a 270 win and 243 wìn they both shoot between 1/2 to 3/4 with vortex optics any day you would ev er like to compare for a fee since you think mossbergs are inferior let me know like your you channeĺ
