Dimash's version of "Hello", arranged by fellow Kazakh and friend Erlan Bekchurin, was brilliant. I speak as someone who listened to and loved the original when it first came out. There will always be some people that have trouble liking a creative approach to a song that they love.
Dimash's singing on the first two verses was close to the original and if he had finished off the song that way I would still have loved it. He sang it so beautifully and meaningfully that I was very affected by it. His crazy riffs and held notes at the end are what some people look for in a Dimash performance but those are just extras for me.

I loved that one... he respected the iconic song but he still managed to make it his own. I personally wouldn’t like it if he changed it too much... so I think he did a great job. The 1st one you reacted to with the gymnasts was in Russia and this one was in China.
Which is sorta dumb cuz he's a God of singing he embarrasses the original singers he changes them enough it doesn't happen! But oh well this is much better than original my opinion!
This was part of the opening ceremonies for the very first Hainan Film Festival. Dimash would have had to get approval for both the song AND the arrangement from the Festival executives and I suspect they would have preferred what he did here rather than a riskier original interpretation.
It's probably what the audience would have expected as well: a beautifully sung, classy interpretation of a popular movie song. An arrangement like what he did for "Hello" or "Sinful Passion", as awesome as they were, would have been out of place.
