Hugo L. It’s because of electricity costs. When I got my first “nano” tank, tropical based, the same happened to me. It started with the lights being switched off, eventually the heater and then the filter. I had so many arguments till eventually I just gave up. I ended up losing my fishies 1 by 1. It was sad. It also wasn’t a very good setup as I had plastic decor and coloured gravel.. yes I know kill me now... but it was mostly because of my dad who went to the shop at the time with me to get the fish tank. Mind you I payed for everything with my own money but I couldn’t even choose the fishes. My dad overstocked it when I only wanted a school of small fish. He did it while I was at school and got home to find a pleco and 2 angel fish. The fish tank only held 26L of water. It wasn’t even properly cycled yet. My parents never listened to me. The only reason why at that time I was so picky with what I wanted inside it was because I got inspired with my friends huge salt water tank. It was beautiful. So many corals. I wanted to recreate the same. Not a plastic box. Now I’m all grown up and pay my own electricity and I have a big momma fish tank full of live plants half sand half “soil” Mwahahaha Edit: oh gosh, I also reminded myself that I told them how a water change is done and apparently I was super wrong. My parents made me empty nearly all the water from the fish tank and had me scrub decorations with fairy liquid. And then refill it with water from the tap. I wish I would have been smart enough at that time to go to UA-cam or something and search about fish care to show them. (Maybe at the time there wasn’t fish videos on UA-cam I don’t even know!) Yeah.. that tropica aquasoil gave me real bad brown algae. It was thread diatom, really soft and very slimy when removed. It was still there a year after set up, and I change my water once a week, 50%. Recently gave up and changed it to dirted organic soil capped with sand, the problem disappeared. Green aqua has an algae guide page that i'd rly recommend. Apparently brown diatoms in low tech tanks and are a result of low light, high silicates or poor water quality.
My old betta got along well with my shrimp. She acknowledged that the shrimp were there and she would follow them around and stuff but she never lunged at them to try and eat them. She was just curious. She murdered my mystery snail though.

I know this is one of your old videos (got here searching for pearl grass) but geez you are right about the betta shrimp combo!! My old betta was so placid and didn’t touch the shrimp. My new guy was vicious and ate 10 shrimp in 30min before I scooped him out!! Never again 🤦🏼♀️
Picked up a bundle of Java fern at my lfs yesterday for the planted Molly tank I'm setting up to replace my goldfish who passed last week. I've had my Betta in a 20g with 6 Darwin algae shrimp, 5 pygmy corydoras and 4 little nerite snails. Lots of plants. No murder yet. (~3 weeks together)
Great video! After watching your videos I wanted to add a carpeting plant to my new tank. I went to my LFS and was suggested a hydrocotyl “Japan” mat. It hasn’t carpeted much so I’ll try doing the clippings like you did! I’m also really enjoying the vlogs!
Another good carpeting plant? I was thinking Eleocharis parvula mini, Cryptocoryne parva, Cryptocoryne walkeri "Hobbit" or maybe dearf sag. I was thinking maybe a mix of different carpet plants to get different textures. Tank is dirted, around 30 L, 30cm cube.
I feel you with the betta aggression. Bought some pygmy corys for my 10 gallon and the A-hole chased them all until two went belly up out of stress. Cant be mad at him, my fault, not worth it just for an impulse buy.
If those goldfish are full grown that tank sent in by Milica might actually be a 20-30 gallon. If those are 6-8 inch max size goldfish that could totally be a 2+ foot tank. If they're still juveniles yeah they will outgrow it.

Hey Chris, I have a question. I am redoing my 5 gallon betta tank, do you have a suggestion for a plant that I can use as a background for the tank?
Silicon is the most abundant element in the terrestrial cortex, so silicates are mostly everywere...
