I am a high school student who has been taking ceramics in school 3 years, as well as learning at my studio at home. I am incredible devoted and committed to my ceramics work, and it feels like a passion now. You are my biggest inspiration in this craft, and I have learned and grown so much because of your videos. I have actually been able to sell some of my work, and I feel like I am constantly learning every single day. Thank you for the high quality content and knowledge that you have been sharing.
These videos are making me want to try porcelain again, when I was learning, I did a bit and I hated it, but when I see the beuty you can get from it, it really makes me want to hop onto clayking and buy some porcelain.
But the end is the best bit! There's always a little ASMR moment. My favourite is when we hear the crackling of the pieces just after the oven is opened :D
I always make it to the end of every one of your videos. It is always nice to see your works come to fruition in the end, and I appreciate the tips you share in every video. I picked up wheel throwing for an art project that I had to do before I graduated high school, and you have helped me so much through my observations and your tips. I am still fairly new to ceramics, but the art teachers were very impressed by what I could do despite my disability (I was dubbed the first "one-armed potter" at my high school). Regardless of my inexperience, I am willing better my abilities through every bit of knowledge and experience that I can get, and you are one of my primary sources of knowledge. Thank you for everything and keep up the great work!
I have greatly appreciated the porcelain content as I have just recently started throwing porcelain. It has been very helpful. Thank you. And I like the second bowl better
These videos are my favorite ones to relax and fall asleep to. I can hear every word and evert touch of the clay without having to crank the volume way up.
By watching your videos I have a much deeper appreciation gor handmade things even though I am a maker myself. Thank you so much for introducing me to such wonderful form of art 🖤
I know you did a video on reclaiming your stoneware, but I'd love to see you also do it with porcelain, even if it's exactly the same. I really like the way the clay looks, how it catches light so differently from the stoneware.
@@floriangadsby I appreciate all that you show us and the production value of your videos! I have severe anxiety and your videos have been a survival tool for my second year of medical school. Thank you again. :)
I have found your channel pretty recently and have enjoyed every minute! I love your style of throwing and I have learned so much in the short time I have followed you (maybe a month) and I have been able to improve my own pottery quite a lot for tips that you share. Thank you so much :)
I have been struggling with throwing on the wheel for the months I have been in a ceramics class but after watching your instructions I made a flower pot (almost). GOAT
I've watched it till the very end! Thanks a lot for your videos, I find them very useful and beautiful at the same time. Perfectly narrated too. I do have a question/request: can you make a video about clay recycle process? How and where do you dry it out? How much time does it take? How do you store the clay that came from the manufacturer and wasn't used yet? What do you with the clay that has dried out?
Love all your videos. So informational and filled with beautiful pieces. I am pretty new to pottery but love every minute and hope to set up a home studio soon. My daughter loves it too! I always make it to the end too!
Thanks for posting this video. If I may ask about your trimming tools: Referencing the first bowl trimmed in the video, What is the name or brand of the first AND last tool you used, please? I don’t recall having seen either before and thus, am intrigued. Thank you.
All the instructions and tips these videos are packed with keep calmly permeating my newbie mind. So grateful and pleased! Both at 8:10 and particularly 12:36 there are two tools I'd like to check out (I can't identify the name you mentioned). Can anyone help out please?
At 8:10 is a trimmer made by Jaejun Lee leejaejun.com/HOME and the one at 12:36 is one made by Phil Poburka, bisonstudios.com Both aren't available all the time. They open their shops sporadically and you have to be waiting, ready to purchase. Fantastic tools though.
Thanks Clarence! It moves less that's for sure but I'm a sucker for tall foot rings regardless, that being said, when I use this black glaze next it's going on thicker so the groove could still be useful yet.
Turned my first porcelain pieces today, such a pleasure to work with - amazing buttery texture, you feel you can turn it to within a few mm of the available width. And sometimes beyond... vase is now beaker....oops...
Would you say there is a significant difference between porcelain and porcelain substitutes? I know that quite often the substitutes aren't translucent, but is there a tactile difference, and does it throw very differently?
I can't say I have enough experience with porcelain substitutes to really answer that. I'd imagine they're easier to throw and won't punish poor craftsmanship quite so much but I've only ever used a few porcelains and a grogged variant, which was quite nice to use. Perhaps someone else reading might be able to answer your question in more detail. Thanks for watching!
What is the small spade-shaped solid tool that makes an appearance about 7.50? I can never seem to find the right tool to make a crisp corner between the foot ring and outside curve. It doesn't look like a Bison of which I have several and adore. Apologies if you already said somewhere. I very much appreciate your helpful videos and hope to see your work in person someday.
I just clean it really well 😬 I don't worry so much when going from porcelain to stoneware, as the porcelain just sort of blends into the iron red clay but when I go from stoneware to porcelain I give the place a much more thorough clean.
So, I'm buying a wheel. Super excited, but I don't have a kiln, so I figured that I will just pit fire them. I want them to be usable, to drink and eat off of, what type of clay do you guys think is best?
Have you had to fire your porcelain pieces any differently? I go to a studio that does come 10 and they cater more towards stoneware. I notice a lot of warping on my thin porcelain pieces :/
This makes me wish I could've tried porcelain before the wet clay work ended this semester, although I'm not even sure if my school has any... They did have a wedging table and extruder specifically for porcelain, so you probably have to ask to use it. That, or bring your own A lil edit: I usually watch until the end of the video, they're enjoyable and informative
The sound of unglazed porcelin...i wonder if anyone has made a bell out of it, im going to go check, also the sound of the glaze settling after being fired, its like borax in a crucible, little tiny cracking sounds its mezmerizing.
Some are Bison turning tools, others are made by Jaejun Lee. Throwing tools are really just a mixture of things collected over the years from various pottery suppliers.

lovely work as always. What do you do with your blunt tools? Do you sharpen, or just replace them?
made it to the end, and I love your videos! I’ve been watching before bed, your narration is so great!
You are the very great artist😊☺
Always a pleasure
Thanks for making this kind of videos! can you recommend a good wheel for beginners ?
I indeed watched till the end. Is the excess material recyclable into new pots?
It is! Everything that’s trimmed away can be thrown into new pots eventually.
Would love to see how these turned out with the glazes!!

Is the weight different from throwing bowls in stoneware? Less or more or the same when using porcelain? Thanks.

Absolutely awesome! Is the groove still necessary with the black glaze? I would assume it might run a bit less then a snowflack crackle.

Knife makers are missing a niche here with trimming tools with high end steels
All I can say is there certainly is a market for them that isn’t being filled.

When not fit for fire, crumple
So sculpturally
No firing 😥
