As an artist with ADHD, I find myself often enamored by other mediums. I see people work them, and I get a deep longing to work with them too. In some ways, your videos really help to scratch that itch when it comes to pottery. I get to watch the whole process, see the shaping and the slow certainty of the finished piece coming through. I still want to work at least a bit on a wheel someday, because I like working with my hands and I'll always be interested in trying things as the only truth I have is that I love to *create,* but I think art like this, that documents as much as it teaches, is really helpful too.

I've been watching for a couple of weeks now and I personally think your work is truly fascinating. The way you speak so passionately about your work and the pots makes it all very exciting and though I've never worked with clay before (except for those errants elementary school clay projects), but seeing your work makes me want to go to some pottery classes. I see that the videos are a very small part of what goes into your work (just thinking about all the designng and thought that goes before a piece is thrown is mind-blowing). I am very excited to see some of those porcelain pieces glazed and fired, and see how they are different from your other pieces. These ones made by Jaejun Lee really are! I have cut my fingertips accidentally with them in the past, deadly, lethal, that's what I want in a trimming tool!

I'm with you, porcelain is so difficult to throw. I've made some smaller pots but it really makes one feel like a beginner until you get used to it's unique characteristics. Also nearly all my pots cracked. Think I'll stick to stoneware. Happy Throwing. 😁
Absolutely gorgeous work. In addition to the skill level of throwing and trimming I am also impressed by how immaculate you are able to keep your surfaces in order to avoid contamination between the stoneware and porcelain. Possibly an underrated skillset. 😄
Thank you! Haha, yes, well, I'm perhaps a little bit of a neat freak in the studio... I certainly won't touch the red stoneware whilst porcelain work is being made. Cleaning all my tools to swap between them was a nightmare, I even started considering a whole other set of everything just to use for porcelain 😬

If I would ever be a potter again, I would love to work with porcelane again, I found it the most difficult but most wonderfull material to work with.. it has such a strong memory and want to go back in original state more then any other clay, but its soooo soft and beautiful !!!

I’m now having a good, slightly maniacal laugh of relief (and awe). Sigh. I’m curious: Do you find that you trim more porcelain from the pots than when you’re using stoneware?

Wow those look nice, I'm fascinated by porcelain but am scared to try it, especially since I'm still a beginner with stoneware clay. I can't wait to see how these jars look when fired and with glazes on them
Cheers! It's a lovely material although it does need to be treated differently compared to stoneware. Nothing major but you to tweak a few specific things in your throwing/trimming process. My tutor in college would say it isn't for beginners but don't let that put you off. Try it out and see!
Hi there very beautiful n well described, I just want to ask you a question if you can reply, I have a mini wheel I want to use porcelain clay on it for throw mini pottery vases or bowls etc, I don’t have kiln I wana use it because of its smooth buttery texture to make thin neck vases and also fat bottom vases, if I use porcelain clay and make mini pottery and after its dried I paint it with acrylic or ceramic colors follow be gloss varnish will the porcelain pottery stay stable since I don’t have kiln so I won’t be able to fire it, I just wana showcase it and put on the rack for decoration ie mini porcelain pottery, plx advise if it will remain solid this way I mean porcelain pottery and I don’t mind even if it won’t be functional plx reply thanks alot
As long as it doesn't get wet it should be fine... although very fragile. Ultimately you need a kiln to turn clay to ceramic but as long as no one touches it or fills it with water, it'll be fine 😬

I'm curious about your reclaim bucket. There is a bit of plastic hose leading into it? where does the hose come from? I'm always on the lookout for a better way to organize some of the processes in my studio.
Looking at that hose, it appears to be a drain from his wheel's splash pan. Since he does production work, ie makes lots of stuff in one sitting, his pan probably would need to be bailed out before he was halfway through his work. The drain means he can do more work before he has to stop to clean out the pan. Just a guess.
Great video! Can I ask, why did you choose Audrey Blackman porcelain as opposed to other types of porcelain? Any particular characteristics of this porcelain that you were looking for? I'm asking because I tried it but didn't like it. I prefer Ming porcelain, and have now started using Glacier.
Thanks for watching! No reason really, a friend recommended it but I've also used Ming in the past although at this point I couldn't say which I prefer. When I begin making again in the new year I might order a few different bags of porcelain and do some tests, could make an interesting video. Audrey is lovely and smooth but it's finicky and quite difficult to throw with I think. I've heard lots about Glacier!
@@floriangadsby I love Ming because it's whiter and easier to shape. Audrey Blackman was originally formulated for figurines, and I find it a bit unwieldy. Glacier is softer and I'm learning to deal with it, but hopefully will be nice and translucent once fired high enough. Looking forward to more porcelain videos! Great job!!
He does a few releases a year I think. Your best bet is to get in touch with him directly. I think if there's enough demand he'll spend some time making them for people. Fantastic tools!
Hello, it’s really good video on porcelain exploration. I have two things if you can demonstrate by making video. One porcelain is very plastic kind of clay and it get hard to pull evenly. I noticed sometimes it’s more on the top and bottom and mid is thin. How to avoid it. Second May you please show glazing and firing results on porcelain. Specifically if you are doing transparent glaze. I noticed other glazes I apply don’t crack or deshape the rim or body but the transparent glaze does so in some of my works.
do you fire these at a diff parameter? i use porcelain at a studio that mostly deals with stoneware. I've had a lot of my pieces warp because of the high cone 10 firing. curious to hear what your experience has been. thanks in advance!
The grog in the stoneware can chip the blades and the texture is enough to cause the tools to chatter, which is when they jump and create texture on the pots.

every porcelain i have used has been sof as warm butter off the block... i have never had stiff porcelain
If you do not make the lip on the jar, the lid might sit flush. Just a thought not a criticism. I think your work is excellent
