    LYRICS
    I know it’s been a long time comin’
    Since I saw your face
    It’s been so long since we’re together,
    In the back seat of your car
    Ooo, oh
    You used to be my girl
    Hold me close ‘cause I remember,
    How could I forget
    {Chorus}
    No Erasin’
    I’ve felt this once before
    No Erasin’
    No runnin’ anymore
    My soul’s burnin’,
    Just like it was before
    No Erasin’
    Our love just won’t let go
    Oh…
    Summer nights in sweet surrender
    Underneath the stars
    One more time we’re here together
    In the back seat of your car
    You used to be my girl
    Hold me close ‘cause I remember
    How could I forget
    {Chorus}
    {Bridge}
    Told you of my love today
    Rain comin’ down
    You laughed with me and sheltered me and
    (Turned me on)
    You won’t see me, you won’t see how
    (Ya done me wrong)
    Ya done me wrong, and you won’t try
    No Erasin’
    I felt this once before
    No Erasin’
    No runnin’ anymore
    My soul’s burnin’
    Just like it was before
    No Erasin’
    This love won’t let go
    I told you of my love today
    Rain comin’ down
    You laughed with me and sheltered me and
    Turned me on

    I'm a 54 year old black man crying tears of pure joy. My ears didn't miss Steve Perrys voice,my soul did. Talk about light in the darkness. I feel there's hope for humanity again. I'm so grateful for you what Arnel Pineda gave to us over the last 10 years or so,I truly am grateful. Only now did I recognize that he satisfied my ears,but fell short of soothing my soul. Let me thank Steve Augeri as well...job well done. Let me be clear Steve A. And Arnel are two of the most amazing voice on earth. But Steve Perry voice is truly heaven sent. I've been waiting soooo long to say this...Wecome Back Steve!🤷🏾‍♂️👍🏾🐬

      Yea if I hear one more person say his voice is shot, I am going on a rampage, Its a liitle more smokey but he sounds more Motown with it. My fav white singers are Jimmy Barnes, Steve, and Paul Rogers there are no better white singers in the world. I don't count the Buckley or the great Cornell we have sadly lost them.

      @@matthewburrows4359 his voice is still perfect in my eyes… Especially considering how other elite singers have degraded over the years… The fact it's still incredibly pleasant to listen to and he can definitely still hit the high notes… He just straight up has a natural talent that can not be matched at this point. Anybody that says his voice is "shot" doesn't have a grip on reality… But then again there are also people that vote for Donald Trump to lead our great nation… So yeah.

      Paloma 1003 eh. I want a greatest hits tour. That's all. This is horrible and nobodybis going to buy this or play it on the radio. Just luke madonna, prince, janet, cher, hell anyone over 40. It has nothing to do with my feelings. This is just facts. People around him just kiss his ass and lie to him. A greatest hit reunion tour would easily top q billion dollars and maybe be the highest grossing tour of all time. Madonna and U2 and stones hold almost every spot on that list so its literally theirs for the taking. Im sure tbey would let him do a few of his new songs like the rest do. However he will get his feelings hurt bc that will be bathroom and beer run time. Just like at aerosmith and already mentioned artist.

  • @SamsaraSings
    @SamsaraSings 5 років тому +75

    I first heard this incredible voice when I was 15 years old in 1980. I was visiting the US and my cousin introduced me to the Departure album. I went nuts! I knew it was a rocking Sam Cooke. My Dad (an Irishman born in the 1920s and a GREAT musician) had introduced me to Sam Cooke when I was a baby. I got on the phone with Dad that night. He was in Ireland. I played Steve Perry's voice for him over that bad phone line. Daddy went nuts and couldn't wait for me to get back and hear the album. When I got back to Ireland, Daddy had soundproofed my room so we could play the album really loud, learn the tracks and I could sing them. We spent the rest of the summer doing just that, in Heaven! Unfortunately, that October, Daddy died suddenly.
    I've never stopped LOVING this voice ever since. It has influenced my singing and my life. It has comforted me in times of great sorrow. To me, there is NO greater singer in the world. From the unique diction, the placement of notes to bring emotion, and the sheer musical intelligence -- it's just mind blowing. I always hoped he'd make some more music. I'm so sorry he had to lose the love of his life in order to get his love of music back. But, I am sure she is very very proud.
    I doubt he is actually going to read all these comments, but I sure hope his people tell him just how much he is loved and just how much this means to all of us who have waited so long to hear him again. I've been floating on air now for 3 days listening to this. I just can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
    You know, I was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumour that almost killed me almost 3 years ago now. Now I know why I had to survive it. God knew he couldn't take me to Heaven with Steve Perry releasing a new album! I'd have been terrible to deal with! And Steve has given me back my love of music which I lost at some point last year.
    Steve, we love you. Thank you. This is awesome. Keep them coming! It's like seeing an old friend you thought you lost years ago and when you do, that friendship is even better.

      Apparently, you haven't listened to the 3 albums Journey made before Perry or the 4 after him. All of it is high quality music. Journey is a team effort. The real core of the band is Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain; in the beginning, it was Schon and Greg Rolie. And let's not forget bassist Ross Valory and the 2 fantastic drummers, Aynsley Dunbar and Steve Smith. I get tired of people ignorantly putting Perry on this pedestal like he created the band and wrote all the songs. Cain had written "Don't Stop Believin'" before he joined the band.

    • @Faltor895
      @Faltor895 11 місяців тому +1

      No, Cain had started it, but Perry had a lot of input. Perry had two songs from this album that charted, Journey with their most recent album Freedom had 0.

    As a man, it's hard to admit tears are running down my face right now. Hearing Steve and hearing this song is like a longtime friend that has returned. I'm in my mid 50's and this world is changing faster and in ways that I don't always care for. I know I sound like a cliche but it'll happen to you too. I don't understand why things are the way they are now. The world of my youth seems so far away... the United States is starting to be unrecognizable to me anymore. Hearing this song is like taking a walk down a long country road. It's like holding hands with my fiance at the Country Fair. There's something pure about it. Something right.

    “I would not come back to it now unless I could be absolutely emotionally honest about the music,” Perry explains. “I’m not trying to top what I’ve done in the past, or better anyone or anything. That stuff doesn’t matter to me now. In a way, it’s this simple: when I had something to say again, I said it. All I’m trying to do now is make music that really matters to me and I hope maybe will really matter to other people too.”. S.P.

    If you are viewing this, you are most likely a longtime fan of Perry and his work with Journey as well as solo projects. I have heard some talk bout the change in his voice. I have been a touring keyboard player for over 2 decades, and have played with some of the most iconic figures in music. I’m not saying this to brag, what I AM saying is that his voice has held up amazingly well. When you have one of if not THE most recognizable sound of a generation, it is inevitable that you will be compared to your earlier recordings. Especially when those recordings are among the most classic songs of the period. It is unfair to hold Steve up to that standard. We don’t criticize athletes for losing a step or two in their later years, we don’t harshly criticize writers and producers of both music and movies/TV because they don’t consistently release content that stands up to their most popular and artistically significant works. So it saddens me to hear and read comments about Steve not sounding the same as he did 30 years ago. I believe that the essence of his sound has not changed. I believe that what makes him the greatest of a generation is his ability to emote, phrase, interpret, write, and perform from his soul. This IS Steve Perry, and it is every bit as good as any of us could have hoped for. I thank him, his musicians, producers, writers, etc for releasing this wonderful new music. It is so wonderful to have Steve back in our lives. An old friend has returned home after a long absence, and we need to embrace and welcome him home. Thanks Steve!!! You are, and will always be one of a kind. I hope someday to shake your hand, and maybe even play a song or two with you. GOD bless you, and I am hopeful that your return to music fills your life with the joy that it once did. It surely has brought much joy to the rest of us.

    You are not replaceable. Never could erase your voice. My dads band did original songs, but some covers too... I fell in love with your voice when I was 4 years old. My dad sings amazing and can play every instrument, but he's no Steve Perry, nobody is. Open arms was our first dance together at our 💒 wedding. Seperate Way's our 2nd... We are highschool sweethearts who went our own way for 3 years when were both accepted to different colleges far apart. We agreed to let each other explore during this period also agreed to not discuss our freedom years. I was working on an 8 year doctorates degree. He finished a 4 year BA degree in 3 years. He came running to propose to me. We both knew we belonged together forever after our 3 year break. We remained best friends while so far apart and saw each other every winter break when we would go home to be with our families for the holidays. We both kept journals while seperated, turns out, we both dated 2 other people for a few months each throughout the 3 years. Neither one of us found anyone else who made us feel the way we made each other feeling. We just celebrated our 22nd anniversary of marriage. Thank you, your songs tell our story, whilst describing our relationship and deep love we share. I know how cliche this sounds. It sounds like a Hallmark or Lifetime original movie, but It's all true.😄😀😍❤
    We both send our love and best wishes to you, Mr StevePerry and family...

  • @SamsaraSings
    @SamsaraSings 5 років тому +138

    I think I've listened/watched now about 1,000 times. Does anyone else go through this? At first, it seems like a simple happy song, but there's sooo much more. My anticipation is the same each time with the intro. I know what's coming and I can't wait for his voice. Then, when he finally starts singing, each and every time, my eyes well up and a tear rolls down my cheek. My old friend -- that voice. My favourite singer of all time. I hear that voice and I feel like I'm 15, 20, 25, 29, 35, 40, 45 and then, finally, I'm 53 and hearing this in the present! I'm transported back in time to all the good times of my life. I experience all those times again. Ironically, "No Erasin"" erases all the bad times and life is soooo good again.
    By the time I get to him singing "Our love just won't let go," I'm smiling ear to ear, laughing, dancing in my chair, throwing up my arms, clicking my fingers. My hands are in front of me praying. My joy is just soooo high. YES "I felt this once before" well, many times, but they all came back. When he transitions into the bridge, I'm taken somewhere else entirely. I'm lost in the song now. I can't get enough. "My soul's burnin'" too. I've never felt happier. As I transition to the outro, I'm soooo happy. "I told you of my love today." I want to scream that!
    But that's actually just the surface of the emotions I get as a fan-girl. There's so much more I think of in the way he sings, his technique. I'm a singer -- not in his league, of course. But I've tried to sing along, learned the lyrics and even the keys. The complexity of the way he sings this (just as he sings every song) is hidden until you try to do it. Every single note, he conveys so much emotion, how he places his notes. Front of the mouth, further back, how he modulates his vowels, his diction. I could talk about his style for a week or more because it has always fascinated me! That has always been, for me, the incredible brilliance of his musical intelligence. He always knows how to place those notes, for maximum emotion as you hear it, to "dig" right into your soul. Every singer wants to do this, but most can't. It's so natural for him, so easy. OMG how I missed his voice!

      He is the most naturally brilliant gifted singer ever. He doesn't have to think how to place his voice. He just connects to his soul and leaves the rest of it relaxed. That is the trick. To access the soul without getting in the way and that is the genius of his gift. But there is a catch you have to be insanely brave and deeply honest to do that. He is all that and more. Steve is God's gift to the world much like Princess Diana and is loved by many.

    Steve Perry's voice is about as important to rock music as Michael Jordan was to basketball. Perry's vocal prowess has set the bar by which all other rock vocalists have been measured by, and they all have invariably come up short. So given that I hold Perry's voice in the highest regard, you can imagine my surprise and euphoria when I saw this new song by Steve Perry on my UA-cam feed. For me, after years of not hearing Perry's vocal work on any new material, to hear this new song was like experiencing the second coming of a musical messiah. Yes, Mr. Perry, please come and rescue us from the musical mediocrity that is today's music! Thank you for returning!

      @SamsaraSings 5 років тому +15

      Sorry, but I don't think you know a lot about singing and the voice. Does it "deteriorate" over time? It ages. Men over the age of 35 lose range. Women do, as well, That's just life. I sing, but can't hit those notes I did in the 80s. I got old. Didn't you? What we build in our voices is character. Steve Perry built that and I could honestly listen to him sing the yellow pages because of that. It's not about using or not using. It's about musical intelligence and then, work to get the range back. And you have NO idea how much work that takes obviously. When you're a singer, your instrument is yourself. What did you eat, drink, think? It all figures into the way your voice sounds. Steve Perry is 69. I'm 53 and female and tried to sing along and struggled. He's still completely amazing to me.

The first is thank you so much Steve for letting us enjoy another one of your songs because I’ve listened to the rest of them over and over again my entire life and it’s exciting to have something new of yours to listen to!! I understand you need to be out of the limelight for a while and spend time with your family and move on in life but I’m so glad you came back to share your amazing talents with us.. The second thing is if you actually read this I know you are a humble person but I want you to know you were hands-down my favorite male rock vocalist of all time and that includes some amazing singers like Dennis DeYoung Tommy Shaw Rod Stewart Sammy Hagar etc. you just have the purest most unique sound that is instantly recognizable and enjoyable.. The last thing I want to say is for those of you musicians who got to be a part of this I hope that it is the highlight of your careers because you just rocked with the greatest of all time in my opinion!!
