If he is having minor. It will be minor form for lifetime, which is heterozygous state. Minor will not get converted to intermediate or major which is homozygous state.

Spleen doesn't reduce back to normal in thalassemia. If your transfusion frequency is increased , you need to sort out reasons of it. Otherwise you need to remove spleen

No. The second baby would be the same as the first one. Build up vitB12, folic acid, pyridoxine, vitD level of the first baby. His hemoglobin is low. Get his ferritin level tested as well.

It's a genetic defect and can't be normalized. No worries as well in this condition. Just build up her folic acid, pyridoxine, vitD, iron, vitB12 level on permanent basis

I don't have beta thalassemia or hemoglobin variants. The name of the test was hb electrophoresis. For genetic testing what's the name of the test. If i want the details about genetics.
It must be beta Thalassemia minor. If it is so, no issues at all. Keep let hemoglobin above 10g/dL. Monitor iron status during pregnancy. Get a CBC and iron studies report in last month.

Assalamualikum. I have BTM and 22 weeks pregnant. Hb level is 7.3. And serum ferritin is 5.74. The gynae doctor said i cant take iron infusion due to this trait. But i consulted a hematologist she said that i can get iron infusions/venofer because iron is too low and if hb didnt go up by iron infusion then go for blood transfusion.
You should take iron infusion. Your hematologist is correct. Oral iron would take a long time to build stores and correct hemoglobin. First start injectable then shift to oral preparations

A very imp video idea on this topic: "Pregnancy with beta thalasemia trait" This is very important as most gynae docotors dont have much information about thalasemia trait in pakistan. 3 to 4 gynae doctors told me that the only option thalasemia trait patients have is blood transfusion in case of low hb. They never bothered to check the iron levels. Even after seeing the my ferritin report which clearly indicated extremely low iron levels they said that i canot take iron infusions as it can lead to iron overload.... it was difficult to convince them that BTT patients can have iron deficiency too...thank god i consulted a hematologist.

Better take iron. Bc BTT is a high consumption state. In Male, Ferritin should be more than 200.

Spleen doesn't reduce back to normal in thalassemia. If your transfusion frequency is increased , you need to sort out reasons of it. Otherwise you need to remove spleen

No. The second baby would be the same as the first one. Build up vitB12, folic acid, pyridoxine, vitD level of the first baby. His hemoglobin is low. Get his ferritin level tested as well.

It's a genetic defect and can't be normalized. No worries as well in this condition. Just build up her folic acid, pyridoxine, vitD, iron, vitB12 level on permanent basis

It must be beta Thalassemia minor. If it is so, no issues at all. Keep let hemoglobin above 10g/dL. Monitor iron status during pregnancy. Get a CBC and iron studies report in last month.

No food restrictions for you. Take iron, b12 and folic acid rich foods. Rather you should take pills rich in b12, folic acid and iron, too.

Assalamualikum. I have BTM and 22 weeks pregnant. Hb level is 7.3. And serum ferritin is 5.74. The gynae doctor said i cant take iron infusion due to this trait. But i consulted a hematologist she said that i can get iron infusions/venofer because iron is too low and if hb didnt go up by iron infusion then go for blood transfusion.
Is iron infusion last resort? Can my ferritin levels go up with oral iron and diet at this point in pregnancy?
You should take iron infusion. Your hematologist is correct. Oral iron would take a long time to build stores and correct hemoglobin. First start injectable then shift to oral preparations

This is very important as most gynae docotors dont have much information about thalasemia trait in pakistan. 3 to 4 gynae doctors told me that the only option thalasemia trait patients have is blood transfusion in case of low hb. They never bothered to check the iron levels. Even after seeing the my ferritin report which clearly indicated extremely low iron levels they said that i canot take iron infusions as it can lead to iron overload.... it was difficult to convince them that BTT patients can have iron deficiency too...thank god i consulted a hematologist.
