Very good explanation about the exchange variation of the QGD. I also have seen g4, sacrificing the pawn and opening the g file for the attack.

Joza, you are on the right track here, I'm sure. Karpov was probably the best positional player of all times. Also great Russian champion with only slightly negative score with Kasparov, I think only minus one game in all the matches (Kasparov, one of the best attackers ever). So if Karpov lost in this opening against Jan Timann (who was honestly never a top star, if I remember well), it tells you something about the trickiness of this opening.
I don't know about the others, Joza, but i would really like you to analyze more human games. The "robot" games are so depressing.

You are right, the score in the Kasparov x Karpov is +1 for Garry. But you are somewhat wrong about Timman who was a top player in his time.

@@Grandcapi I guess you can say anyone in the top 10 is a top player, but I think I never expected from Timann to became serious title challenger or world champion. Today there are some 4-5 players who could easily become champions one day. But maybe I'm wrong. This was such a long time ago. From that generation I only remember great Victor Korchnoi, besides Kasparov and Karpov.

@@pensiveape6184 Yes, maybe he was not a player who could challenge the world champion, but he was a top player. And, btw he has written some very very good books.
