Watch the same video in 2D here: • Queen's Gambit Decline...
The Queen's Gambit is one of the oldest and most popular openings in chess and is played by many of the top chess players in the world. White is fighting in a very ambitious way for central squares, in particular for the e4-square. Therefore, he is trying to get rid of black’s d5-pawn in order to have better control over the e4-square.
In this video of the series, IM Andrey Ostrovskiy is covering the old mainline with 4.Bg5, the Exchange variation and the related Carlsbad Structure in the Queen’s Gambit Declined. Black does not capture on c4 and tends to play a bit more closed position. In the Queen’s Gambit Declined, black’s main idea behind the move 2…e6 is to protect the pawn on d5 and to overprotect this very important central point. The main focus of this video is on the main strategies and plans for both sides in the different variations.
The main variations covered in the video are:
1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6
White has two main options here:
00:35 4.cxd5, Exchange Variation
1:04 Black’s move: 4…exd5
After 5.Bg5 Be7 6.e3 c6, here we reach the Carlsbad Pawn Structure
White has two options here:
7.Qc2 and 7.Bd3. Normally both moves lead to the same position.
After 7.Qc2 Nbd7 8.Bd3, Black has the following options:
4:22 8…Nh5
6:33 8…0-0
White has the following options:
6:45 9.Ne2
7:56 9.Nf3
9:20 4.Bg5, Modern Variation
After 4…Be7 5.Nf3
10:00 Black’s move: 5…0-0
10:57 Black’s move: 5…h6
White has two main options here:
11:04 6.Bxf6
13:17 6.Bh4

what if they play nc6 instead of c6
It’s generally considered worse since the knight in queens pawns positions shouldn’t go in front of the c pawn
@@alphadoughnut2651 i know but its hard to punish it
Absolutely wonderful job!!! Great coach!!
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much! Such a great course!❤
Ur amazing thank you
After bishop to g-5, how should I respond if black follows up with pawn to h-6, forcing my bishop out? Haven't I wasted a move if this happens?
Bf6: after Qf6, you take a pawn on d5, otherwise Black gets a bad pawn structure.
Excellent video, thank you!
