      This nice but the only is the wiring and have to be walking over. May making coffee table or night lamps. Or have rechargeable batteries on it since leds don't need a lot of power to turn them on. Idk I'm just saying it as an idea.

    Best takeaway idea from this video is that the Ikea table top is hollow. It seems obvious, and common knowledge if you have ever picked one up, but until you see one cut open like this it isn't clear whether what's inside is easily removable and cleanly modifiable. So, thanks for that.
    These kinds of table tops would make a great base for some other projects. It would fit an LCD monitor nicely (for a MAME table, etc) or possibly a large "shadow box" frame.

      Thanks for the nice comment! Absolutely, you could also make some storage inside the table ;) the options are many!

      Since it’s hollow how much weight can it take? I’m afraid the mirror & glass would one day just burst out from the bottom 😱

      Well, if you're ballsy enough, you can make your own cheap table from the ground up. I use Kreg hardware jigs which makes things a lot easier. The sky is the limit when it comes to your designs. Most cheap tables are made of cheap white pine press-board. You could use that or actual pine or some other wood.

      the hardest parts would be cutting the table top and getting a clean and straight line and have he glass fit very snuggly around the frame.

    • @ton3ton3able
      @ton3ton3able 6 років тому +5

      I thought it might be better to get a black version of the table and get a glass top that covers the whole of the table top. Would make the table last a lot longer as wood wouldn't be exposed to moisture and such

  • @slipperycman8555
    @slipperycman8555 5 років тому +3

    Amazing build man! There’s a few things I would do a little differently tho. For example I would use some sort of staple to staple the led strip to the wood in case it became loose since the tape on those aren’t the best quality, second I would put a little bead of caulk around the top of the tape where the glass and the actual table meet just to water proof it in case of spills, dust, etc. And third I would build a little box to house all the wires and boxes on the bottom of the table just so you wouldn’t have to worry about all that falling down overtime. But other than that amazing job man can’t wait to build one soon!

      My grandmother had one that I got but I guess you can either buy in a shop or in a yard sale? I had to cut mine out a bit but I left that out of the video since there are many videos on how to cut up glass

      Get 2 pieces of glass cut to the size you want. Just as an additional step paint the bottom of the table black before you place the bottom peice down. Instant mirror. Not quite the same but I'd imagine good enough for this kind of project

    Definitely clever and looks cool, but knowing how flimsy and cheap those tables are, and with the additional weight of the mirror, wooden frame and the glass, I'd be scared to fart next to it without it falling to pieces

      I think you can use pretty much any strip these days, the prices are competitive if you shop around various stores, or even cheaper order from Chinese commerce sites, and they often can cycle through flashing patterns. It doesn't seem like this project needs fancy requirements. But you can get programmable strips if you do want to have more control, and ones with a black background would be a bonus.

    fantastic table. What would be the best see-through percentage for the solar film ? about 25% ? I guess 10% would be too much and would cause the "bottom" rows to become less visible ?

      You can control/automate many available LED strips like this with your smart phone or other hub. Imagine also adding sensors so it would respond to proximity or other variables. Electronics stores have all this kind of thing.

      @@Sohail410_ I know he tinted, but still you can see the led strip when it's ON. You can see it at 0:05 - first two lines with visable strip. When you use black strip ypu wont see led strip just led dots ;)
      I made one at home and I'll try to show it later.

    Great cept the cable management. All that work. Why not put the plug underneath, run the cable down the leg(if you're lazy since you could drill down the leg to hide) so it's cleaner and you can put stuff on mid shelf without that ugly plug.
    Though I get it if it was for a quick build DIY type thing

    Looks great, thanks for the really clear video! Just been looking into programmable Wifi etc controlled LED strips with Arduino etc, this would be a great candidate to apply it to, especially as you can get black strips which would make it blend it in even more! My kids and I love infinity mirrors and this is definitely inspiring for us. Thankyou.
