What is this Weird Pointy Thing on Top of a Yorkshire Hill?

  • I went to climb Stoodley Pike which sits near Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, in West Yorkshire. The monument on top has been standing since 1856, and was built to commemorate the Crimean war. It is a really nice walk to do from either of those towns, and the 360 degree views from the top are just incredible.

I grew up in Burnley then went to university in Manchester. Stoodley Pike was a regular skive. If the weather was good, I'd jump on a train at Oxford Road and be in Hebden Bridge half an hour later. A belly full of (ahem) local mushrooms, and then a hike to the Pike. I loved that place. Often I'd walk over the tops and come down in Littleborough, sometimes in mist, often in hard frost. You're properly on top of the world up there. From that vantage point, I always used to marvel that humans mostly lived in the crevices of the land, like bacteria in the cracks of a mug, except with cars and houses and jobs. Mindblowing!

I noticed one or two your shots took in the sky
literally covered even back in these days with
chemtrails from these high flying jets, as the
story goes spraying chemicals into the atmosphere
to help blot out the sun's harmful rays, no wonder
even in October you didn't get much sun.Apart
from that great video very interesting.🤔

The beautiful skies with fluffy clouds, then chemtrail lines. To block the sun they say but why? We barely see it through the rain THEY created. Jeremy Clarkson did a video on cloud makers and how it makes rain. Explains the constant rain
Soil is now rubbish therefore poisoning the soil making us dependent on government for food. Gmo crap

If you search “chemtrails” you get the conspiracy stuff, however, if you search “stratospheric aerosol injection” it unlocks the door to all things chemtrail! ;)

Great enthusiasm and equally great narration man... We recently visited Hebden Bridge to catch Michael Head and the Red elastic band play at the Trades Club, what a night... we actually stayed at Todmorden Cricket Club in the motor home, we went to The Golden Lion pub which is great if you're into music...l regret that we didn't hike up to Stoodley Pike, it was December last year and the weather wasn't great but hopefully we'll revisit in better climes...you're a lucky man to have all that beauty on your door step.
    Peace to you brother✌️ 🙏👍

He cares about urban decay, He is all that a sick society needs, when it is winding down. Go lad, if I could I would buy you your house. thousand kisses.

Do you know Mike huett. 8 lived with him for a year at Uni, and it was a nightmare from start to finish. He used to dress up like a tree, and frightened people doing it.
Good luck with the vids. Do one from hebden to Bradford, that's a good walk over the moors if you dont get eaten by werewolves.

Visited it in the late 80's with a friend. Just as we set off back down a thick mist came in. Visibility was about 3 yards and it was pretty obvious we were lost - in terms of direction. Fortunately after about 10 minutes it all cleared. Easy to understand how folk can get in serious trouble when up a mountain if the weather is against them.

The lightning rod was added because the bats were being electrified and turning into mutants. Around 1872 the town of Hebden Bridge was terrorised by a 300lb bat! Eventually, a mill owner named Sir Richard Head did battle with the creature and managed to drown the beast in the river Calder!
