The few things that went unused in Colors Ultimate that I personally miss were the Miis in game land, the multiple save files, and the online leaderboards the Wii game used to have (which I didn’t get to use).
@@Austinkeith2010 While that is true for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the Switch still has Miis and are still appearing in certain games, and yet they were still cut. Now I know there could be a variety of reasons as to why they were cut (they probably wanted to make each platform fair in terms of content), but at the moment, I’m not sure of what other reasons as to why they were cut.
Personally, I like the fact that the stages were shorter. I'd much rather have levels that can be played in short bursts (especially when I'm trying to get all the Red Rings and S-Ranks) then have levels that are just waaaay too long. Hell, that's part of why I think Sonics 1 and 2 are better than S3&K.
Hey Tetra, the reason why at 22:57 you didn't collect the Drill Wisp is due to you having Super Sonic enabled, for some reason in Colours you can't use Wisps if you're using Super Sonic. Also great video, seeing all this unused stuff for my favourite game really makes me appreciate it more!
A couple additional obscure details you missed: 1. The Frigate (orcan and skulligan) voice clips shown at 7:44 ARE actually used, at least in Ultimate. The explosions drown them out tho 2. The ability to upload and race ghost data was actually advertised on the Microsoft store page for the game, but it has since been taken down 3. Sega has confirmed that the game *WILL* come to steam at some point, but we dont know when
I'm pretty sure this was removed because it makes absolutely no sense. it was already established that one chaos emerald alone contains infinite power, so the wisps being even more powerful than that would not have made any sense whatsoever.

Is it just me, or is Sonic Colors Ultimate’s test rooms more awesome than the other game in some ways?! It’s like a fa game test room…and seeing the type of lighting used in them compared to in the game itself is awesome too! Seeing lighting on everything that doesn’t make them look like they’re in space is just cool! Oh! And the fact the 3D sections are more free roam! Also this video, like usual, is very interesting!

The fact that they were planning on attempting to make the chaos emeralds irrelevant since 2010 by intending to make the power of the emeralds *weaker* in comparison to wisps baffles me. It's almost like the first step into today when the emeralds have become almost irrelevant in the games and have only been in the main stories twice since unleashed, being generations and mania and have only been an extra otherwise.

Hey at 22:56, you try to collect that yellow wisp to mess around in the second test level but cant collect it. You have super sonic enabled and strangely when it is activated you cant use any wisps at all. If there's any way to deactivate super sonic in the version you used to show off the test levels, you could explore those test drill wisp areas
Interesting possible remnant from stages being one instead of split up; I remember hacking the game with Homebrew a long time ago and moon jumping around levels, and at some point ended up stumbling into another act WHILE I was in one already.
There actually is an og Sonic Colours glitch in Tropical Resort and Aquarium Park where you could get enough height and speed to escape Act 1 and end up in the scrapped second halves (Act 2 TR, and Act 4 AP)
20:14 I'm not sure if it's in Tropical Resort or Starlight Carnival (probably TResort), but it's used when going backwards somewhere in a 3D section after coming down from an elevated place.
I'm pretty sure it's also used in certain acts where you can free fall (which im pretty sure you did at some point in starlight carnival? it mightve been another one i forgor 💀)

The Sonic voice clips in Boss fights might be a detail left over from Unleashed, as Sonic would taunt the Boss when defeating it before the results showed up. Maybe they planned to implement a similar feature but left it out.
I find it weird that none of the unused music of the original game was mentioned in here. With there being leftover early versions of Aquarium Park act 2 and Starlight Carnival act 2 (Which are commonly labeled wrongly as “act 4” in many UA-cam Uploads of the soundtrack) as well as the unused hover wisp theme
6:29 If you look the acts not labeled as 1st/2nd half of old act 1/2 or act 1/2 they all reuse stage geometry from the stage that are labeled like that. Basically there were meant to only be 2 acts not 5 or 6.
Some acts are also much longer than others when you look at the game's data, like... the entirety of aquarium Park act 1 is actually quite massive... aquarium Park act 1 might be the one stage that it being split into two was a good thing for the average player lol

The reason why you couldn't grab the drill wisp in the second test room is because in the final game if you enable super sonic mode Sonic can't pick up any of the Wisp so either you enabled super sonic mode before you went to the test map or the test map already had super sonic enabled

Fun fact, the Frigate boss completion lines that were unused ARE in fact in Ultimate. Here's hoping that once the game has been completely fixed (which as of the latest patch the Switch version is getting pretty close actually) that maybe we'll see at least the other unused victory lines be added into the remaining boss fights. Also I noticed that the test rooms had enemies with a few new tricks not seen in the final release that may potentially get added back into the game in some way such as the laser flyers occasionally sending out a bar of electricity the player would be forced to jump over. Honestly there's still SO MUCH potential for Ultimate to reach once it's been patched back up so I hope Blind Squirrel Games will see to it that the game reaches it in some way (honestly considering the original state of the game they're committing pretty well so far).
About 3:52, both games were being developed at the same time (pretty wild when you consider Generations has a stage for colors) so they have alot of shared content internally. Sonic's model is almost identaical in both games i belive (differences being the mouth), which is anyways a simplified version of the unleashed model. But this is probably why the concept art has this pointed out, it was for both games.

I got my sister Sonic Ultimate, and we're both huge Sonic fans and she loved Colors on the Wii... and she had more fun seeing how bad the game could break than actually playing it.

The likely reason behind the two similar test levels named after the different department leads is probably because they correspond to which team used which test room.
9:32 I'm taking a guess and saying this was an original design for the icons on the save files assuming colors ultimate has multiple save slots, so this was probably an original design for tails' icon Was most likely scrapped because of your reasoning earlier, kids don't know what a floppy disk is, or they want the style to be more simplistic But I'm taking guess that this implied that the other characters who had icons for this, yacker, cubot, orbot, eggman and sonic were all going to hold the floppy disk too in some way to indicate the save files I could be wrong so feel free to correct me if you wanna
Nah they should’ve keep it. Especially since the 3ds version made it painfully clear that the mother wisps created all the planets including the wisps. And that she was about the to destroy everything because of eggman did and they mentioned multiple times that the wisps have incredible power. So the emeralds wouldn’t be stronger since there’s other things stronger than them

Huh! You know, in the actual game, if you press the crouch button and then move, sonic will do a slide and he will keep sliding INFINITELY! So maybe that's what the crawling animation in 5:00 was supposed to be?!
The crawling and sweep is used in Unleashed. It’s a way to punish the player for failing to slide in time as crawling is a lot slower. Removing it likely helped with game flow as crawling was annoying in Unleashed.

But something that I found very funny was that due to the Crawl getting removed from this game and sonic not having a crawling animation, Sonic will now start sliding around at the speed of sound all over the stage if you try to crawl. Crouching doesn’t require an additional button. The crawl and sweep were removed because they were useless. The crawl was used in Unleashed to punish players who failed to slide in time.

The grey sonic silhouettes are interesting it me. The first one is art used for Sonic Unleashed and the Super Sonic one is taken from the Archie comics. Maybe the Metal Sonic one was also from somewhere else but I can't really tell it's just Metal looking at the screen.
"Not enough buttons" that isn't true as in unleashed, the crawl was mapped to the slide and only played with very low speed, and the spin kick was preformed by double tapping the slide, so it wouldn't have been impossible to re add.
15:48 the other silhouettes look modeled after existing renders, but the super sonic one doesn't appear modeled after anything. i believe its from the archie comics based off of the shape of the spines and shoes, particularly under the pen of tracy yardley. I'm surprised you didn't talk about the unused terminal velocity act 2 in the wii version. Same with the "super easy mode" intended for ultimate wich was supposed to make the game even easier

I'm taking a guess and saying this was an original design for the icons on the save files assuming colors ultimate has multiple save slots, so this was probably an original design for tails' icon
Was most likely scrapped because of your reasoning earlier, kids don't know what a floppy disk is, or they want the style to be more simplistic
But I'm taking guess that this implied that the other characters who had icons for this, yacker, cubot, orbot, eggman and sonic were all going to hold the floppy disk too in some way to indicate the save files
I could be wrong so feel free to correct me if you wanna

Nah they should’ve keep it. Especially since the 3ds version made it painfully clear that the mother wisps created all the planets including the wisps. And that she was about the to destroy everything because of eggman did and they mentioned multiple times that the wisps have incredible power. So the emeralds wouldn’t be stronger since there’s other things stronger than them

Huh! You know, in the actual game, if you press the crouch button and then move, sonic will do a slide and he will keep sliding INFINITELY! So maybe that's what the crawling animation in 5:00 was supposed to be?!
The crawling and sweep is used in Unleashed. It’s a way to punish the player for failing to slide in time as crawling is a lot slower. Removing it likely helped with game flow as crawling was annoying in Unleashed.

But something that I found very funny was that due to the Crawl getting removed from this game and sonic not having a crawling animation, Sonic will now start sliding around at the speed of sound all over the stage if you try to crawl. I'm not gonna lie, that $@ cracked me up the first time I saw it 🤣🤣🤣

5:19 Sonic Colors Supports Gamecube Controllers and have some buttons that dont do anything on the game. so these may be for gamecube controller players only but scrapped.
Crouching doesn’t require an additional button. The crawl and sweep were removed because they were useless. The crawl was used in Unleashed to punish players who failed to slide in time.

The reason why you couldnt pick up the wisp is because you have super sonic enabled, which makes wisps unable to collect

The grey sonic silhouettes are interesting it me. The first one is art used for Sonic Unleashed and the Super Sonic one is taken from the Archie comics. Maybe the Metal Sonic one was also from somewhere else but I can't really tell it's just Metal looking at the screen.
The capsules in the test stage didnt give u wisps because you turned on super sonic mode where you can't use wisps

"Not enough buttons" that isn't true as in unleashed, the crawl was mapped to the slide and only played with very low speed, and the spin kick was preformed by double tapping the slide, so it wouldn't have been impossible to re add.
