This event happened inside one of our maintenance shops. Wheel and brake shop to be exact. Parts were being removed from a tire that exploded in the process. Nothing to do with any aircraft. (Delta mechanic, here)
Did they remove the bolts from the wheel halves before relieving tire pressure? If so, that is a major training failure! I understand that the wheel could have been cracked or have other issues. But I am saying this not knowing what aircraft wheel is involved or what the techs were doing to that wheel or if that particular wheel was of that type. I'm just curious. But I also know that you may not know or may not want to or be able to divulge what you may know. May God bless the families of those involved and heal the one hurt in the accident.
@@nunya9555-: A worker in Botswana lost his life when he tried to fix a truck tyre before releasing the pressure from the tyre. May the souls of those 2 workers in Atlanta rest in peace.
Tires explode for overpressure or by improper removal from landing gear without deflating the tire first or by trying to separate the two piece rim without deflating the tire first . In any case these are the main causes of accidents. The other cause is usually lack of proper supervision and maintenance procedures. Feel sorry for the mechanics.
I never liked servicing tire pressures. Heard of stories like this. Kept my distance from hot tires. Only so much one can do to minimize the inherent danger.
We have a forklift with split retaining ring style rims. When getting flats fixed and they start airing it up, I find the nearest concrete wall to get behind. If those rings ever give way, they can take your head with it. Very dangerous stuff.
I'm not sure what you were writing here as proper punctuation is important. So, there was a tire explosion that caused this fatality? I am sorry for the loss of lives that resulted. Tires on a 2 piece rim can be deadly if not properly seated. My condolences.
it only takes a few minutes to do a dye-check inspection on the wheel-half flanges and that should be the minimum inspection routine. dye-checking saves lives and money.
So much said about nothing! Summary: 2 people dead 1 injured, the authorities are controlling access to the area and the information flow! The authorities claim there’s no threat to traveling so it’s business as usual! Of the people that work in that area of the airport a few not all are unreachable! Conclusion: some major crap happened, the authorities have it contained for the moment. The current threat level is unknown so since many people don’t trust the authorities to protect them I will say canceling travel plans if I’m flying out of ATL is not an unreasonable precaution. Avoid the airport until it is cleared by the news or the employees at the airport start divulging more information! Stay home or drive, if you choose to travel by plane your odds are 70:30 against you! Meaning a negative outcome is likely to affect you based on the vague information received! The funny thing is my AI software predicts the same negative outcome up to 60 miles radius around the airport, like it where a nuclear or airborne biological threat! 😮😮😮 you hear it here first in your Quantum temporal news! 😎✌️
yea but who is to blame? do the bosses have the right to reprimand employees or to tell them to do it right any longer? new society rules. you cant tell people they are wrong, ever. If the employees did everything right that is awful. and very sad either way, no one deserves to die. I honestly do not know. maybe I am out of line. I suppose time will tell. But Airplane maintenance has caused more then one plane crash when it was done wrongly or incompletely. even recently.

@nunya9555 Wouldn't be surprised if they didnt confirm that the tire was deflated.

Thank you for explaining. Sounds like everything should be checked 7 times

My brother works there and hes not answering his phone😢 I'm worried.
Praying for you and your family!

Was it him?
RIP
I hope you’ve heard from him by now 💜
Rest in Peace dear brethren. May The Lord God Almighty receive you into His Kingdom.

I am sorry to hear of the accident and subsequent loss of lives at the Delta facility in Atlanta.
May their souls rest in peace.
Why I get nervous whenever pumping air into my tires
always wear eye protection- especially with bicycle tires. even a minor tire failure can take your eyes out.
OSHA heads up!

“Incident”. Sounds like a euphemism to avoid liability.
So sad.
The same thing happening with FedEx G Drivers no safety no overtime pay trucks no airbags no leaking all over water or oil at all where’s the OSHA
you can turn them in- or you can sit right there and comment.
Wow incredible you reported a worker who. Died on the job that is rare whats your angle .

WTH? IS GOING ON WITH AIRLINES THESE DAYS
You literally told us nothing.
Yeah it's pretty disappointing considering its information that's been out for a bit now on multiple channels
Damn that’s a major law suit
Depends on whether the maintenance was performed correctly according to the manual.

Sympathy for the victims and families. Reporting was so amateurish. Pathetic.
I was wondering how many times she was going to work the words "At this point" in there. Prayers for the victims families though.
Must've been a Boeing....
Boeing does not manufacture the tires 😂
calm your pants- its just someone who thinks they are funny.

I think I’m done flying for a good while.
Amtrak travel is better
This incident has nothing to do with flying
Nothing to do with the flying operations.
Strictly maintenance, not on a live flight
i'll need to be without pulse and in a pine box- unless they let me fly.....

which is precisely why everything is documented when it comes to passenger air travel.
a bomb ?
Since no information is given, I take it they were Boeing whistleblowers.
We will see!!
you don't need a 'whistleblower' when there are corpses on the floor.
I bet it was gas that killed them.
