I picked up one of these from a rummage sale for 3 bucks, and after I got it home the coffee tasted like shit and the clean light remained illuminated. This lead me searching and then to this video. I ran through this routine and changed out the charcoal water filter and now its performing like a boss, so THANK YOU! Best 3 dollar coffee pot ever.

I have the coffee matter. After I run the clean feature, I turn the whole maker, without the pot, upside down. This will allow more water & some scaling type minerals to drain out

If you want to know for sure if all the vinegars washed out all you do is add a little cream into the water if it curdles you still at vinegar left in there just thought that's a nice little fact for you to know

Thanks for the video. After close to 10 years, ours is so clogged that it can't get through a cleaning cycle without a steady alarm tone going off and stopping the process. I can see some minerals coming out of the top dispenser that goes into the coffee filter bucket. Need to find a way to take this thing apart and clean it.

Just ran into the same problem with the alarm going off. I unplugged it for 5 minutes to see if it would resolve but not such luck. Then I took the coffee maker over to the sink and turned it upside down and could not believe all the debris that came out of the "top dispenser" as you called it. Since the cycle never completed there was still vinegar in the reservoir and inside the machine. I rinsed out the top dispenser area with water. I was able to run cycles through with no alarm! I always put a paper filter in the basket during a clean to see that all debris has been removed.
Thank you for your very concise video. I did it wrong before I looked you up...didn’t remove the water filter. I have a reusable mesh type filter in ours - should I leave that in during the cleaning process? I’m thinking I should so that can be cleaned as well?
That would be fine, after you are done I would wash it with soap and water just to give it one last cleaning.
Helpful video, however I've cleaned mines about 3 times and the cleaning light just keeps coming back on, what do I do? Should I just unplug the machine and plug back in?

Why don't you put the coffee filter (not the paper filter) in with the strainer for cleaning ?
You don't really have to but it would catch any hard water deposits

How can I take apart and reassemble the carafe cap?
There should be a o-ring or plastic washer you can remove and it should come apart.
I bought one of these coffee makers because of his videos, DON'T waste your money, two weeks after I got this machine so I followed the instruction in this video and two hours the clean light came back on so I unplugged it, made 1 pot of coffee and the clean light came back on again, then this piece of crap start making 3 cup on a ten cup fill, then it started leaking park of the water on the counter, I went through this exact procedure 3 times on a Saturday still 3 cup on a ten cup fill DON'T waste you time, money it will only make your blood pressure go up and late for work, better buy a $15.00 Walmart closeout special it will work way better the MR. Crappy
I thought I might find a solution to why mine stopped working after 7 years. It sounds like it's going to brew and after you hear a slight suction it stops. the light stays on but no water comes out. Always a sad day when you coffee pot stops working. :(

Why can't I leave the mesh filter in when I run the clean cycle? Will it damage the mesh filter?
No, its just another part that will need cleaned after you are done, thats all.

If you only use bottled water in the coffee maker, is it still necessary to descale the coffee maker??
Yes even bottled water has minerals in it. you need minerals in you water for your coffee maker and the coffee to taste correct. Only Distilled water does not have minerals in it and that is why you are not suppose to use distilled water. Bottled water is just fine to use since it still has some minerals in it. Is won't need to be cleaned as often but it still will need to be descaled.
Descaling with vinegar also kills bacteria and mold. Food for thought.
