    I find that this one gets so much hate. Personally, I ADORE it. Whenever I spray it I immediately think of Christmas past for some reason (perhaps b/c it smells like marron glade). Wonderfully warm and sweet.

    @xyltk I agree that Candy is less sweet than the men's scents you mentioned. The fact that this fragrance seems to melt into the skin makes it a good candidate for a gender-neutral scent. Wear it if you love it!

    OK so when i was 16 in England i adored (and still do) Katie Puckrik. She was to me like Vedder or Cobain was to girls. Cool and out of reach. Even now I look at her in videos like these and see that eyebrow line and the sexy as hell jawline and it make me nostalgic for those days. I think Katie is beautiful beyond belief, she makes my wife jealous though. She has Ryan Gosling (yawn obvious) and I Katie Puckrik - I win. FACT.

    You can click though to my blog from the link on my channel page - it's also called "Katie Puckrik Smells". Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez's "Perfumes: The A-Z Guide" is *the* perfume bible for anyone interested in wearing and discussing fragrance. The range of knowledge and scientific and cultural references is breathtaking, and the wit with which it's written is a delight.

    @SnowEclaire I appreciate the feedback. I generally mention projection ("wears close to the skin" vs "Foghorn Leghorn") & longevity (usually with regard to it being extraordinarily short or long-wearing), but I don't like to get too proscriptive (ie "nighttime only", "suitable for teenagers", "summerweight incense"), 'cause I don't want to lay down too many "rules" for wearing whatever makes you happy. It's fine line. I'll bear your comment in mind for future reviews, though.

    I'm so glad you checked back in to let me know! It's tricky doing long distance perfume whispering, so it's gratifying to hear that I steered you in the right direction.

    @Dhoketa Perfume is meant to be worn on skin - not on a strip of paper - so you should always try a scent on your skin if you're seriously thinking about buying it. (Just like you should try on a lipstick, not just look at a swatch on a tissue.) The stuff in the sample vial will be the same as in the bottle, but if you want to be double-triple sure, go back and spray the bottle on yourself.

    Do you know what's cool? I didn't much care for your reviews at first, but now that I've seen more of them, I've actually grown to like them quite a bit, to the point where I'd find it hard to go on without them. They're also entertaining AND informative, which makes them extra fun to watch.

    I got it and on first sniff i smell something i used to eat lots ov as a kid- battenburg cake- very marzepan but its not just that-it has a addictive quality that,s got some sexy musk in it too and its hard to explain as its not overly sweet really, i also got ekk playdoe but a very cute warm kind and i really like it.....mmmm, it's classy , sweet and beautiful powdery and it gets compliments !!

    If you want that fudge, you just need sweetened condensed milk (in a tin can ) and a pot of water. Boil the condensed milk for about 30 minutes (depends a bit on the size, the bigger the tin, the longer you need to boil), let it cool and then open. Voila!

    To me, it smells like the popcorn and candy corner in cinemas: sweet and absolutely cheap. I'm surprised you like it. In the past few years Milan public transport has been flooded with scantily dressed girls drenched in sugary fragrances, which forced me to always wear a cotton scarf sprayed with a lot of Crystal Oud by Montale or Santa Maria Novella's Iris. Now the trend was ending, but Prada is bringing it back and I will never forgive them for it.

    Do you think Prada Candy could be worn by men, Katie? Caramel, benzoin and musk don't strike me as particularily feminine notes. I find Candy to be less sweet than some mens fragrances, like Thierry Mugler Pure Malt and Aquolina Blue Sugar. I'm really getting into wearing more womens scents. I've taken your advice and am now wearing Dior Hypnotic Poison and Thierry Mugler Womanity proudly!

    Fbomb is bigger, louder and busier than Candy. Candy is actually quite smooth and quiet and creamy. I'd say Candy is more sensual/sophisticated, and Fbomb more brassy and good-time girl-ish.

    Tresor! I never actually smelled it until a year ago when I was playing with it in Duty Free...and I love it! It's got this dense peachy musk that is very insinuating. I might end getting a bottle. Candy is full-on caramel, but I can see that it shares a certain furry musky warmth with Tresor.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  12 років тому

    They're both beautiful perfumes, but Flower isn't sweet the way Candy is. But it is powdery and warm, and it has a gorgeous trail of scent that goes on and on. Candy is unusual and pretty, but doesn't have Flower's lasting power. Maybe you should go for Flower.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  12 років тому

    How long a scent lasts can depend on the perfume as well as your skin...& the relative humidity of your climate. I spoke to a perfumer who complained about how long Candy lasts - because he once sat next to a woman on a plane who was wearing it, & he found it never-ending.
    The funny thing is, I felt it wore off after a couple of hours. But there's nothing out there that smells exactly like this one, so if you love it, get it. & spray more on if people stop being able to smell it on you.

    When I was a kid, my dad was in the US Air Force and worked in the intelligence side of things. The glamorous side were all the James Bond-style parties my parents threw for the international community, and the more sinister side was getting trailed by spies from "the other side".

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  13 років тому

    @cathi76 It's true that Candy doesn't have the longest staying power, maybe a couple hours, but that is good enough for me. Bottom line most important thing for me is whether the fragrance smells good, not that it lasts for 20 hours. In fact, I start to get bored/irritated by a perfume if it has too much persistence.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells
    @KatiePuckrikSmells  11 років тому

    Pink Sugar is more harsh/burnt sugar-smelling that Candy, which is smooth caramel-creamy. If you specifically love how Candy smells, I don't think you'll be satisfied with anything else. You'll spend money on a couple cheaper things to try to save money and then end up buying Candy anyway.

    @eezepeeze No, because WVS is more straight ahead plain-ol' vanilla sugary, whereas Candy has the benzoin which adds a slightly animalic, background leather/skin smell to the proceedings.

    They will both give you so much pleasure. I've been thinking that you might like a sweet/powdery/musky perfume by Keiko Mecheri called Loukhoum. It comes in 3 slightly different forms, and the one with the muskiest drydown is the one I've done a video review for called Loukhoum Parfum du Soir.

    Several months ago I asked for a recommendation of fragrance as I was trying to move away from Pink Sugar. You said try Prada Candy. Four months and a hundred dollars later, I purchased it and I adore it =) It seems to last fairly longer on me compared to others and even longer on my clothes. I've never smelled anything like it, it's very unique and lovely. Hopefully I won't hear the "you smell like my girlfriend" comments anymore.

    Hey Katie I had a question. I went to Nordstrom's and saw the lady helping me spray Candy on a test paper for me to smell; from the actual bottle. And I loved it. She also gave me a small sample (not from the actual bottle) and I feel it doesn't smell like what the test paper smelled like. I'm so upset b/c I loved it so much. Do you think I should give it another chance? Go back and spray the bottle on my skin?

    It's weird, I smelled this last year on a tester strip and I thought it was awful. It sounds like a gourmand lover's dream!
