- I'm no stranger to channel catfish through the ice. They're fun, they're dumb, and they fight hard. Flathead catfish through ice are almost impossible, and I've only seen it happen once. Blue catfish are slightly more manageable, but still extremely tough.. Even on small water. Colt, Jor-Dan and I set out on a couple day mission with 10 plus tip ups, and some large pieces of cut crappie, and cut white perch in hopes of getting a bigger blue catfish than last year. An almost 50 pounder proved tough to accomplish, but we still caught blues, and had some laughs.

Drill a double 10. Like the lake trout guys do.
Catch a fish too big too fit through the hole. Lose it. Continue to fish through a single hole for all the other tip ups. Sounds about right.

So he's mentioned in the past that in Nebraska you are legally only allowed holes of a certain size, I believe that it's against the law to drill a second hole and fish through it, which explains why they don't fish in the double holes they have to drill to get fish out.
Jesus, what did you do to your K-drill?!?! 😂. I was getting ready to add new end peice (chuck end) cus it slowed slightly: end all chewed up. But damn, 30 seconds for 9 inches of ice. Should take 6 seconds at most.

Caught 3 bass over 4 lbs on 5” live crappie the other day. No size limit in Louisiana, and the pond is over stocked with those little guys. It turns out predatory fish find crappie as delicious as I do.

This may sound stupid because I am. I've never been ice fishing maybe because I live in Texas and the is mostly in my cooler. And besides I'm pretty big white boy. But would it be better if you went ahead and drilled two holes overlapping each other to start with if there's any kind of chance of hooking a rather large fishy with little thingies sticking out the sides.😁😉 Love all your videos. Thats cool that your allowed to use game fish for bait. In Maine, it's illegal to use any fish or part of fish that has a ray (spikes on the back). So sunfish and up really
I grew up fishing in BC in Canada, you're not allowed to use any fin fish or parts of fin fish......

Bud I bought a brand new snowmobile and got it all set up for fishing. I'm in North Dakota and only had snow for a bit I only got 50 miles on it. it is driving me nuts. I have got some nice walleye and perch this year so far tho. good luck

We’re normally in the 80-90 inch range at this time of the winter here in Northern Maine and we’ve only got 44 so far. It’s been an insanely mild, snowless winter for much of the northern part of the country.

We’ve got a foot of ice here in Northern Maine on our lakes which is well below average for this time of year. Normally we’re pushing 30 inches by now. Well below average snowfall, over 40 inches below average. Just a very, very mild, strange winter.
Always had a thought, wouldnt something like a Katana-boy pruning saw work better for making holes bigger when you have a fish that wont fit?. Should cut through the ice really quickly and you wouldnt run the risk of not being able to see the line when running an auger.
may as well just get a 12inch one, just skipp the 10inch all together
The tail looked like that fish had whirling disease. Read about it. We just found some in our fresh water lakes in interior of BC. Not good. Maybe think about using “discretion” and not let it spread. But read about if first. The more you know.

removing a bunch of small crappie is good in a lot of situations. Too many smalls stunts the growth of the average.
