Any show with Grandpa is great. He was a great actor and knew so much about life. He showed so much emotion about the horse, you could feel his pain. Thanks for sharing ! ❤
One of my favorite Grandpa Walton quotes is in this episode, it's said when they're branding the mustang. "Sometimes in this life, we have to go through some discomfort to arrive at some lasting good." It's a good reminder and can be applied to so many things in life ❤️
I have watched The Homecoming several times this year already. Odd to feel homesick for a place and time you have never been or lived in, and a longing for a family you never knew. You all created a Great Christmas gift that gives us that warm secure feeling of Christmas, and family every Christmas. I loved Cleavon Little's role and laugh every time I hear the way he delivered the line when he asked the Baldwin sisters for gas. What a loss. May he RIP. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us.
I would certainly agree with you 100% . As a boy of about 12 I watched it the night it first aired and been watching it ever since. Earl Hamner was a national treasure. I could put myself there in my mind growing up in a very rural place and the people the hardships etc. I visit Earls hometown once a year and tour the museum, look at his old house drive past Rockfish. I stand on the railroad bridge and think of him growing up there. A wonderful place and time indeed. Not to mention driving out past the house where the two ladies were rumored to make papa’s recipe way back then.
I have to say that in that last 6 months, I've been watching The Waltons on FreeVee. I'm 66 and remember it well in the 70s as well as the original movie. Now, the depiction of those days warms my heart, especially in the turmoil that is today's world. I loved the Waltons then and I love the show today
Hi Judy! I love the last mustang episode! My favorite part is where they brand the horse and then let him go and run free, that was a great happy ending. Also I just got my Christmas CD from you on Tuesday and thank you so SO much for autographing it to me and even writing me a note! ❤ this means the world to me and I’m the happiest ever and can’t wait to open your CD on Christmas Day and listen to it :) and I hope you’ve had a wonderful day! Will was at his best in this episode as well, especially showing his righteous anger when the stallion was captured and penned. News from the home front: Nancy is doing better but still cannot come home and I can't get into the hospital to see her. Sort of like the Waltons when grandma was sick. But she is going to recover and I'll see her soon, Hopefully before Christmas. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, Judy. Hi Bill... All good wishes and Blessings to Nancy for a full recovery and her return home to you and the family very soon, this Christmas season. Happy Holidays to you and to all. 😇🙏🌲
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are hoping that Nancy comes home on Monday. My three girls are taking turns making sure that I am well fed, well medicated, and my wheel chair is ready to go. I laugh when think about my Italian father wo would feign disappointment everytime Nancy and I called to tell him he had yet another grand daughter. i told him that long after my sons would refer to me as the "old man" I would always be Daddy to my girls. That has been prophetic. My last memory of him was in his wheelchair at our full length dining room window watching my girls playing together in the snow over the Christmas Holiday the day before we left Illinois to return to Texas. He looked up at me and said how precious they were to him and I had to agree that they were. We left the next morning for San Antonio, only to find out when arriving home that he had died during the night.@@LisaLisa-2023

What a great episode and one that shows politics being a dirty business much like it is today, very self centred and full of ill intentions. That first panning shot which shows all the Waltons engaged in various chores was outstanding as it really throws the audience into everyday family life thus, being part of them. Ep Bridges was the true winner and no amount of charm and favours were going to substitute a good sherriff like him. This episode is a typical example of how the Waltons brings life into reality. @@judynorton2598 **I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE "AI" DO A "VIDEO" OF ALL THE WALTONS VOMITING ON EACH OTHER AFTER EATING ALOT OF SPOILED FOOD AND HORRIBLE TASTING MILK!!** --- ROSEANNE BARR
This is great Judy. I have recently started watching the show again on freevee and now am following each episode with your behind the scenes commentary. It’s kinda like the Cliffs Notes where I would read a story and then follow up reading the cliffs notes as a way to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for what I just read. Looking forward to doing this with most if not all the other episodes. You’re awesome Judy!!👍
I had to help a family a couple of times with branding their cattle. Holding the calf’s down was hard enough and when that hot iron goes on the fur it is a cloud of smoke that smelled terrible. It sure looked to me like they weren’t enjoying it. The worst was burning their little horns. You held this cup shaped red hot iron on the little nub and held it for fairly long. Their eyes would roll right back. Glad I only did it a couple of times. Judy looks quite fetching this week, enough to quicken the pulse! 😇
It does make me wonder about some of those actions. I’m sure there is a reason they need to be done in most cases… and as Grandpa said (paraphrasing) sometimes the long term gain is worth the short term pain.
The last of any living thing is a sad commentary and this episode handled it with grace and dignity. The mustang running off to the freedom of the hills is memorable.
Yes its making me wish I'd paid more attention. It would be great to watch together! Yesss sounds like Judy just might need another Mr. Dayton segment, I would certainly enjoy that.
Judy I loved Grandpa. How close was he in character to real life. I never met either of my grandpas. If i had one I would want one just like Will Greer. He was sweet funny and didnt take life too seriously always making the best out of a bad situation. Im really enjoying your show. I loved Mary Ellen also.
Wow, this is great that you do these videos, thank you, I love the Waltons for years and still do. This is a great idea for you. I hope everything works out. Good luck. Love from a Hugh fan
Hi Judy, The Mustang aired during the marathon on Hallmark, so it's still fresh in my mind. Thank you for covering it in such vivid detail. Judy as an athlete and horse whisperer😍 I am inspired by your ability to make the horse feel safe with you. I actually love horses but am deathly afraid to ride one. My first time on horseback at 17 years old in Central Park with a bunch of friends, I was thrown off the crazily galloping horse that left me dangling sideways, grabbing onto his straps, panicking about being trampled if I let go and thinking was this how I was going to die. I must've angered the horse? As a very skinny person, I was like frightened feathers to the irritated horse. I thought this only happened with stuntmen. I have been so traumatized by that experience that I never attempted horseback riding since. Thus, Judy, I find your ability to ride just amazing! 😯
Oh no. So sorry to hear you had that bad experience. Hard to predict when something might spook a horse. Often when an inexperienced rider gets scared, they grip on, try to clamp their legs, which urges the horse on. Then the rider is bouncing, which also urges the horse on. If the rider starts to slip as you did, this is also disorienting for the horse and scares them more. So it’s a snowball effect unfortunately. There are horses that are pretty “bomb proof” and are great for giving new riders a positive experience.
@@judynorton2598 ❤Thank you so much Judy for listening and explaining the reason for the terror (from the horse and the rider-me) For decades, I never knew what I did to anger that horse, and for many years I remained afraid of them, even being near one (ie Police horses in Manhattan). I must've done what you described, it all happened so insanely fast. It would've been great if they gave me a "bomb proof" horse knowing how immature and inexperienced I was. The horse's front legs shot up and propelled me backward, I knew that was not good, the horse hated me. But I still love watching you ride - on the Waltons, especially when you were a traveling nurse, you jumped right up on that tall horse as if it was nothing. and then you would do a quick about-face, and ride the horse home- not to mention that fantastic RACE you and Mary McDonough aced! ❤🧡💛👍
So im watching the episode called the day in infamy so said especially where Ralph Waite is reading the letter from curt and the tears are just rolling down ur face o my gosh talk about a lump in my throat god bless
I remember feeling very anxious the first time I watched The Last Mustang. It was awful to torture that poor horse by exhibiting him like a zoo animal. I never liked zoos as a kid. Though, some nowadays provide more wild nature preserve type quarters for the animals. I remember admiring Toronto Zoo. Our local zoo takes exemplary care of the animals and the entire city mourns when one of them dies. The kids get attached through the years visiting this or that creature. Love the scene you took the time to show us with each actor making an entrance then the camera showing the next bit of activity. Of course, JB moves with such energy into the frame. These details are why we all so love The Walton's and it's been so nice to learn more how each of you helped create such excellence. Much love to you and Waltons everywhere! ❤
Hi Holly. You were very compassionate as a child. For me, I loved the Zoos because that was the only chance that I ever had to see them. When I had a child, my perspective changed dramatically. When Jon was in elementary school, they had to do a school paper about how they felt about zoos. Jon had to choose for or against. He asked for my input and It wasn't until then that I became very ambivalent about sheltering animals for human adventure- I guess there will always be pros and cons to everything.
I’m with you - sometimes I have a hard time watching scenes where an animal appears to be abused. Even knowing it’s make believe I don’t want to watch. Always glad to know there are places that do take good care of the animals.
@@judynorton2598 Judy- in another post, I wrote how convincing you and Jonesy were when Jonesy as a Veterinarian, and you as his assistant (Nurse) helped to take care of all of the animals who were sick. I loved the episodes that Richard Gilliand was in with you. Excellent themes - especially the one episode when you couldn't reveal to Jonesy about the accident that left you unable to carry another child (with him). And John Walton encouraged you to tell Jonesy who loved you deeply the truth. Another 200+ outstanding shows.
Wonderful story telling! How nice it has been having the Walton family back on Mondays & Thursdays...We missed you all during the strike!! I'm looking forward to your next story!!! 😊
Some things never change. Crooked politicians and favors with a catch. We could really use some unbiased media nowadays. Great episode. I really liked Ep Bridges character. Soft spoken and nothing but integrity. There are wild Spanish mustangs on the outer banks here in North Carolina. They're descended from a herd brought here by explorers as early as 1520. They're our state horse. You looked lovely in this video. Hair looks great! A bit early but wishing you a Merry Christmas. Can't wait to watch our traditional The Homecoming Christmas eve night!
Question........in the last episode of Season 9, were you all aware, this was your last episode, or did you think there was a Season 10? If you knew it was your last episode, you all did an amazing job of not showing tears. You're all amazing actors, because that episode made me cry!!!
I actually saw this episode a couple of weeks ago and John Crawford who played Sheriff Bridges was in a lot films and TV shows he was always one of my favorite actors over the years and I still see him in lot of them in reruns on TV Thank You Judy. 🇺🇲📺📺🇺🇲
One of my favorite episodes i love horses 🐎 and wild ones need to stay running free grandpa always had a way of explaining life in the way we all can understand and relate HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU
Thank you for the interesting insights to this episode. I remember when I 1st watched it...years ago...that i was cheering Grandpa et al to rescue the horse. Wondering: How was the horse trained to buck & avoid people. He was quite the actor! 😊
Another GREAT Episode. TY Judy for this channel. What made you decide to do this channel? You have shown how you prepare for your episodes but this is an undertaking for sure! I love to see your success & subscriptions grow. Looking forward to more wonderful behind the scenes Judy!😊
Great episode 100% on target , Wild horses belong free , politicians are smooth talking devils. John boy tiny honest newspaper man doesn't want to slant the news as giant media outlasts have always done . this episod hits all the buttons including chickens not following direction
I liked how this episode explored the main themes that have been going on in the world for centuries. Exploiting resources for our own entertainment, the dangers of a spectacle, the consequences of our actions, how our actions affect the planet, including animals and contributing to global warming, and etc. People even endanger their own lives or others for entertainment as well. People think that you can tame animals/predators, but you can’t. We exploit them and make matters worst !! You can’t tame a predator, you have to enter an agreement with one !!
I recently found your podcast and have been enjoying myself in catching up with your episodes. Thanks for doing this and sharing your info on the show I so loved while I was growing up. I have a couple of questions, if I may: I've always wondered if there were there any huge animal lovers in the cast? And if so, were they allowed to spend a lot of time with the animals on the show? (Blue the mule, Chance the cow, Reckless the dog, Calico the cat, etc.)
Welcome aboard! So glad you are enjoying these segments. A number of us were animal lovers. Some animals we had more interaction with than others. We did hop on the mule at times between scenes, and we did play with the dog at times. But since these were working animals it was limited based on the trainer’s discretion of what was needed for the animal’s focus.
I love the way they handled the branding. Obviously, not an actual wild mustang, and obviously not a red hot branding iron, but they gave us the illusion of that all the way thru the scene. I guess they did press the branding iron onto the horse's rump using some sort of black ink or paint, but that was really well done. Thanks, Judy, for telling us about that episode; I love the separate story lines; how they tie them together in a common theme. I think of EP as being synonymous with the last mustang, last of his kind. I wonder if that's what the writer(s) was going for in this one.
hi judy! looking good! another fun & fine episode! thanks for sharing :) i do have a question i'm wondering about, either a known fact that has somehow escaped me OR your own personal opinion - is there a "jump the shark" moment during the 9 seasons, other maybe than "mary ellen's" husbands death not being 'real', if that could be construed as "jump the shark" - thanks judy! :)
What a great episode and thank you for sharing, Judy.. I am happy to report as I mentioned in an earlier reply that I left my CD out in my truck and I couldn't remember if it was signed or not. Imagine that! You would think that would be the first thing I looked for so I scurried on down and did a huge "woohoo" when I discovered that it actually was signed, Merry Christmas.🎄 🐦
My job yesterday had a Christmas party and we had an Italian feast of Lasagna and Spegetti and Meatballs. We had another Christmas dinner party at my job today of a turkey feast with Mashed Potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and bread.
In the later episodes when John was away and the boys were gone n the military, I assume the mill was not operating. So a practical question about finances. Where did the family money come from? What was Rose’s source of income. Any other tidbits of information along those lines would be interesting. Thanks! This channel is enjoyable. We raised our 3 boys watching the Waltons. Now they are watching with their kids. No shows today that can help you teach morals!!
Interesting question. While the boys were away at war, John still mostly ran the mill. When John left to spend time with Olivia Ben was mostly back running the mill. Some of the others were also contributing. Mary Ellen and Erin both worked.
The most memorable scene in this episode: Ep Bridges reading the Blue Ridge Chronicle. This episode was written by Calvin Clements who also wrote for "Gunsmoke". One of three important episodes about John-Boy's newspaper: 'The First Edition', 'The Firestorm', and 'The Last Mustang'. If CBS had not moved so fast to WWII and Richard had not left, they could have done more episodes about the newspaper.
This was a feel good story ending after intrigue during the whole lead up. I sort of recall seeing this one. I am beginning to realize that politics will most likely always be like that as depicted on the show. It hadman6 moving parts and you did a fantastic rundown for us. Thanks, Judy.

A very good episode. One of my favorites. Thanks for bringing us along, Judy. And a very merry Christmas to you and your family! Mary
Same to you!
Many life lessons learned watching The Walton’s ❤️
Absolutely.

**I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE "AI" DO A "VIDEO" OF ALL THE WALTONS VOMITING ON EACH OTHER AFTER EATING ALOT OF SPOILED FOOD AND HORRIBLE TASTING MILK!!** --- ROSEANNE BARR
Always enjoy your insights into these episodes.
Happy to hear that. Thank you.
It's always nice to see the horses, miss mine a bit.
Thank you so much.
Thanks for Sharing Judy.
You are so welcome
@@judynorton2598 that last remark is a simile towards … ? 😊 ❤️
The last of any living thing is a sad commentary and this episode handled it with grace and dignity. The mustang running off to the freedom of the hills is memorable.
Perhaps a reminder that a part of ourselves is wild and free :)
@@judynorton2598 I like that :)
You to great work ms.judy.and I love you insight to the waltons ❤
Thank you so much.
Yes its making me wish I'd paid more attention. It would be great to watch together! Yesss sounds like Judy just might need another Mr. Dayton segment, I would certainly enjoy that.
Glad you enjoyed it. John and I are working on scheduling another chat. :)
merry christmas happy hoildays to judy norton❤

WOW Very good. So many interesting stories in one episode.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Oh I love this episode what a great episode good ole show judy hard to beat
Thanks 🥰
Your welcome
Loved that episode, had forgotten about it. Cool!
So glad you enjoyed it.
Loved this episode!!!!! Thank you!
Yay! Thanks.
My sense is Will was a lot like Grandpa in real life.
Wow, this is great that you do these videos, thank you, I love the Waltons for years and still do. This is a great idea for you. I hope everything works out. Good luck. Love from a Hugh fan
Thank you so much.
@@LisaLisa-2023 Glad the info was helpful.
Happy
Christmas 🎉
Love these and love the walton
So glad. Thank you.
So im watching the episode called the day in infamy so said especially where Ralph Waite is reading the letter from curt and the tears are just rolling down ur face o my gosh talk about a lump in my throat god bless
Ralph reading that letter was truly heartbreaking - made it an easy scene to film.
That was very interesting, I love horses too!!!
Awesome!
@@LisaLisa-2023 That's kind of you, Lisa. I think my awareness might have had something to do with the film Dumbo.
I’m with you - sometimes I have a hard time watching scenes where an animal appears to be abused. Even knowing it’s make believe I don’t want to watch. Always glad to know there are places that do take good care of the animals.
@@hollyavillella554 Holly, Im embarrassed to say that I've never seen Dumbo. 😔
I loved this episode ,I'm a horse lover myself .
Awesome!
Hello miss Judy I so look forward to your videos such fun ❤god bless
I'm so glad!
Judy, thx for sharing. Interesting. 🎬 😊❤
My pleasure.
Wonderful story telling! How nice it has been having the Walton family back on Mondays & Thursdays...We missed you all during the strike!!
I'm looking forward to your next story!!! 😊
Thank you.
great video judy
Thank you!
Love your channel 💛🙌🏼
Thank you so much.
Good episode
Great 😊🎉
Some things never change.
That’s great that North Carolina protect the wild horses. Merry Christmas to you too.
Politics, gotta luv it. Great video. Thanks. Looking good Judy 👍
Thanks for watching.
Question........in the last episode of Season 9, were you all aware, this was your last episode, or did you think there was a Season 10? If you knew it was your last episode, you all did an amazing job of not showing tears. You're all amazing actors, because that episode made me cry!!!
Although I suspected, we did not know for sure.
@@judynorton2598 ❤🧡💛 From your first show to the last show, They were all fantastic and inarguably Emmy-Award merited!!
I actually saw this episode a couple of weeks ago and John Crawford who played Sheriff Bridges was in a lot
films and TV shows he was always one of my favorite actors over the years and I still see him in lot of them in reruns on TV Thank You Judy.

I always thought he was so handsome
He was terrific as Ep - always loved his work. You’re right, he did a lot of other work over the years.
One of my favorite episodes i love horses 🐎 and wild ones need to stay running free grandpa always had a way of explaining life in the way we all can understand and relate HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU
Loved the storylines for his character. Always protecting nature. Will was like that in real life.
I remember this episode
Thank you for the interesting insights to this episode. I remember when I 1st watched it...years ago...that i was cheering Grandpa et al to rescue the horse. Wondering: How was the horse trained to buck & avoid people. He was quite the actor! 😊
Horses and their trainers are quite something.
Grandpa was amazing man i loved him great funny nice man Judy
He was the perfect Grandpa Walton.
keep the clips coming
Interesting, Thanks Judy❤
Glad you enjoyed it.
Another GREAT Episode. TY Judy for this channel. What made you decide to do this channel? You have shown how you prepare for your episodes but this is an undertaking for sure! I love to see your success & subscriptions grow. Looking forward to more wonderful behind the scenes Judy!😊
Thank you so much! This was a channel I started during Covid as a way to stay connected and reach out - give back to the loyal fans etc.
My Uncle In Law loves driving so many mustangs.
I like this episode ❤
Happy to hear that.
Great episode 100% on target , Wild horses belong free , politicians are smooth talking devils. John boy tiny honest newspaper man doesn't want to slant the news as giant media outlasts have always done . this episod hits all the buttons including chickens not following direction
That’s life, messy, complicated and decisions at every turn :) And a few unruly chickens thrown in for good measure.
You raise very good points.
Not quite the same thing, but south of what would be Walton’s Mountain in Mount Rogers VA are wild ponies. Look up the Wild Ponies of Grayson County.
I've been there! I'm from wythe Co VA
How cool.
I recently found your podcast and have been enjoying myself in catching up with your episodes. Thanks for doing this and sharing your info on the show I so loved while I was growing up.
I have a couple of questions, if I may:
I've always wondered if there were there any huge animal lovers in the cast? And if so, were they allowed to spend a lot of time with the animals on the show? (Blue the mule, Chance the cow, Reckless the dog, Calico the cat, etc.)
Welcome aboard! So glad you are enjoying these segments. A number of us were animal lovers. Some animals we had more interaction with than others. We did hop on the mule at times between scenes, and we did play with the dog at times. But since these were working animals it was limited based on the trainer’s discretion of what was needed for the animal’s focus.
Also, Rover the peacock.
Merry Christmas Judy
Thank you. You too.
Hi Judy The Waltons Love my favorite one fan Big Mary Christmas 🎄 ☃️ ❄️ Happy New year 20024 🥳🎉💖🎶
Thank you. You too!
This was interesting Judy
Happy to hear that. Thank you!
Love that analogy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
hi judy! looking good! another fun & fine episode! thanks for sharing :)
i do have a question i'm wondering about, either a known fact that has somehow escaped me OR your own personal opinion - is there a "jump the shark" moment during the 9 seasons, other maybe than "mary ellen's" husbands death not being 'real', if that could be construed as "jump the shark" - thanks judy! :)
That one would probably be most likely to fit that description. Even included a dead fish :)
Awesome! Happy to hear that.
My job yesterday had a Christmas party and we had an Italian feast of Lasagna and Spegetti and Meatballs. We had another Christmas dinner party at my job today of a turkey feast with Mashed Potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and bread.
Yummy - sounds like fun.
Merry Christmas
Same to you.
Hello Judy 😊 Run wild run free. I dont like to see any animal trapped or caged.
I agree. 😊
Nice hair and earrings today. 😉
Thank you!
Great show I'm watching it right now season 8 when they found John boy.
Thanks for continuing to watch.
For Christmas, my boss bought me a big bag of Skittles and some notebooks yesterday
True.
This was a feel good story ending after intrigue during the whole lead up. I sort of recall seeing this one. I am beginning to realize that politics will most likely always be like that as depicted on the show. It hadman6 moving parts and you did a fantastic rundown for us. Thanks, Judy.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Judy Are there any special plans for the holidays & traditions from you & other cast members? Favorite FOODS 😅 traditions you all enjoy? TY.
I think each of us has our own family traditions.
