    I absolutely adore these quirky little JDM nuggets. I'm a retired mechanic, have owned almost everything over the years, north of 100 cars have come and gone. The truth is most of us could do just fine with something like this and limit our impacts at the same time. Moving 800kg of car to move 100kg of human makes so much more sense that a resource hungry flagship weighing over 2200kg. If these were available here in OZ, I'd have one tomorrow. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to own, cheaper to run, less stress paying for it all. Am I missing something or just plain eccentric?

    I never seen a kei car in the U.S. I've always found these cars cool. Whenever I visit Japan in the future, I'll make sure to drive one

      The old Scion XB and Nissan Cube is the closest Kei car the U.S ever got.

      @@ma.jemilynlazier7217 I mean, the Smart Car and Fiat 500 are closer to kei cars than those, but yeah, those share a similar shape to kei vans.
      If fact, the Smart car dimensionally fits the regulations for a kei car, but in the US it never had the 660cc engine required to be a kei car, it had a larger more powerful one

      I've seen a couple kei vans and kei trucks around, so they are starting to gain a bigger following for sure, but definitely still a very rare sight!

    Given the present price of small vehicles in Australia, a non-drive away price of around $16,000 (including auto) could make these viable with the turbo being the standard engine.

    I'd love for Kei cars to come to Australia. I rented a Honda N-WGN Kei car in Japan and it was great. So practical and easy to drive. The only unexpected negative was the "boomy" echo sound within the interior, which may have been due to cheap materials rather than being a Kei car. Surprisingly, I've seen some Kei dual cab utes in Japan. They seem practical enough, although the tub was very small and the rear seats probably don't slide back for increased legroom. It'd be great to compare their economics, usefulness and enviro footprint to the Ford Ranger or the Silverado-RAM-F150 trio.

      @talalahmed7166 4 місяці тому

      Like kei cars, kei trucks are more practical than Full-size trucks. Kei trucks also have non-kei versions with 800cc and 1000cc engines for pulling heavier weight/towing.

    I love small cars, like sure, Kei cars would have a hard time selling in other countries but can you imagine how much simple and greener life arround the world would be if all of the normal people who don't really care about cars drove Kei Cars? ❤️❤️

    There are two countries where Japanese Kei cars, especially used ones, sell well: Russia and Pakistan. Both are known to be harsh environments in which to maintain cars. In Russia's Far East, getting stopped by a car in winter can lead to death. there
    Used 4WD Kei cars in Japan that are 10 years old, selling well.

    It is a groovy little car, and it looks like it would do a decent job of city driving. Though Highway driving would be out of the question. It is only around 30cm shorter than a Mazda 2 in length.

    • @boboutelama5748
      @boboutelama5748 3 роки тому

      The european versions of the Suzuki Wagon R, in the late 90's, where all equipped with 1.2 4 cylinders. That where more potent for highway use.
      It make sense to believe, that, if the Japanese would try again to come on the international market with their key cars, they would use their 990 cc 3 cyl engines, that are now very common on several markets.
      But, before Kei cars come back, we need a change of rules regarding passenger car. But this change of rule, is very probable to occure in Europe.

    It will never change until the options to have us there. We have big cars. One being a mustang. But taking the mustang to the supermarket or any public car park leaves us with nerves shattered until we get back worried that some no caring pieces of the 💩 hasn't smashed there door or even driven into the our car. We have a honda crv that we use for this purpose. But after going to Japan and seeing these little jems of automotive magic. I'd replace the CRV for the ease of parking and doing the city runs let's say, with the cheaper fuel and probably cheaper all cost of the car. For every day use. And good for the kids aswell. As mine are getting to that driving age. At least I know they be able to break speed records with it. And it wont cost the earth refuelling it after they borrowed the car.
