Professor Murphy, You are a gift, a blessing to this world. I cry watching your neurology playlist esp this one. I’ve seen over a dozen specialty doctors, nobody helps me I have Tarlov Cyst, Perineural cysts in my sacrum. They eroded my sacral laminae, compressed nerves. It’s been 10 years since I was diagnosed. Understanding Wallerian degeneration and regeneration helps. You are the best teacher. I wish I knew you when you lived in Hawaii. I’m grateful finding you 🙏
Hey there, there's no such words by which I can thank you.... As a medical undergrad I cannoot think of anything but these lectures for conceptual knowledge. I really thank god and Ninja Nerd as well as Zach that these videos exist. Take love man
Explanation was amazing, but the eEENeRgY is what SOLD this....wow, it's wild how much easier it is to pay attention. Not sounding dead inside makes a huge difference. THANK YOU SO MUCH, ZAAACH!!!!!!!!!!!
Zach! You rock man. You secured our entire basics of medical education. Love your content and explanation. Just Brilliant! Keep teaching us! God bless!
Excellent. I couldnt watch you during basic sciences because of the stress and the schooling, but you are aces for STEP. After you know everything and need to be reminded, polish, and integrate.
Recently had a lumbar laminectomy which was to treat my radiculopathy in addition to relieving the pressure on the spinal chord. I am living through significant motor loss in the tibialis, calf muscles, quadriceps, glute Maximus and medius. Prior to and right after surgery I walked with a significant Trendelenberg gate. So far that has cleared up. Since my tibialis and calves still do not work, your video struck many chords with me. Thanks and kudos for an informative, well organized and pleasantly presented video. My fingers are still crossed, but my hopes are up.
I recently dislocated my knee and ruptured several ligaments and muscles experiencing foot drop and didn't really understand what was wrong with my peroneal nerve. After surgery I was told that my peroneal nerve was stretched hence the motor dysfunction of my ankle. I found a lot of information online about the Peroneal nerve and peripheral nerves in general but everything was very obscure and I was having a hard time piecing what was wrong with my nerve and how severe it was. After watching this video which covered the majority of information I found online, everything just clicked and I have a better understanding of my peroneal nerve injury(axonotmesis) and my prognosis. Thanks for this great video as it very complete and it helps understand the big picture on nerve injuries and makes me feel a bit more at peace.
When I went through chemotherapy I ended up with numbness and tingling in my feet and hands due to demylination caused by the therapy prevented myelin cells from producing/ dividing. Interesting to see this explained at a base level to understand what I was feeling.
Miss Cabbyp I had the same symptoms you describe, my family care dr request me to fix my carpal tunnel syndrome (mild) I m Not agreed to do because i had numbness, tingling and shooting pain on my feet also. What s chemotherapy mean? and what s specialist dr do i need to see. Pls help!!!
@@Saigonxua1975 I am going through the same thing but my nerves were injured after the doctor administered a blood thinner. Seem like my primary doctor is running from liability by not referring me to someone that can help. The main thing i'm finding out is to increase circulation by unclogging arteries. research foods to unclog arteries. B-complex mainly choline and inositol, cq10, omega 3, anti-inflammatory foods, research low impact exercise depending on injury.
Amazing knowledge and presentation. Your enthusiasm is contagious! I was only looking for something to encourage nerve repair and watched the whole vid. I hope you are teaching our next generation of MDs!!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I've recently had surgery to remove a Schanomma located at the intercostal nerve (Between T1/T2, about two inches from the left of the spine). It was VATs so was minimally invasive, but there has been some nerve compression around the area they entered from and also from the location of the removal site. This video really helped me understand the regeneration and recovery process. Keep up the good work.
I watch your videos whenever I need help with my studies.....your explanation stick the concept to the brains in a very understanding way and help to clear the exams easily .....Thank you very much 😊
Many Thanks from beautiful Prince Edward Island. An MVA caused several injuries and I use your vids to educate myself to better understand my Docs and help me ask better questions for my treatment plans. I appreciate all your time spent creating, producing, editing, and posting content.
@Ilir Cami I educate myself so at least if I can’t be rid of it completely, I’ll understand it better which helps me work thru my nerve pain. Try Dr. Lorimer Moseley. There’s a lot of good pain research coming out of Australia.
You are lord brahma, you are lord Vishnu, your are supreme lord, you are an infinite source of knowledge! The BEST teacher of my life! Thanks Zach sir..!!
Omg! I just saw this after my grown son has had severe neurological problems for years. He’s had all these symptoms of nerve damage and had meningitis at 7 and 7 years ago had a severe fall onto cement and a closed head injury that took a year to heal. Why didn’t anyone check his neck??? I finally got him an x-ray on his neck and lower back and the nerves on the left side are completely blocked off. I’m trying to find a way to help him! Thank you! Thank you!
I was smiling and watching the whole lecture like i was watching my fav show thank you so much for making it so simple to understand and enjoyable 😸😁 i think i ll be remembering this easily next time ✊🏻
Wow, thank you. I’m not in the medical field, but even I followed that! I’m sitting here in a full arm cast due to a dog bite injury 2 1/2 weeks ago that snapped my distal ulna. Bone is now back in place but I have zero use of my hand due to the nerve damage. I now understand my injury better & have new found hope for recovery. 🌷🌷🌷
Really you make at very clear and understanding all topics thanks alot for your time and working I love studying with your video Drawing makes easy ♥️♥️👌
Hi Ninja nerd Thank you so much for making this video. I checked around so many UA-cam videos on neurodegeneration and regeneration. But this is by far more detailed and complete explanation, making everything very clear!
Is there any procedure to be done if the damage is close to the cell body? Where are they located along a long nerve course and is this type of damage seen when axinomtemesis is suggested from one nerve study and many weeks later no improvement is seen on repeat nerve study?
At 3:46 you say the we've got the epineurium. Wasn't that the perineurium? Also, if there are more fascicles within the fascicle you extracted, does that mean that the smaller fascicles are also covered in another perineurium (in which case there would be two levels of perineuriums, one that covers the main fascicles and many others within such a fascicle, each covering the inner fascicles)?
Do muscle atrophy in nerve damage always irreversible because muscle shrinks when it get deinnervated? Can you use electric muscle stimulation to prevent muscle atrophy or even regain some muscle atrophy back from this stimulation?
I'm here because I had one round of prolotherapy in my cervical spine (Dextrose injections) now three to four weeks later terrible nerve pain in the C-4 region. Prolotherapist says he doesn't know... ughhh. Thank you for the information!
This was amazing! I started watching this to better understand my nerve damage with MS, but while watching, thought about the farming accident I was in when I was 10 years old! I severed my tibia & part of my fibula (or give versa, small bone completely) and my surgeon stitched back together all seven tendons that were severed along with the nerves and ligaments. Very fortunate I was able to learn how to ice skate and water ski after that injury. The body is truly amazing at healing and regeneration!
Hi Ninja, This is the best explanation ever!! Thank you so much Dr. I would like to know the symptoms of each categories; Neuropraxia, Axonitmesis, and Neurotmesis (Median nerve). If the nerve doesn’t regenerate completely what are the symptoms ? Thank you!
Hi Zach. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise. My daughter was injured in a terrible car accident several weeks ago which broke her back T12 vertebrae. She has all of her filling in her upper body, arms, fingers trunk, etc. most of her feelings in her size and calves, and very slight feeling in her feet however, her motor nerves are not firing just yet, so her legs are basically paralyzed right now her injury is considered incomplete. Her doctors are not saying she will not walk there please with all of the regular sensation in her legs I’m just trying to understand if there’s something we can do to help her motor nerves fire is there any supplementation stimulation etc. that will help with this? I appreciate any information that you could give. Thank you God bless.
I request ninja nerd team to make a video of Zach's daily routine. We want to know him more. He's a big inspiration for all of us!
Couldn't agree more! Such a gem to students. 🥺
hhaaAA i agree! 🥺 he looks like a humble & fun person :’)
