Once again, long time, no see. (I was just being lazy :P)
    Except... actually, not really.
Ever since I finished the X68K Bomberman Rearrangements, I've been honing my craft and really really got deep into pushing the YM2612 to its limits.
Day after day, I would make unique FM instruments and abuse them with effects.
I would vivisect the third channel into its four operators and see what kind of sound I could generate.
I would learn and learn, and then learn some more, and apply theory to reality, melt the CPU with the power of a super-heated quasar by using the Dual PCM mode, bend time itself with the CSM timer!
    I. HAVE. FURY!!!
    ...
    ...
Or maybe, I'm just being overly dramatic... :P
All that said, I've really really *REALLY* have come to appreciate the unique flavor that the YM2612 provides. I used to prefer the YM2151 just because it had two more FM channels and the Detune 2 effect. (And don't get me wrong, I still see much more potential in the Detune 2 than the YM2612's SSG-EG)
But WOW! I mean it is NO CONTEST how much more you can do when you absolutely abuse the (potentially) 3 extra polyphonies of the third channel, make effects you can only hear with the CSM Timer, and use the Dual PCM software mixing. (Sorry, my beloved YM2151)
    ...
Anyways, that was a WHOLE lot of NOTHING about the theme in the actual video...
It's one of the works I'm most proud of, actually. :)
Can you believe I only made it in a few hours?! (I was really inspired...)
I love this theme. It feels like you're the little guy, steadfast in your quest to beat the big bad, though stacked against all odds, not even certain if you'll end up the victor. (Basically, it fits perfectly with the area/game)
The Koopaseum itself is also a really cool setting! I just wish it were longer, like an actual area of its own. (Though, the short loop length of the song may get a bit grating if that were the case.)

I was actually replaying the first three Mario & Luigis, recently. BIS to PiT to SS. Why in reverse order like that? I dunno. It just kinda happened... Though that is the order I first played them when I was a kid (I played Dream Team between PiT and SS, though (But what am I to do, just emulate a 3DS game like that? ;) )).
Needless to say, it was all very nostalgic, as these were my very first RPGs (I didn't even know what that genre was or that it even existed before I played BIS, lel).
Fun fact. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is one of the very few DS games I still actually own. : )

I thought this track in particular would be a good test to see how much more advanced I'd gotten with the Genesis, as it didn't rely heavily on too many concurrent channels and (in particular) drumbeats. I also thought it would be a good showcase of how realistic FM Synth can sound. That oboe and those marimbas are all FM, baby!
Anyways, I've rambled on far enough. This was really fun! : )
