  • Squier brings you the return of a long-vanished Fender classic in the deeply satisfying form of 2013's Vintage Modified Bass VI six-string bass. The original 1961-1975 model has provided distinctively voiced low end for everyone from the Beatles to the Black Keys, Cream to the Cure, and many others.
    Here, studio session ace Mel Brown takes the Vintage Modified Bass VI for spin with a grooving R&B exercise incorporating harmonics, chords and a pick-style line that ably demonstrates the instrument's distinctively authentic vintage-style look and tone.

    People complaining this is not a bass, with the rotosound string set and all three pickups on this thing has enough low end to flatten a house.

      It's great for playing Motorhead on!
      And I love being able to play fast stuff and guitar fills on it. It makes me sound like John Entwistle.

      had my first practice yesterday with my bassvi, mine has humbuckers though. Also i mainly use it as a baritone with an 68 for my low e and it still had plenty lowend when played through the amp.

    Baritone range is either A-A or B-B. This is E-E so it is strictly a bass. Baritone range can be achieved with a capo. That being said, you could string it up as a baritone, but as it's designed, it is a bass.

    Not just a sixer. It's a guitar style neck, but 30" scale. Not a 2x4 with strings. It's a gateway drug for rhythm guitarists who are interested in heavier tones, but don't want to learn something brand new. It's a rouged temptress, calling out to impressionable young musicians.

    Hi, I don't know much about guitars, but on this video (and a couple of videos I've seen with this guitar), the first / lowest sounding string sounds "fuzzy" and less clear than the others, like it's clashing with the pickups or something (whereas on a 4 string bass it would be a lot clearer tone)?
    Is that how the guitar is supposed to sound? Or do you think the string is too close to the pickups (or something else) and how would you recommend getting a clearer sound from this string?
    Many thanks, LSDA

      When properly intonation is hit at the low E string the screw is getting too close to the string, making it unplayable. A fix and a replacement solution is provided under ;)

    Some stores will carry them. Unfortunately, if you prefer to bring your business to a local guitar shop, you will be receiving yours last. They were originally supposed to arrive mid-October, but now it looks like delays well into December/January or later, since we all know the big box chains will most likely get theirs first.

    What kind of strings can the nut hold? Can I put a heavy B-string on the bottom without replacing it?

    • @markschlipper5129
      @markschlipper5129 10 років тому +2

      Nope. It's designed for bass VI strings, which, despite being in normal bass tonal range are a lighter gauge, with the low E being 90-95. So even a heavy E at 105 would be problematic, let alone a low B at 120-130. Add to that the guitar like string spacing (vs. wider bass string spacing) and you'd be overcrowding the nut.

      Hi just read on fenders website that this is infact a bass guitar, its tuning is EADGBE, just an octave lower than a guitar and is is no way a baritone guitar.
      Thanks anyways :)

      ***** Standard bass guitar tuning is E0A0D1G1

    • @carlmatkin9256
      @carlmatkin9256 10 років тому +2

      ***** a standard bass guitar is tuned an octave below a 6 string guitar tuned in e standard. If this was tuned an octave higher than a standard 4 string, it would just be a guitar with a very long scale.

    • @Dr.Turkey
      @Dr.Turkey 10 років тому

      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stringed_instrument_tunings#G

    • @lapoupadotcom
      @lapoupadotcom 10 років тому +2

      ***** you're mistaken. First, standard bass guitar tuning is E1A1D2G2. Second, the lowest E on a guitar corresponds to the 7th fret of the A string on a bass guitar; there's only one (not two) octave difference between a guitar and a bass. Third, a "baritone guitar" (AKA not the one in this video) is tuned BEADF#B - of course, that's why it's called a baritone: its register falls between that of a guitar and a bass. Fourth, the Bass VI is tuned in the same octave as a standard bass guitar, as you can read in the following link: www.fender.com/news/the-bass-vi-bass-or-baritone-guitar/

    Always loved the idea of this instrument especially when space is tight and workign with a looper. If you ran in through an octave-up pedal, could you play it like a normal guitar?

    • @julianburkert7939
      @julianburkert7939 4 роки тому +2

      I guess you could but you might as well just play a regular guitar, it would probably sound better and you wouldn't get any weird tracking issues like you get (to an extent) with most octave pedals.
      The bass/guitar player of royal blood does a similar thing with a regular 4 string but you'd need a huge array of pedals to make that work like he does. At that point I'd recommend just playing a guitar if you planned to do that with a bass VI and go the other way round, pitch down the bass notes, like jack white does for instance.
