No right minded person would tune to drop F on a 6 string. Thats insane. Just get a 7 or an 8 and dont put your guitar through that Hell. I've been a bass player for a long time now and I definitely think this is a great example of a bass for a guitar player, or maybe even a bass player that relies more heavily on a pick, or at least that's what it looks like!
I have one and it would be a big adjustment for finger bassists. The string gap and heavy gauge takes some getting used to. I play mostly bass and just got this so I could kinda play both on the same instrument.
The bassist from Royal Blood (or any band with only a drummer and guitarist or bassist really) would be able to do some sick stuff with one of these...
.100 on the bottom? 6 strings? Tremolo?!?! is the truss rod made out of iridium?? But really, for someone who loves both bass and guitar, this seems to be one instrument to rule them all. Rad
Aaron Scheer True, I didn't consider that. I just keep thinking about a 62 PBass at a local store, the flats on it feel like torsion cables @_@. But yeah, a variety of factors determine the overall tension.
That's what I thought until I tried one the other day. It blew my mind. You don't have to be a bass player, it's just fun to mess around on. You can get some really unique and interesting tones out of it. The most playable instrument I've ever played. I'm definitely buying one.
Linus Martin You're right! You have to try one to see what it's all about. I am buying for two reasons - The Beatles used this on a few songs and I have most of the guitars they have used, and secondly, I tried it at the local GC and it is fun for noodling around on. I will be using this for Helter Skelter, Let It Be and a few other Beatles songs it was used on.

Here's how I use it; I play in an Americana band, and I find it pretty useful for playing bass lines and doing baritone-like solos to contrast our lead guitarist. It does the job amazingly. I did string with the La Bella stainless strings, that are abit beefy.
I know I’m 7 years late!! If anyone gets the current squire cv bass vi I would recommend making a few mods. 1. Kluson vintage tuners keep mine in tune way better than the stock tuners. 2. The staytrem wide bridge makes intonation so much easier. 3. I would get some beefier strings as the stock ones on the squire aren’t thick enough imo and you lose some low end on the low E and A (newtone strings in Derbyshire do a great .024-.100 set which imo is better than the labella set)
You just sold me again Mr Chapper....I have been researching but typical bass players do not give the dimension this Guitar box has - thank you Chapper and the Captain!
I Picked up the Squire VI ...and have to say it is the Guitar I play the most these days!!.....I did change out the bridge...I put a Staytrem bridge in and the Tuning on the low e string is A LOT more stable.....but geeze as far as Bang for the Buck goes....You can not beat this.....I play it more as a Guitar...But I have done some bass lines on it ...I Love this Guitar!!!! Great Video Guys!!!.

Rob has a special talent for making cheap guitars sound great. When they switch guitars, he can make the Fender sound great too. But you can tell when the distortion kicks in that the Fender is a bettter-quality guitar all-around.
@@LotzofJohan and cachet... Theoretically the Squier parts will need replacement sooner. My Squier P-bass I bought used in the eighties and works perfectly, never had to replace anything. It sounds exactly as good as a "real" Fender. The sound is identical.

I recently got the Squier Vintage Modified version and aside from challenges gettting the thing set up correctly, the thing really kicks butt! Gigged with it this last Friday playing in a blues/heavy rock power trio and was coming up with all sorts of cool psychedelic tonage especially when adding just a bit of overdrive! Not much more than $400 out the door (Including taxes, gig bag, and new strap and a couple other small items) here in the U.S. There is no excuse NOT to get one of these!
man, I started on bass, after a year and a half, sold the bass, baught a guitar, and when crazy on the instrument, this 6 string Bass/Guitar/Guitar tuned bass is the thing for me.
The bassist part of me is horrified, yet at the same time very interested in maybe getting one of these for myself. The concept reminds me of how some bassists use ultra-thin strings on four string bass models in order to make piccolo basses.
Just got the Fender version. I'm putting the La Bella VI Flat strings on...with a .115 for a low B, and I'm tuning it BEADGC, to use as 6 string Bass finger style. Something different for sure!
First of all, wouldn't it make much more sense to run this out of a bass amp, considering it is a bass. And second, how would this put bass players out of the job? If anything this would be putting guitar players out of the job XD
Yeah, the tone will be different but you can run it through either. Or you can pick an amp like a Fender Bassman that is favored by both guitarists and bassist. I’d maybe worry about a guitar amp at high volume, but I think these pickups are more guitar style.
You can tune it down just like you can on a guitar or bass. I don't know if you will need to adjust the action though. You won't harm the instrument tuning down.
"Look out bass players", actually from the looks of it, or perhaps these guys just didn't, the Bass VI isn't actually made to be played like a bass. I think our jobs are pretty safe seeing as it'd be pretty damned hard to play a guitar riff and bassline simultaneously on one of these.
Nice! Lots of classic music was recorded using the original VI. For example, Joe Perry used one on Rocks, George Harrison and John Lennon used one whenever Paul Mac was playing 6 string in the studio.
In my band I play the hairy Benton version of this. I use allot of chords and it allows me to sing and play at the same time as I can't play the bass and sing at the same time.
+TheCryptCrusader really he went the exact opposite of a lot of people. Usually players start with bass because they think it's easy and then say fuck it and play guitar. Anyway he was an amazing bass player
My first copy of the Squier model arrived from Amazon with a broken D tuner so back it went. I have since placed an order through a local reseller but I will have to wait probably two months before it arrives.
Thanks for answering my question, that makes a lot of sense. In all honesty, before you told me this, I'd probably have asked the kid with 5 Strats the same thing. But as a main instrument, I suppose between 5 Bass VIs, the preset tonal possibilities on between the pickup selection alone would be a fantastic reason to own more than one. The thought just didn't cross my mind at first. Thanks for taking time to educate the youth! We're not all as thick-headed as we seem, haha
As a reply to the flat wound set question, it would work but it's a short scale bass so trying to get a set of flat 6s would be a challenge. Getting short scale flat 4s is hard enough, I'd think you would have to make up a custom set up from singles if you wanted to go that route.
I never screwed up a single speaker using a Bass VI, and I play them on various guitar amps (ok, huge and powerful ones : vintage Peaveys 212, 410 cab or 610 cab, Roland JC-120). A good speaker won't be blown up by a Bass VI, a bad one might be. But I never heard any story of broken speaker using this instrument. After all, if you fear so, engage the strangle switch and you're safe (I never use it).
Bit of a long shot but I would freakin' LOVE to see a lefty version of a Bass VI or at least something similar. Closest thing I could find at the moment costs almost a GRAND.
Bass VI defined The Cure album called "Disintegration" from 1989. One of the best albums ever.

Yeah, the tone will be different but you can run it through either. Or you can pick an amp like a Fender Bassman that is favored by both guitarists and bassist. I’d maybe worry about a guitar amp at high volume, but I think these pickups are more guitar style.
You guys should make a video like this one, but with these intruments played through bass amps.
I am no Mozart but at minute 9 after 2 minutes of distorted e string I wanted to fill my ears with cement and die
Bass Bear Exactly my thoughts
I have to remember this comment lmao
Holy shit you weren't joking
Loved that part
I agree. Not it’s finest hour
CAP10's face at 9:35 sums up the amount of fun you can have with these beauties!
Was that Black Velvet I heard at the beginning?
You can tune it down just like you can on a guitar or bass. I don't know if you will need to adjust the action though. You won't harm the instrument tuning down.
"Look out bass players", actually from the looks of it, or perhaps these guys just didn't, the Bass VI isn't actually made to be played like a bass. I think our jobs are pretty safe seeing as it'd be pretty damned hard to play a guitar riff and bassline simultaneously on one of these.
Get the Schecter "Hellcat VI. same as the Squire minus trem and Bass strangle switch! Love mine!
Sounds like Lemmy with disortion.
If lemmy was a guitar player
+Josh Webber Lemmy WAS a guitar player before he was a bass player.
+TheCryptCrusader really he went the exact opposite of a lot of people. Usually players start with bass because they think it's easy and then say fuck it and play guitar. Anyway he was an amazing bass player
Stephen Shepherd us fans of Southern Rock hate Freebird so I don't blame you. Don't let me catch you talking bad about the Allman Brothers though...
@@coltallic3114 Lemmy Kilmister died recently. He was known for a distorted Bass sound.
My first copy of the Squier model arrived from Amazon with a broken D tuner so back it went. I have since placed an order through a local reseller but I will have to wait probably two months before it arrives.
this guitar just broke my basic understanding of a guitar and bass guitar.... can someone help me ?!?!?!?!?!
think of a man and a woman, now in your perspective if you are a man think of a pretty woman................ with a penis, hope that helped
i almost understand
in other words: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS lol
KOOLBOYSC1 Its just a guitar an octave lower.
Mike Scanlan Yes
Love the blues tone on that Fender VI. Wish there were more blues demos on these.
i bet in less than a year there will be an 8 string version of this
LonghairDrummer LHD i hope so
Thanks for answering my question, that makes a lot of sense.
We're not all as thick-headed as we seem, haha
can you play eruption with that please
I'm gonna buy the Squier bass VI in a few weeks! i think the white one looks pretty badass...
Imagine it with a Floyd Rose xD
Get some Dimebag Bass harmonics XD.
If i'm not mistaken, Joe Perry of Aerosmith uses a custom Bass VI with humbuckers and a Floyd Rose. THAT thing looks freaking cool.
thewonderfulMRnoob Just what I was thinking. I'd love to play Cemetary Gates on this...
As a reply to the flat wound set question, it would work but it's a short scale bass so trying to get a set of flat 6s would be a challenge. Getting short scale flat 4s is hard enough, I'd think you would have to make up a custom set up from singles if you wanted to go that route.
Every time lee says pawn shop, it sounds like he's saying porn shop XD
I never screwed up a single speaker using a Bass VI, and I play them on various guitar amps (ok, huge and powerful ones : vintage Peaveys 212, 410 cab or 610 cab, Roland JC-120). A good speaker won't be blown up by a Bass VI, a bad one might be. But I never heard any story of broken speaker using this instrument. After all, if you fear so, engage the strangle switch and you're safe (I never use it).
When you have two guitarists and two basses
man you know its a wicked instrument when two grown men can't stop smiling ;)
Am i the only one that feels like if its not plugged into a bass amp it kinda sucks, which its not in this video
Bit of a long shot but I would freakin' LOVE to see a lefty version of a Bass VI or at least something similar. Closest thing I could find at the moment costs almost a GRAND.
But does it djent
no
this djents
gotta get some better pickups
Let's hope not
its a fantastic game eh? =P
I always wanted to hear bass played like this, thanks a lot for these awesome licks
Oh no not the shredding. Makes me not want one.
the fender amp really makes it sound so much better
