I'm really excited for this! The hybrid board game/TTRPG approach seems really great for getting my casual board game friends into rpgs and the heavy support for miniature based combat focused gameplay really fills a role that I've been looking for in my collection.
Interesting interview, but it fails to answer one rather important question: Why would I play/run this instead of Call of Cthulhu's Pulp Cthulhu supplement? Or Achtung Cthulu? If it just replicates something already available, why switch? Is the dice pool system the only attraction?
No, you didn’t listen to their answer. There are multiple differences and reasons why this is introduced even though CoC is out there. One is the ease of transition into the RPG world, another is the specific Arkham Horror world within Cthulhu that has developed into its own familiar theme (among Arkham Horror board/card game players). Another is the fun approach with CoC being a little more punishing, in this you actually feel like playing a hero who can stand and fight (at least beatable enemies) and yes the new dice system. For me and my party, we used to play D&D but the complicated depth, rules, setup, etc really was a lot to handle for DMs like me. So I’m looking forward to a little more turnkey system that has really good stories and fun. Not to say D&D or CoC isn’t fun (I’m sure they are), but this is what they are going for and I think their Arkham Horror market is prime for this to happen.
@@raineygarrison9496thanks for your viewpoint. Most of what you describe, though, is covered by the pulpier Cthulhu games already out there. That leaves the game system, which may or may not be a draw. And you're right that I hadn't considered the Arkham world itself, probably because I've never played the game.
There is a 45 minute video, but the 2 people playing had no idea how to play, but you see the dice and the horror dice which is cool..they replace your normal dice... its on youtube
Is it true that only the ghouls die after taking one injury? Exiting else you have to put 5 injuries on it before they is even a 1 in 6 that the monster dies? It seems like combats will drag and get boring. Other things need clarification too. Just to take your wall climbing example, can't i just roll one door at a time until I succed? Seems like you need a rule that says you can't perform the same complex actin twice in a structured scene. It looks promising but the box set feels like a beta test rather than an intro to the game.
To the head of the studio, not supporting your games in the long run is hurting your brand, just saying. The idea for this rpg is brilliant, so why not a reboot of the Star Wars line with this system? No funky 🎲
Very nice review. But this is a miserable game. Binary choices, I failed to solve the challenges. Invincible boss fight. Ruthless ridicule of my failures. Hateful, Hurtful. This game ends friendships, I deeply regret playing it.
This’ll be huge in Japan. Personally love the LCG so I’m excited about this.

@@GromMolotok right. There are still questions on whether it will distinguish itself from CoC or not. Just saying they did give their reasons.
I wish I could have access to an actual quality gameplay example
Regardless I have this pre-ordered already

SO, this is a 6-side pool mechanic system? Very similar to Shadowrun?
It's somewhat similar, but with a few key difference and generally higher dice pools.

Yer yer it's good, gimme some more Star Wars, that' the IP that EDGE has that we actually care about.
It’s nice to see something NOT based on Star Wars for a change.

None Lovecraftian lovecraft game. Get your gun. Fight hard. You won't get hurt. Nice and safe. Yawn.
