    What I always loved about Dean was, that he didn't care who you were; whether you were white,black, brown, yellow or red he loved everyone equal. He even canceled being at the inauguration of JFK because they didn't allow Sammy Davis Jr. to be there after all he did to support the party. Now that's what you call a true friend.

      Kennedys used people like dish rags. That political party is totally racist. Yet most black people keep voting for them.

      A performer needs a lot of self-confidence for that, and Dean had it. At this point of his life, he had absolutely nothing to prove, and so was, by all accounts, a pleasure to work with. Jerry Lewis, on the other hand...

      @@akrenwinkle What about Jerry Lewis

    • @akrenwinkle
      @akrenwinkle Рік тому

      @@georgcorfu Over the decades, while Dean was an A-list movie star in real acting roles and had a variety show that lasted several seasons (#1 in one season), Jerry was goofing around in films, making guest appearances on other variety shows, playing Password, and it's right here on YT, a guest on Joan Rivers' early interview show, with a budget of $0, playing venues where Dean (making $100,000 a week in Vegas + 10% hotel ownership) wouldn't be caught dead. The most Jerry had was his telethon promoting himself. There's no question that Dean was a lazy superstar, Jerry was a hyper, over-pushing former star.

    She was so very sweet. We did a TV interview with her in her Las Vegas house about a year after her Chicago native husband was murdered. Murdered in the very living room where we did the TV interview. She even played the piano and sang, we only had two Hitachi cameras to work with. This must have been in 1976-77 for the local Channel 5 TV station. Gives me the chills still.

      I agree. I enjoyed their version of the duet of this song than the one he had with Lena. I thought Barbara did a great job singing that song with him & he seemed to respond well with her until towards the end. Did anyone notice the look he gave her at the end? He seemed a little disappointed about something Barbara was suppose to do? What was it? He said, 'What? How come we didn't do it?' I mean the song is a slow-tempo song. There was no need for a dance in it. Did anyone noticed what he said at the end, "We rehearsed for 3 weeks!" Didn't Dean prefer not to rehearse but show up on taping day with only maybe a brief run through on the songs? So what was up? 3 week rehearsals of what could that be?

      connie rahim I think people who marry multiple times- Barbara had 4 husbands- don't have a life that's a barrel of laughs. One particularly troublesome husband got her bad publicity regarding possession of heroin. She was cleared but some damage was done. That husband was murdered, a Mafia hit job. Those who get throat cancer are often- not always but often- tobacco and/or pot-addicted, and that could have been sad, too. (I'm not saying I know that as a fact about her.)

      @akrenwinkle 4 роки тому +2

      @@Hawkswill If not everybody, certainly the majority, even people one wouldn't suspect. Doris Day, for example, was a chain smoker. There were many factors. For one thing, smoking in movies helped the male leads look suave or tough, depending on the character. Smoking helped women seem, depending on the character, seem more seductive or interesting. In some Bette Davis films, the cigarette seemed to be a character on its own. When I went to school- don't ask me when!- we were taught there was no proof cigarettes were harmful, and that tobacco was no different from milk in that some people can tolerate it, some can't.

      +Pedro Lista Carey @Pedro Lista Carey
      It was taped some time about the beginning of Dec. 1971 and aired: March 16, 1972. Usually it takes his show about 3 months to air.
      Although, I think some time in season 3, they were taping the show quicker and airing them sooner too.
      This was during the Cathy time. She worked at a hairdressing place and was determine to "get him".
      During 6th season 1970-1971 (but episodes taped: June 1970-Dec. 1970), she was often on the set and made everyone uncomfortable, even Dean. This was the start of his changing hair and even attitude. Prior to that, he was an upbeat and total professional man.
      This episode (with Barbara McNair) was during the 7th Season and according to Lee Hale's early 2000s book, Dean was getting back to the old Dean again. I'm assuming between him and Greg Garrison must have gave Cathy a talking to and made her not arrive during this taping of this season. It wasn't until after they wed in April 1973 when all that would change and he began to age more and not be on his tip-top shape like he once was. Dean prior had an amazing gift to make things look easy, yet privately prepare and study on his own time and etc.

      @markilew250 6 років тому +3

      @NOSYROSIE69
      YES! I do! And I've done some research about it. Despite the fact I know Dean at the time media focused on him with Cathy Hawn (among other women who were, let's just say "opposite" looking of Barbara McNair) and Barbara was making news with Rick Manzie-the key clue is what Dean says at the very end of this video "3 weeks". They were both performer regulars at the Riviera at that time. Dean was over that casino and signed her to be at the Casino along with him. Lee Hale's 2012 book on working on The Dean Martin Show and in the Dean Martin Show DVD boxset, that came with booklets, Lee kind of hinted or at least recognized how Dean and Barbara had some kind of "connection" between each. You have to consider that era and time how people of that time were not going to automatically feel comfortable with the idea of a legend like Dean and a lesser-known Black starlet like Barbara possibly having anything "going on". Here are a few links 1. Lipstick thread on the 2, I would start on page 5 go (read each page) to page 1 with Kenyata_1961, it's all there!
      2. Link are tell-tell gifs from tumblr.com and
      3. A photo of Dean with his buddies. Edward (with his pregnant wife), Behind Ed's wife is Barbara McNair (notice between Ed's wife and Dean, is a dark looking lady), Dean, without Jeanne-this was during the time Barbara's first appearance on his show, and Bill without his wife Camilia. It looks like in that photo they were hiding her:
