한 인간이, 창조주 하나님의 찬란한 영광을 마주하게 되면 어떻게 될까?
아브라함, 모세, 여호수아, 이사야, 다니엘과 같은 성경의 인물들이 하나님의 존전을 마주 했을 때, 그들에게서 가장 먼저 나온 반응은 ‘엎드림’이었다. 하나님의 말씀과 예수 그리스도를 증언했다는 이유로 유배의 형벌을 받아 밧모섬에 강제로 머물게 되었던 요한 역시, 성령에 감동되어 일곱 금 촛대 사이에 거니시는 예수 그리스도를 목격했을 때에 죽은 자와 같이 그의 발 앞에 엎드러졌다.
기독교인들에게 익숙한 단어중에 ‘경배’(Worship)라는 단어가 있다. 이 단어의 원어는 ‘샤카(shachah)’ 인데 이는 엎드려 절하다, 또는 예배하다, 경배하다라는 의미를 가지고 있다.
한낱 죄인인 우리는 거룩한 하나님의 영광 앞에 고개를 들 수도, 두 발을 딛고 설 수도 없다. 그 영광의 빛이 나를 비출 때 나의 모든 죄와 어둠이 드러나기 때문이다. 이러한 우리가 주님 앞에 담력을 얻어 나아가 경배할 수 있는 유일한 명분은, 바로 2000년 전 모든 인류의 죄를 담당하시고 십자가에서 죽으신 어린 양, 예수 그리스도의 보혈의 공로뿐이다. 예수께서 십자가 위에서 모든 것을 ‘다 이루신’ 순간에, 휘장이 위에서부터 아래로 찢어졌다.
그 길은 우리를 위하여 휘장 가운데로 열어 놓으신 새롭고, 산길이요 휘장은 곧 저의 육체니라 (히브리서 10:20)

What happens when a human being encounters the radiant glory of the Creator God?
When biblical figures such as Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Isaiah, and Daniel faced the presence of God, their immediate response was to fall prostrate. John, who had been exiled to the island of Patmos for testifying about God's word and Jesus Christ, also fell at His feet as though dead when he saw Jesus Christ walking among the seven golden lampstands in the Spirit.
Christians are familiar with the word 'worship'. The original Hebrew term for this word is 'shachah,' which means to bow down, worship, or prostrate oneself.
As mere sinners, we cannot lift our heads or stand on our feet before the holy glory of God. The light of His glory exposes all our sins and darkness. The only reason we can have the courage to approach and worship before the Lord is due to the merit of Jesus Christ, the Lamb who bore the sins of all humanity and died on the cross 2000 years ago. At the moment Jesus declared "It is finished" on the cross, the curtain of the temple was torn from top to bottom.
"By a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body" (Hebrews 10:20).
