Personally, I'm not entirely set on what it is I want to focus my energies on yet, however, a "saturated market" is not something that scares me. From my past, I know that when I set my mind towards success, I am able to reach it, so long as I put forth my best effort the whole way through. Really, I'm more afraid of my own potential to lose interest in the task at hand than a saturated market! XD Wonderful video, as always!
I like your outlook on this Roberto! I feel like finding the untapped "niche" or creating something new that eveyrone loves is so glamourized, when often times we just need better versions of what already exists or someone who simply does it differently. Like you said... be authentic and be yourself and couple that with resilience and patience and you can find success in a niche that is already established.
Market saturation has always been a "factor" that could discourage me from taking action on something. I've never really challenged it until now. Its actually a ridiculous idea. Thinking about any small business in my area. Gas stations, movie theatres, barber shops, fast food, retail stores. If what they are doing is providing value for people, nothing else matters. Example: Bob builds his coffee shop next to a large neighborhood, those neighbors are going to come to bob because of proximity. If bob's coffee is good, the neighbors are going to be loyal to bob and come back again and again. The other 10 coffee shops in the area won't matter.
Thanks for the encouragement dude! I feel this way alot lately but you're totally right. Just because I'm not the inventor of cake, doesn't mean I can't make recipe videos on how to make cake lolol
[waives hands in the air] I am a victim of bad story telling!!! Lol.. I've definitely fell into the lies that you can't get a "real" job doing art. For me that art is Graphic Design (GD), Handlettering, and the like. I only really began to understand the world of Design 2 years ago! Never realized how impactful it is or that I'd been doing this type of thing since I was a kid. Another lie was that I need to get a college degree to be successful in the field of GD. I've seen your videos and tons of testimonials from GOOD, successful, professionals and now know that's not true. Have also heard the saturated market piece, which was freaking me out recently....then I snapped out of it and said oh well! It's worth it to live out what I'm good at. People who are interested will be drawn to what I have to offer, and others won't. So be it. Looking forward to your video on this.
"You will get the results that you worked for" BOOM! EXCELLENT video. So many golden nuggets in here. "Every time you have a great idea and you don't pitch it, that's not an opportunity to close... while you're trying to make it perfect, somebody else made it good enough and they won."
Always such great advice in this series! I hope you keep these "Dear Entrepreneur" videos coming. We, and by we I mean human beings in general, have a tendency to get in the way of ourselves. The old saying "You are your own worst enemy" is so true when it comes to motivation, entrepreneurship, creativity and execution. This year I decided that I am going to be the "Yes" man, just not to the extent than Jim Carrey took it, in both business and personal life. I started a Vlog, I started walking, I just bought a longboard (I've never even skateboarded), and I started doing WordPress training videos (you want to talk about a saturated market!!). For those of you that watch this and roll your eyes or think yah, right easy for him to say - you are the prime example of the message in this video! Don't listen to the little voice in your head - because that voice got it's advice from all the nay-sayers out there! Get up, get moving and do something - the only person that make success happen is you. Thanks Roberto - you are an inspiration and a motivating presence for me.
Your making some excellent points, the market will never be perfect, the stars will never be in perfect alignment, you're starting to turn me on to a new way of looking at things, can't wait for the next video. Thanks Roberto.
Roberto....I got an MBA in Finance and Marketing at UCLA's Anderson School of Management years ago, and over the course of those two years in B-School, and years of undergrad before them, I have to say your lectures are the most enjoyable and informative of all the entrepreneurship and marketing lectures I've ever attended. I can only guess at why you are making this tremendous effort, and I wonder if you have support for it. But, whether you are a single practitioner with a killer work ethic or you have some kind of organization behind you, your work is outstanding and I thank you. My compliments!
+Earle Conklin currently I'm a solo practitioner with a tremendous enthusiasm fueling my work ethic. 😊 But I'm in the process of laying the foundation of a small organic team, a squad if you will. Eventually that will develop into something more. Likely I will document that process when the time comes.
self talk at 5:20 - omg that is my thought, but i wont regret it because i am taking action now, because YES the lessons learned and the journey in spite of rerouted me to an opportunity that maybe just as good or better than before. I was thinking initially that YT and my market (fitness/ health/ skincare) were saturated, but i see it now, and I thank you for this series. I met someone on IG in the market that i am in who came from similar background, training, interest, is doing it (what I have been passionate about since i was in high school) she has started her brand VERY recently, and it is exploding for her. We befriended each other and i was able to talk to her about her journey, and it was like the only thing holding me back was the START. i had already done all the research, but i wanted it to be perfect, in a time vacuum, with all the stars aligned and people positioned, etc. I was so encouraged by that Q&A time with her, and this series just takes it a step further. Between the two of you, i will now never understimate the power of the start, and the power of starting small. Thank you. I WILL be creating something awesome today!
Roberto you are so correct on this being first you never get the recognition and you assume all the risk. I so appreciate your passion about motivating content creators to keep them on point!
I believe in giving my business idea a serious try! I'm not gonna worry about doubt and lack of confidence. I gonna keep working at it until i win. I'm off the wall and asking her to dance. This is a Gr8 video for motivation.
Definitely Was Nervous about saturation. But I know that it is a lie, and some people will better resonate with me, rather than my contemporary, or visa versa... Thanks Roberto!
Definitely gonna get back in the game and on the grind to reach the dream. I feel like there are times when I was a victim of HORRIBLE story telling and I have fallen into the Saturated Market speech of discouragement. Then I realized there are no less than 6 billion on this earth... There's enough food on the table for everyone to eat. This video really gave me a boost of energy I REALLY APPRECIATE you sharing your thoughts, xoxo
All I can say is thank you for the pep talk. I've been a little discouraged because I was laid off 4 months ago and I'm a stay at home mom now. I know I have talent but I'm over thinking things and have been afraid to step out. I want to help my husband with our finances but I don't want to go back to doing something I hate... I'm even over thinking putting this out there but I guess I have to let go and start somewhere.
Reminder: Do a vlog on "victims of storytelling." Yes, I fell that for that BS, but now I'm more vigilant about what I tell myself & and what I believe in.
I wasn't worried about market saturation,..I was more concerned with "Am I good enough?"...and you said alot of good stuff here. At least I know that even when I create work that I'm not absolutely in love with, to post it anyway, to share it anyway. I can't thank you enough for your videos.
THANK YOU! Thank you for addressing this because this has been my problem for a decade. I finally made my mind up that I didn't give a damn about who did it before me because no one can do it like me. I too am a victim of 'negative storytelling' from my family, friends, surroundings, and myself. it wasn't until the last five years that I decided to come out of that and surround myself with 'positive storytellers' that wasn't afraid to encourage me so we all can succeed. whether that success was for my career, my family, or my growth. I can not wait to see your video regarding this. again, thank you and continue to #BeEncouraged
It's so true. Following your advice, I've gotten similar watch time and views with others who have 10x more subscribers. Just take the chance and create something awesome for yourself and others. Thanks Roberto!!
I've been second guessing myself about some stock graphics I made because I don't think they'll sell/they're not unique enough compared to what's already out there.... but you're so right, I'm just holding myself back based on fear and really.... nothing!! Thanks, Roberto!
Watching your videos really is what made me think that maybe, I could actually be a success on UA-cam. I have been thinking about getting into the UA-cam space for years but the over saturation made me think that I wasn't good enough to get going. My niche is tech and I love it but I am a high school drop out and have been told since then that I am not smart enough or good enough to really make something of myself. despite not having any formal education or degree, I now an assistant store manager in a huge retail chain, working my way up from being a maintenance associate. If I can accomplish that then I should be able to make it on UA-cam, at least I am trying to. I am just not trying to think of my competition and just doing videos about things that I love and hoping that as long as I keep doing what I'm doing I will get found by people who love the same things that I do.
I definitely agree that sympathies are a variable. If I find the three videos for the same tutorial, I will choose the one who has the most sympathetic voice/way of talking.
You are truly inspirational, i'm just starting my journey as a solopreneur. What draws me to your videos is the fact you can hold an articulate and deep conversation thats personal to your experience, so many people follow a pattern and a formula and are churning out very samey content video after video. I feel your videos are jam packed full of useful advice on different things ever single time, keep it up! Thank you! :) x
I had some doubt, but with proper SEO, Tagging, Titles, thumbnails, and descriptions like you have taught in many videos, I'm more convinced now that you can compete in any market. I still have doubts about gaming, but thankfully that's not my market of interest. Thanks for this vid :)
Also, can't wait to hear your advice on 'Marketing Yourself with No Time'. I am a single mom of 3 changing my career to frontend development. And I have always struggled with marketing BUT not this time. again, ty #BeEncouraged #ActivelyWaiting
Roberto, question for you: when I'm converting my videos for UA-cam I compress them a little bit before I upload them to youtube. Should I not compress them at all to keep them highest quality possible, and instead let UA-cam do the conversion/compression instead? Thanks man, I really appreciate you.
Thanks for sharing this.. I was about to write a script on the cons and pros of creating personal projects.. So the saturated market would make a great add-on for that topic :)
Roberto I am so happy I found you. This is a great video. What you say is true--so much about success is just having the courage to take the risk to be your best you, or my best me. And yes, a victim of bad storytelling. I was raised to believe that if I couldn't be best at something then it wasn't worth trying, because I'd always be second or third or fourth best, and that would be worthless. Thinking anything less than best is worthless I think scares the hell out of me and keeps me stuck Can you please do a talk on how victims of bad storytelling can overcome that narrative ??!! Thanks, man, you're great.
Bomb interview! I've struggled with he naysayers nobody uses designers anymore or photography is dying or why risk being a creative profession. It's something I'm passionate about put in work both inside and outside he classroom and ready to take the leap to see where things take me. Thank you so much for this video and giving us the push needed to get out there and "Create something Awesome"!👍🏽👍🏽👏🏾😊
+Raymond Du Preez if u have no time, u have no time.. no one in the world has "no time".. a challenge for all of us: how many phone calls can you make in 10 minutes?

Great vid man! Now, even though I'm aware that the idea behind these videos is that they look "unpolished" and "raw", I really think you should consider avoiding handheld shots if you're not gonna be outside moving around. All the unnecesary trembling is a little bit uncomfortable to watch for long periods of time. Again, awesome content!
+Roberto Blake thank you...I want to say out of all of your videos this is my favorite. I'm new to the UA-cam world and I've decided do what I love. I started my sports podcast, I wad getting discouraged but when I saw this, it rekindled my passion. Thank you so much. I want to say thanks again and maybe one day you can be like "Hey I know that guy." Keep them coming
Awesome video Roberto. Quick question, I'm having a hard time finding on the web anything about steps to running an independent business selling premade themes online or if this module is even considered profitable? Thank you for all of your videos, you've helped me in ways I could have never imagined. #CreateAwesome

What a great quote!

Such a good point. This is one of those things we sometimes tell ourselves to justify hesitation and procrastination
Ok! You've shifted my thinking. I haven't focused on getting discovered. I hadn't put words to that.

Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Roberto, was a good talk
I was actually thinking this very thing the other day, with Facebook as the example. Thanks for another great video mate!
Thanks for sharing this.. I was about to write a script on the cons and pros of creating personal projects..
So the saturated market would make a great add-on for that topic :)
Made me feel good about my choice to become a 3d moddeler in a saturated market. Thanks man and keep up the good word :D

Thanks for putting it into words. I think my life probably has been very heavily influenced, in a negative way, by storytelling.

Did you make vid about how to market yourself with little money? Somehow missed that. Anyone could link that vid? Thank you!
Great motivational rant
Dear Roberto,
I have a question for a future video. Which skills should we know or learn for job applications as graphic designer 2016? I notice a lot of programs and term I don't understand such as D3, GitHub, and other coding related software. Thanks a lots.
Best regards,

Again, awesome content!
I promise I just posted a status about this! Great minds think alike! I say find your niche, fill a need, add your personal touch, and go hard!
Good stuff
RIP Web TV....
Market saturation is NOT an excuse!
I am definitely a victim of bad story telling, but I am going to close that book and write my own story with my own rules.
2020 and I still occasionally worry about saturated markets lol
yesss
what video editing software do you use
+Professional Sutton premiere pro typically but all of these Dear Entrepreneur videos are edited on my phone using Adobe Premiere Clip Mobile App

By the way, I'm currently a Web Graphic Design student.
There are actually a ton of people who have done it successfully. Look into Theme Forest and Envato.
