Shiv Jayanti is celebrated with great fervor, and Belagavi is known for its unique traditions and celebrations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj this year it will be the 103rd year of the celebrations. This year the procession would be taken out on Wednesday, May 4.
It all began in the pre-independence era, in 1919 when the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebration was commenced. Initially, a procession was taken out in the bullock cart and for the first few years, was celebrated in their respective lanes.
