Quick question, with some of my own thoughts: If the crossbows name has the meaning “longed for child,” could it be that the Nameless Blacksmith Deity didn’t just find an apprentice in Eidas, but a child of his own? I’ve pondered on this for some time now watching your lore videos, and to me it just clicks. Eidas is mentioned but once in the game, in the item description for Aevelyn, and to say that it’s a gift for the birth of Eidas’s child is a bit of a leap of faith when there’s no supporting evidence that he had exterior relationships. However, going under the assumption that during his apprenticeship, the Namless Blacksmith Deity formed a paternal bond with Eidas. Viewing him not just as an apprentice, but his own child. And when Eidas was bestowed this great gift it was meant as “you are my longed for child,” a son he passed his life’s work on to.
Decent take.
The name of Avelyn makes sense with the GG being a haephestus figure. Maybe his Abnormalities extended so far as to make him unable to have children, and so made Eidas his child.
Note, the crystal ember shows that whilst Seath invested it, it must have been worked with by "the giant God's blacksmiths" at some point. The grammar here implying:
- Seath has at least taken the ember back, even if we don't know hw stole it, as it was with these blacksmiths at some point.
- "The giant God's blacksmiths" means the blacksmiths of the Giant God, that is, the blacksmiths who work under the Giant God. Thus, the two we meet, being the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo and Eidas, would fit this description. With the evidence of blacksmiths in the Archives, Eidas is the only living being there who could possibly be using the crystal ember, again showing Eidas was apprentice to the Nameless Blacksmith Deity.
Please do dark souls 3 lore
You guys should dip into that demons souls lore. Not many content creators ever really have. And it’s just as intense and full of lore as dark souls 1
@@TohGahr I get what ur saying. These guys are the best. But unfortunately dark souls 3 lore is too messy to parce out. Whoever did the lore for that game tried wayyy too hard to connect everything to everything without good reasons. It’s kinda hard to explain....but basically any lore searching u do in dark souls 3 connects to like 3 or 4 different DS1 /DS2 lore plots without explanation. Don’t get me wrong I love dark souls 3. But the lore is a mess
I think it’s an important thing to know about the NBD that in the original Japanese, the word used to describe Titanite Demons is different from the word that they use to describe the Chaos Demons. Using the word “demon” to describe Titanite Demons was a translator choice, but the word used is more like “mysterious creature”
Or perhaps he only makes bows. Blacksmith he is not, "weapon craftsmen" is his title.

i cannot get enough of these videos. starting with the lautrec one really opened my eyes to the deepest lore and am in absolute AWE. this video was fantastic as well highlighting something so deep but interesting. I also wanted to note the music you used at the end of the video is really good.
I just talked with lokey about the avelyn and the Japanese description of it is actually this. “Rapid-fire crossbow made by the hands of the weapons craftsman Ayrdice. Because of its extravagant design, it is closer to a work of art than the weapon it is said to be.”

Amazing work man, and it's not just some speculation, everything ties in very well. After so many years there's still new stuff to learn about the lore of this game thanks to your great work, what I loved the most was the details about the corpses in the archtree.

Hey Hawkshaw, I really hope you see this. Big fan of yours, love your interpretations on the lore. Although something has been brought to my attention that might mess with a previous point you've made.
Looking back at one of your videos, I remember you mentioned the idea of Gwyn not being aware that Gwyndolin was even alive, rather that Gwyn had left to fight the demons before his birth, the Guinevere had left during that time, and the Gwyndolin had then formed a faux relationship with his father through an illusory Guinevere proxy.
I always thought this idea was nice, and it wrapped up a variety of plot points nicely. Unfortunately, it might have ended up disproven. I created a reddit thread a while ago, can't remember for what reason, but I remember someone responding to me that artwork exists in-game disproving your claim. Spent like three days trying to find it until someone else finally did.
In Dark Souls III, the artwork for the piece of parchment paper the lies behind every spell icon shows a depiction of Gwyn, addressing his knights, with Gwyndolin standing at his side. Below I will link both the reddit thread as well as an imgur link of the exact artwork.

I had never even heard the name Eidas until now. It always amazes me how deep and detailed Dark Souls is, leaving the smallest hints to uncover the most sinister tales. It truly takes an analytical and creative mind like Hawkshaw to discover this information. Very well done!

The shield is showing the dark sun on the royal flower, and the two curly dark motives opposing each other represent the two primordial serpents. Occam's razor. Also the Avelyn seems related to the disappearing maidens in Seath Archives.

This channel is so good it's ruined older lore videos for me because these guys have done such a great job at deciphering the hidden story and take such appreciative care with every detail as deliberate, purposeful art.
