- Phil Johnson and Tim Floyd getting ejected by referee Jeb Hartness. Video from UTEP at East Carolina game, February 23, 2011. Officials called four technical fouls on UTEP coaching staff in a five-minute span, plus a fifth later in the game. Miners undergraduate assistant Greg Foster was forced to take over as head coach.
This is simply one of the most amazing videos I have ever seen. You can tell the assistant coach achieved cult status for a while.
Absolutely NO REASON for them to eject the assistant coach at 2:10. It was purely to "show" the coaches that the refs had the power. Referees should never interject themselves into a game like this.

Police officers can walk onto the court when beckoned by game officials or administration if a situation needs to be difused. Pull your head out.
This had to have been the worst officiated game in NCAA baskeball this season.
If you watched it, it was a complete disgrace to the NCAA to have those officials behave that way. 5 technicals and ECU went to the line 35 times in the 2nd half. That's crazy.
The ref waved the officer over.. he did not come onto the court until the official called him over. The coach was ejected and was going crazy on the court - time for the officer to get him out of there. Also, he apparently went crazy in the locker rooms after being kicked out.
that cop had no business stepping on the court.
no laws were broken, he had no jurisdiction. how many times have you ever seen a cop come onto a basketball court like that. never.
it's a game. the referees are in charge. if coach floyd refused to leave the court, call the game a forfeit.
at no point should that cop of come on the court and forcefully pushed the coach. what's next, a hard foul and the cop comes out and arrests the offending player for assault????

@bmcorc1 - One of the duties of a police officer is to keep the peace. If someone chooses to act like a bat out of hell, they must be dealt with and the officials beckoned the officer on the court when they could not control the coach. The officer had jurisdiction as he was a campus police officer, so that settles that. Yes, the referees are in charge, but as previously stated, if they need assistance to manage the game, they have law and order on their side in order to do so. You might want to read up on the law before making such insipid statements.

As soon as all the ref haters have a chance to put a shirt and whistle on and call a game, your comments will be very different. Coach had already received a technical foul and kept belligerently berating the referee. How does he expect to not get a second one and be ejected.
Agreed. Way too many losers on here. Then they have a problem with the coach being escorted off the court. Uh, yeah...coach gets tossed and still continues to verbally abuse the officials and refuses to leave the court. Time to get the police there and drag him out, like the big baby he is.
Oh he wanted it. He knew what was coming. The bad part is, look at the stats of this old game. For one team to shoot 30 more free throws, this was expected!
Some of the people commenting on this. Did not see any of the game So shut it. Tim Floyd asks his big men to attack down low at Morrow so they can get him in foul trouble. Morrow draws two well called charging calls. Floyd is mad because of the them not calling a foul rather a charge during the first half and was not happy about it through out that time which triggered him to go mad. This game was well officated the first T was because he was out of the coaching box. WALK THE PLANK FLOYD!
Why the referees let these guys stay on the court even this long is beyond me. College coaches have way too much power and referees need to put them in line, and the conferences need to back them up.

Yeah, coaches generally stay mild mannered when they are getting hosed by an official. Sorry, if the official throws two coaches out, he is the one that has security issues.

It's funny how people sit at there computers and say, "Oh you can't eject him for that." If you read Floyd's lips he tells the official administering the free throw, " Your the worst I have ever had." If you tell me that is not a personal insult, your ridiculous and shouldn't be watching these videos. When the cop came, Floyd always flaunts he has been in the NBA. The key word there is, "WAS"
You are a idiot. He wasn't ejected for that. He was tossed because kept cussing at the refs.

The police escort was absolutely ridiculous...College officials are the worst in any sport out there and everybody knows it.

Jed Hartness is the worst basketball in college basketball. He is the epitome of refs imposing their egos on the game. He is the doofus who called the Phantom "Jump Ball" that was nothing close to a jump ball, with 1.2 seconds left in the Houston-Texas A&M, with the Aggies then hitting a shot bringing on overtime. He managed to foul out almost every starter for the Cougars. This person has no business being in stripes anywhere near a basketball court.

The police officer was escorting him off the court. The coach was creating a disturbance, and the officer had every right to remove him using reasonable force. In this case soft hands and talking. If the coach wanted to fight, I am sure the Greenville Police would oblige.
Those ref's blew big time. Ecu shot 45 free throws, compared to utep that only shot 17 free throws. Those ref's were terrible. and even with that utep could've won the game, but they couldn't pull a run in the final minutes.
They had dinner reservations and couldn't be late.

@Alex - The police officer has authority to defuse the situation, even if that includes physically. Tim Floyd was out of control and the officer remained off the floor until one of the officials motioned him on to do his job. Coaches like Tim Floyd need to understand that they do not run the show and cannot do anything they want. If you act like an ass, you will be tied up like an ass and treated like one.
@@settinitstraight8332 You were correct....the official motioned to the officer to help remove the coach from the floor; I know...because I'm the guy in the grey sweater/grey slacks who also came out onto the floor. At that point, the coach is technically (no pun intended) trespassing, and I was trying to keep him from getting arrested!!?

@clempickens #1 Unless you are an official yourself, you are not qualified to determine whether an official is doing a "shitty" job at any level. #2 Respect is an issue that coaches have, not officials. How often do you see a coach yelling and screaming at an offial? About every game. How often do you see an offical yelling and screaming at a coach? Rarely, if ever. #3 Officials know the rules, coaches do not. it's that simple. Officials accept that and ignore coaches because of that.
