Hacks to sell more on Mercari (I Fixed My Sales with these)
I’ve been a mercari seller for something like four or five years now. It’s a straightforward enough platform… a lot like eBay.
Although, in the beginning, my sales were a fraction of what they are now.
I learned what works and what doesn’t through years of trial and error, countless failures, and over 10,000 listings.
The first thing I’ve learned to do when listing products is NEVER to price myself out of profit…. Always list a lot higher than you think you should.
For starters, this has a positive impact on buyer psychology. When a buyer sees a listing priced low, they subconsciously assume it’s not worth that much.
And on the contrary, when they see a listing price higher, they subconsciously assume it’s worth more.
So believe it or not one of the easiest ways to make more on Mercari is to just price your items higher.
Furthermore, you’ll notice that a lot of people like to make offers on this platform (so they feel like they’re getting a deal).
But if your item is already priced appropriately… you won’t make much profit… if any… if you decide to accept an offer.
So one of my most effective strategies, on this platform and others…. It’s to list high in anticipation of anticipating lower offers.
You can even take it a step further, if you want to, and raise your listing price when you receive an offer… then decline the offer… which will inevitably bring that person back to the offer page… where they’ll see a larger discrepancy their offer vs. the listing price.
A lot of times this will result in them, making an even higher follow up offer. Because for some reason, Macari doesn’t notify them erase the listing price.
Keep in mind this obviously comes with RISK that you won’t get another offer… but it’s just something I’ve had a lot of success with from time to time.
The next thing I’ve noticed that works really well is to offer free shipping on all your listings.
I’ve split tested this for years… and I can definitively tell you the listings with free shipping convert more (even if the buyers paying is the exact same - the listing price is just higher with free shipping…. It’s still works better in most cases.)
I’ve also come to realize Good customer service and good ratings help you convert more potential buyers too (especially on Mercari)
mercaris been around for a while, but newer people (just getting introduced the platform ) still tend to face trust issues when purchasing for the first time.
Just look at this Mercari scam video I dropped years ago and how many comments you got with newer buyers worried they were gonna get scammed)
so understand that on Mercari, especially….almost every buyer is going to check your ratings and the recent reviews you’ve gotten BEFORE they decide to purchase from you or not.
So make sure you’re keeping customers happy and keeping your ratings up. It matters.
I’d also recommend Testing the automatic Mercari price drop feature, and the recommended price feature.
The recommended price feature is not the be all end all… Trust me I price way higher than that all the time…. But it is a good indicator of other products that are very similar on the platform and what they recommend you list that at……
the automatic price drop feature will make offers to Likers slowly …..and slowly drop the price to simulate urgency and build value (like we covered in tip #1), but it’ll do this automatically FOR YOU.
You also want to Test more products (if you want to start selling a lot more Products on Mercari, you need to understand what cells well on the platform).
For example, I know, electronics, car parts, and power tools are three examples of things that sell well for me typically.
The only reason I know this is because I’ve listed lots of products on the platform. So take your best sellers from other platforms and test them here what typically sells well on eBay usually sells well here, but don’t stop there, continue to test different things… - Навчання та стиль

Mercari is dead to me. I used to sell a lot on Mercari and these days I get one or 2 sales a month. So I just let my items sit. MERC needs to do more with tools for sellers like other sites do. For ex. there are sites that will let you "bump" up your listings, or "update" that bumps it up. With Mercari I have delete listing and relist listing to get it to move up. They don't have a way to sell multiples. No way to "copy" or duplicate a listing.
Other sites are moving way ahead of Mercari.
I agree it’s being surpassed. I’m still selling decently here, but I don’t see it ever becoming anything to match Amazon, eBay, etc… even poshmark
the free shipping isn't a good idea, unless a person selects the filter "free shipping" Mercari doesn't show the items that offer free ship while searching for something. SO it makes it look like the item is more expensive.
You are correct, these UA-camrs are comical at best.
Yeah but when buyers see the item details the free shipping label pops up and I myself always lean towards buying items with free shipping even if the final price is the same.
yep, agreed. Also I have never noticed a difference in sell through rate, AAAAND if they are on the west coast, I end up making next to nothing. Not worth the risk
I have been surprised at how much success I’m having on Mercari vs EBay and Poshmark. Mainly for clothing and shoes.
I know right. I’ve always had success on mercari…I preach it but people always push back saying it sucks lol. Idk…doesn’t for me. Glad you’re crushing on there too! 👊
Before Covid I had great sales with the platform, but people list things way too low (ex. massive clothing lots for $4). After fees the platform isn't worth using because you are competing with that. In addition, items just don't get the views they used to. I've had better success with Etsy since I mostly deal in Mid-Century.

Pricing things high doesn’t work for me because Ive had my listings there forever because my items are to high. Once I lower and do offers then they will purchase.
List high, accumulate interest and likes, and make offers to simulate urgency, deals, and get sales 👍

Thanks! Mainly amazon and eBay and yeah you can dropship effectively here you just need to use reliable suppliers the right way and use images that don’t look too stock photo ish

I'm a seller on mercari and I have a quick question my friend how do you activate your coupons I get a lot of coupons but they expire because I don't know really how to activate them
You should be able to claim them and use them at checkout if you’re talking about buying. As for Seller coupons not really sure what you mean.

Something isn't right, I keep relisting and dropping the price, but nothing is selling. I dropped a price from $1k to $100 just see if it was because of the price and I guess not. App is too inconsistent
Try to list more products and try different products. Might just be the products you have up.
I’ve been selling on Mercari 8 months now and I average $1500-$2000 a month. A lot of it has been trial and error, but my most effective strategy is to price high and then discount bit by bit.
I haven’t offered free shipping yet, but I’m willing to test it for a few products.
Hoping to get another 1k a month at least on Mercari and supplement with other platforms.

I’m up to 1k a week now, but in the last week or 2 I’ve taken a hit with Mercari’s new policies.

I wouldn’t cancel just based on that. I’d always assume the best…and if something goes wrong mercari should protect you for the most part

The 3 examples I gave in this vid are a good place to start. Then start testing a bunch of different things...and double down on what you start to see success with.
Home decor category worked for me
For me nothing is selling. Bras used to be a good sell. Housewares too, but not anymore. It's like Mercari is out of business or on a LONGGGG vacation IMO.
To really make your sales grow. Don't be a niche seller. Train yourself to search for a variety of items. Over time you will develope a since of what sells. When sourcing for items, search when the last time it sold and how much. Anything that hasn't sold within a month I usually leave. You don't want a large inventory of slow movers. Also when purchasing make sure you are at least getting over 100 rate of return from your sales. That will assure that you have a high profit margin.

I would need to pay $13 out of my pocket to ship a 2 lbs jean.

Depends what my supplier is (I use the mercari shipping or my own depending) since I dropship
How many listings do you list everyday?
It varies, but probably around 50ish on average.
Do you suggest to allow offers on facebook marketplace too?

Hey Bryan. I got my first 1 star rating on Mercari. The buyer says they found it cheaper on Amazon. I would like to try to get it removed. My only other concern is the sold listing only shows stock photos, and the buyer also states I copied the photos from Amazon. Most of my listings include other photos besides just stock photos, but I have some listings with only stock photos. Anyway, I do have other photos for this item. I use Mercari mainly on my laptop, and Mercari is glitchy. Sometimes, it changes my titles, changes my category and even deletes my description. I guess it also deletes photos. Do you think it is okay to write Mercari about removing the rating when the buyer says I copied Amazon’s photos and only stock images are showing on the sold listing? I thought I could ask Mercari to remove it since the buyer is directing buyers to shop on Amazon instead of Mercari, and I could also tell Mercari about the glitches and missing photos. I am the kind of person who prefers these ratings to be removed, but I don’t want to lose my account because the sold listing is only showing stock images. This is a private label type item with no brand name on the item, and I did create my own description. I appreciate any advice. Hope you are having a good week so far.
I would just block the buyer. Leave it and continue to sell. It’ll be buried in 4 more reviews when it moves down your reviews and people don’t typically click to page 2

It wouldn't work imo b/c of the shipping in most cases...and you would need non stock photos.

Watch out! I've been selling there for more than 2 years. Mercari seems good but you get little control over selling your goods. Mercari will change your prices and accept orders on bundles offers that you did not accept in the first place. This then forces you to cancel orders and upsetting customers or accept the order with that price Mercari had changed it to. Try explaining that to a customer! The support has always been beyond awful. I don't think they really have support people. Any reply I've gotten acknowledges my problem then discusses something unrelated to solving the problem. Mostly the same scripted response. I could go on. Mercari has huge control issues while being very good at ignoring their sellers concerns.

Mercari is a joke. Can’t believe any of this. Just verifying your account is a hassle and Mercari customer service is only some form letter responses.
We do free shipping on Mercari....if a buyer claims they did not receive package, but you have a valid tracking number showing delivered, Mercari sides with buyer. Mercari only disputes buyer if you use Mercari shipping. Don’t waste your time on the clowns at Mercari folks
