    This was excellent! What a great tribute to the original. But...and I'm sorry to say this...the fluidity and physical power of the original is mindboggling. It was simply unbelievable, then and now. I'm sure the "new" dancers realize that and that's why they paid tribute to those who went before them...

    Tears of Joy come out of me everytime I see this. I got the privilege to learn with Frankie Manning in Barswingona and in Herräng in Sweeden in 2001. Thank you so much to all who keep this joy alive. Inlak´ech = I am another yourself.

    Incredible ... and such great timing - a year since Frankie95, and his headstone at Woodlawn was dedicated on Sunday May 30, 2010. Thank you for this gift.

    I'm not sure I have the words to express how phenomenal this video is! I get teary eyed watching it and just get a wave of excitement and happiness every time I watch it. Thank you for this, as a Lindy dancer of 10 years, I know what this video means to people. Truly amazing.

    In Memory of Frankie Manning. He was a great man and dancer. This is a great tribute. I was fortunate to see him (in person) several times! I remember him talking about these dances that he invented!! One story was how his troop was filmed once as part of a Marx Brothers film (A Day at the Races). That was a spur of the moment thing since his troop was in Hollywood when the film was shooting!

    Excellent performance, gave me chills, and made me proud of the lindy hop community. So much love, so much respect. And Frankie deserved every iota of it, he was a fountain of creativity and good will to us all. He would have been very, very pleased by this.

    You're right George. An oversight. Im sure it wasn't intentional. The MUSIC is the inspiration! Thank you for keeping this music alive. I enjoyed dancing to your orchestra in Central Park at Frankie 95. Keep up the good work :)
    And to the dancers, great tribute to Frankie and the Hellzapoppin dancers!

    Mr. Gee is right to give credit for the transcription which I believe was done by Walter Szymanski. However, his tin ear doesn't allow him to differentiate between the original recording used for this video, (not so scratchy) taken from the movie soundtrack not the recreation. There was no live band performance during this dance routine. Perhaps it's the latent guilt he feels for not properly crediting Walt for the work when it was performed nor paying him a fair stipend for the extra work.

    Someone mentioned how the girls in the original had "long powerful legs" but not here. Well of course the dancers cannot look identical, the ones in 1941 were women of African American background and they are generally taller and stronger, but I think dancers in this show are black, white, and Asian

    To all those wanting to see this type of dance return, forget about it. chicks are too fat nowadays. people were poor back in the 40s, didn't eat much, and the food they ate wasn't processed like this garbage we are eating today, try this dance with a so-called bbw.

    • @nightdiffy8874
      @nightdiffy8874 5 років тому

      even skinny or healthy people nowadays look different from skinny people in 1940s films. different physical lifestyles and different foods as you wrote. furthermore, people have so many distractions now..... this level of dancing skill requires focus. recently, there was a music class in india with students living in poverty..... every student was given a violin, so the class was a violin orchestra. some of the students became such excellent musicians that they received music scholarships....... all they had was their violins and plenty of time to practice..... so you are right that being poor can help increase skill.

    Wow. Sadly as with most thing these days, THE ORIGINAL back in the day WAS BEST. The copy/imitation PALES BY COMPARISON. Oh or Jazz and Lindy Hop to return. One day soon!

      That's wonderful! Sadly though I don't think dancers like these in Hellzapoppin video EXIST anymore. They had so much JOY and ENERGY like other folk like them in those times. It's a bygone era.

      that's just you, there's dancers with so much energy, just search for them, it was difficult to see those dancers also, just like this era.
